Man, this brings back memories form the late 1960's when we had an awesome set up for bot drag and road in a large warehouse in Fremont California. We were very fast, but, the NASA guys and JPL guys came up from Moffett field with their hand wound armatures from the space program rolled in......... well, they were so freaking fast you could hardly see them on the track and strip. WOW it was great fun and fond memories, I am glad I found your channel!!!
That was a great watch! Really well captured Trav and OMG, the cars are breathtaking, so beautifully detailed. You've got such a strong slot scene down in Melbourne, spoilt for choice :)
Nice to see some drag racing coverage. Very popular in the US. Awesome to see the young man doing so well. Not easy to win an event. They have some really big events in the states. Extremely competitive with big money purses. Thanks for bringing drag racing to the masses not many sites out there that show slotcar drag racing.
That was a fantastic video Travis. I’ve not watched a lot of drag racing events for slot cars and l gotta say it looks very inviting. How good was the young bloke too, awesome job mate 👌👍
Thank you sooooo much for covering some of the Nats!! You should have stayed for the AA FUNNY CARS as we set an Aussie record of just over a .4 of a second and over 100 LEGIT mph!! WOW!!! We would love to invite you down to another brand new track at ALM RACEWAY which is only a short 10 min drive from OUTLAW SLOTCARS IN Huntingdale when we organise one of our events!! ALM RACEWAY has a nice quick dragstrip also along with a “world renowned” circuit track that they purchased as circuit tragics may recognise
I too was very involved in slot car racing pack in the 60's and worked in a large shop with a 55' drag strip in SoCal. We had to run dry tires and cleaned the track every time with window cleaner and the tires with spot remover. What voltages do you run and what kinds of time for Top Fuel? We ran 36V (3 large car batteries) for TF and times in the .7 second. Maybe faster it's been a while. I rewound a lot of armatures back in the day. We used a real parachute sitting at the end to stop the cars. With 36V and .5 ohm armature we could be at 70 amps or 2400 watts into a 3/4" armature. I'm sure it was never 100% but was sure fun.
Very cool stuff! The track prep is as meticulous as in real drag racing. Of course there's no burnout box, but that's all handled 'by hand'! That 9 yo kid is quick!!😄👍👍👍
New sub mate ! This was fun to watch ! I was in the Brisbane scene in the early 90s and just loved it , the perfect hobby for an apprentice in the day ❤
great video, i cam remember racing slots over 20 years ago in South Australia. A suggestion for your video recording if i may, record in the highest frame rate possible aim for 48fps slow that down to 24fps in your editor, or try for 120fps slowed down to 30fps for some great footage
I didn't expect to see Ryan Corfield (photographer) in this video. I might have to look into slot car drags up here in Sydney. I volunteer at Sydney Dragway (how I know Ryan), so I get my full size drag fix there, and the ass fell out of the RC drags up here years ago. This I could do though, cause the cars will fit in the saddle bags on my bike. That was a fun video. The little guy's a legend, and cool as a cucumber. The scary thing is, at only 9, he's only going to get better as he gets older.
Did this in the 70's with 1/16 scale revell kits. Copied chassis in ali tube. Mura motors. The kit slicks grew on burn outs and flame outs. Have lots of pics a video.
Plucka you got a nice setup down there suspension business. Its come along way from the Ingleburn days. Some of old faces still racing i notice Troy and couple of Vic guys.
Wow this brought back some great memories. We used to go slot car racing many, many, many years ago, ( I’m a 74 year old grandmother now) there was a place in Sydney Rd Brunswick . Anybody remember it? By the way I just subscribed, I still find it thrilling to watch although having a car on the track would be better.
Hey Trav, as a relative noob, you should do a break down vid on classes / set ups and processes of drag racing , little RnD vid for those not accustomed to this trickery 😅
@@thatslotcarguyyes, it’s a great idea. I’m trying to figure out how the bloody hell those things stop? The run off looks very short and I’m assuming it’s the cut off from the power and the drag force of the motor brushes that allow such an immediate holt? I have no idea mate 😂😂😂 Cheers, great vid 🍻🍻🍻🇦🇺

Won’t be as big as OUTLAW Though
This is great! I better move to Australia, nothing like this here in Northern Sweden 😁
I'm glad I have seen some real live Top Fuel Dragster races at Sydney Dragway. I definitely prefer circuit slot car racing to these drag races.
