It's now more than ten years since this and the Dizzy LP were uploaded. And I just finally got the joke that all of Gabe's fake names are making fun of Yahtz's name being "Yahtzee".
DigitalZ I said the stupidest thing specifically about him drowning, not about the game in its entirety. I'll agree there's loads of stupider things in this game than that. :P
Ah, joy! I had some recollection of playing an Alex Kidd game for the Sega Master System with dialogue and thought puzzles in a large Asian building (I remembered it as a school for various reasons, but apparently it was just a bloody big yashiki). Was never able to confirm just what the heck I had played later on though. I bought all the available Alex Kidd ports I saw, then was really disappointed and confused to see they were just actioney platformers. So your explanation that this title was kind of a weird production-anomaly in the series makes a lot of sense now. Anyway, I'm thrilled that I stumbled upon this video. Another puzzle piece of my blurry gaming history has been set in place. (Wish I could take another stab at this one. If only they they were more comprehensive in making older games officially available to play again. I'm a total dummy when it comes to emulation.)
Damnit, I'm so glad to hear Yahtzee and Gabe again, after their short-lived podcast series. Easily the most entertaining audio duo I can think of, Above Yogscast for sure
I remember playing this game as a kid. It was very frustrating not being able to figure out how to get out of the mansion/apartment. Years later when the internet was available, I looked up a walk through... You've got to be kidding me!! How was I suppose to figure any of this stuff out? Pray 100 times?? Give me a break!
***** right but in north america all the commercials and the Sayga genesis itself said SAYGA whenever it booted up, so did it say SeeGA in every other english speaking country? why would they localize it differetly?
guys in the attic where it said Sega is no.1 you have to get a cloth from the same place you get the piece of paper in the wast basket you can get a cloth you have to use that to clean the sine that said Sega is no.1 but no this is not relevant in any way to completing the game...
4:24 I'm sorry but a 20-inch Pepperoni pizza, Alex Kidd? The base must be thin as paper because there's no way you are eating that shit without some help otherwise!
Thanks for the inspirational and well informed thoughts and arguments here! As an "XY" kind of girl I really found that very soothing and heartwarming. :D
As the first to point out the now legendary Gabriel's Gaffe, I'm so proud that the majority of the comments on this video circulate around the proper pronunciation of 'Sega'. Let there be no doubt: open wide and SAY GAH.
I am quite glad Gabe and Ben has picked up doing the occasional Let's Play of an old annoying game. There are only a couple of Let's Players I enjoy watching. And Gaben is particularly entertaining.
Wait, light travels from the Sun to the Earth in 5 seconds? It most certainly does not. It takes 500 seconds or around 8 minutes and 20 seconds for it to reach us.
I watched this whole thing, even though it means I probably won't get a seat on the shuttle to the mall (which is very important to me). And I don't care. I LOVE YAHTZEE! XD
I'd like Gabe to do Fantasy Zone when it is his turn. Fun fact; Fantasy Zone was developed by Sunsoft, formerly Sun Electronics, based on their 1981 game Funky Fish. Some believe Space Harrier is part of the Fantasy Zone series since the voice at the beginning says "Welcome to the Fantasy Zone!" This makes Space Harrier the Wolfenstein 3D to Fantasy Zone's Castle Wolfenstein, I guess. But I find the connection tenuous.
i remember playing this by mistake i bought all the other alex kidds and then saw this thinking "hmm? i havent played this one before" Hahahahaa...hooo what mistake...
So yatzhee keeps his ladders in the attic? Then how does he get into his attic to get the ladder to get into the attic to get the ladder... now thats thinking with ladders!
The door is surely a metaphor for the human condition. We are constantly walking in and out, meandering around what it actually means to be human. Or some shit like that.
Oh man, I almost forgot about the going in and out of doors in Trilby's Notes But that I've remembered... Welp hope I didn't actually need to be able to sleep for anything.
DigitalZ Go watch a zero punctuation video. Right at the start it will say The Escapist but then the E in Escapist gets rubbed out and someone draws an E there before someone laughs. One of their laughs sounded like it
Thank you for agreeing that Moon is a good movie. I love Clint Mansell's musical scores and I felt like, for such a minimalist budget, the set design and effects were great. I disagree about Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I will concede that I was not too impressed with Mr. Rockwell in that particular role, but what the hey we all make mistakes. I just like the movie because I love the book...and Zooey Deschannel, and Malcom McDowell to a lesser extent.
Ive watched many review videos on here... Id say short of the master himself (avgn) you two are among the more entertaining... I remember never getting much done in this one... I got it expecting it to follow on from the Miracle world title, which had driven me insane with the unfinishable last room... never the less its interesting to see this in more...
omg i loved this game as a kid i owned this miricle world shinobi world and enchanted castle, i guess my parents were a big fan of alex the kidd as they bought all my games at that yough age with out me asking for them
I was horribly disappointed when I picked up this game as a kid after finally beating miracle world. Never made it past anything, at all. It was really deceptively marketed also, nowhere did it clearly say it was different to miracle world.
The games in the past seem to be odd indeed. And im not saying that because of the plot or anything but most of them seem to be practically unbeatable. Guess i am glad to be young. One of my very first games was Monkey Island 4. I barely understood english back then, but somehow managed to beat the first part (mostly).
This is an old video and it's already been said before, probably, but He's using an emulator named "Fusion" and it's free like he said. It's basically an all-in-one SEGA console emulator
It’s 2020, and I’m still rewatching these to help me sleep.
Same dude
Hello from the glorious future year of 2021
Lmao, just drift off to sleep last night while rewatching the quake 2 one.
2023, same
Ditto
It's now more than ten years since this and the Dizzy LP were uploaded.
And I just finally got the joke that all of Gabe's fake names are making fun of Yahtz's name being "Yahtzee".
I thought he was just being stupid. That’s actually hilarious
Holy shit he was ahead of his time good work Gabe
Wtf
12 years and I only just got that reading your comment.
You're a damn genius.
19:47
Yahtzee: "You are shit at games, admit it."
Gabe: "I am not shit at games! Up yours!"
Ah, back when the arguments were so lighthearted.
17:02 "There's a water jar here, with a cloth inside." *Yes* *No*
wot?
The stupidest thing about Alex Kidd apparently "drowning" in water is that he was perfectly capable of swimming in Miracle World!
If that's the stupidest thing, then you have not delved deep enough.
DigitalZ I said the stupidest thing specifically about him drowning, not about the game in its entirety. I'll agree there's loads of stupider things in this game than that. :P
God how has it been SIX YEARS. I was still at SCHOOL when this came out
Another six….
In the original game Anmitsu Hime, Anmitsu (a tomboyish girl based on a manga/anime) wants to get to a cake shop rather than a video arcade.
That sounds...great.
That explains all the hotdog fellatio
That makes more sense considering Alex wouldn't get to enjoy the arcade very long if he made it there at 4:59 pm.
Blimey. Getting to the arcade doesn't seem to be worth the effort when stepping out the door draws the attention of a legion of ninjas.
It took me childhood YEARS to find all the pieces of that fucking map! Its kinda sad to see it being put together with so little ceremony

I'll check it out, thanks.
I want to thumb-up the video description.
My name is Alex Kidd and this is my favourite video on the citadel.
Damnit, I'm so glad to hear Yahtzee and Gabe again, after their short-lived podcast series.
Easily the most entertaining audio duo I can think of, Above Yogscast for sure

I might remember it all wrong, but i had this game as a kid. I thought the cloth was for wiping the smudge on the "sega is no 1" sign.
Gabriel said "See-Ga"
whats next? people calling nintendos mascot "Mary-o?"
You mean you don't?
*****
right but in north america all the commercials and the Sayga genesis itself said SAYGA whenever it booted up, so did it say SeeGA in every other english speaking country? why would they localize it differetly?
Yeah, it's Sega in EU and in Japan (セガ, which is pronounced seh-ga)
He's an aussie, and the adverts they had there pronounce it SeeGa
Us brits say Sayga
Thanks for the upload! I logged hours upon hours into this game when I was a kid and was never able to beat. Complete mind fuck!
guys in the attic where it said Sega is no.1 you have to get a cloth from the same place you get the piece of paper in the wast basket you can get a cloth you have to use that to clean the sine that said Sega is no.1 but no this is not relevant in any way to completing the game...

Please never stop doing these.
There's a Bob Seger arcade!?
"It takes a long amount of time to go through doors" Just ask Resident Evil.
It was awesome when my daddies didn't fight :( Now they don't make videos with each other anymore :(
More like someone get this man a medal. That etiquette pass thing actually seems like a really fucking good idea.
I can't believe this is three years old.
Make that four!
I think you guys meant a FIVE
Iroquois Pliskin WHERE IS MY LIFE GOING
I can’t believe this is EIGHT years old.
THIS IS AWESOME AND UNAWESOM AT THE SAME TIME! MY CAPS LOCK BUTTON IS BROKEN!
As the first to point out the now legendary Gabriel's Gaffe, I'm so proud that the majority of the comments on this video circulate around the proper pronunciation of 'Sega'. Let there be no doubt: open wide and SAY GAH.
Did Yahtzee seriously just call "Rock Paper Scissors" "Paper Scissors Stone?"
goddamn I love me some gabe
Pleeeease what piece of music is the clip right at the right from? It sounds like my childhood but I can't figure it out.
Darude; Sandstorm
Fun stuff as always yahtzee
I am quite glad Gabe and Ben has picked up doing the occasional Let's Play of an old annoying game.
There are only a couple of Let's Players I enjoy watching.
And Gaben is particularly entertaining.
Is that Back To The Future at the end?
you can dial 911 on the castle telephone too ^_^
I started watching QI a few weeks ago it is one of the most amusing shows I've ever seen.
I used to play Alex the Kidd in Miracle World on my old Master System too! Oh, how the years have passed us by. lol
and I like how people without lives *you* have to choose sides in an argument without thinking
The washcloth in the big jar is to wipe off the Sega is no.1 logo in the "useless" room.
and what comes of that?
+Zangamarth Reality.
+Joseph Cummins daaaaaaaaaamn
Wait, light travels from the Sun to the Earth in 5 seconds? It most certainly does not. It takes 500 seconds or around 8 minutes and 20 seconds for it to reach us.

Would disagree with you...
***** you are awesome for admitting that you are wrong. No sarcasm. Hard to find ppl with dignity
If you keep your ladders up the attic how do you get up there.
Music at end? (i know its back to the future, just which version)
Awesome. Now I'm kinda glad I didn't own this one though. Any other Master System games planned?
Short-lived? They're back on the horse man. They posted Show & Tell Returns only shortly before these Let's Plays.
I need to get my french bread out of the freezer so I can wake up the bus driver.
Where were the first OLIMPIC games held? Well maybe IN BLOODY OLIMPIA
Not generally recognized because they weren't exactly international or documented.
I watched this whole thing, even though it means I probably won't get a seat on the shuttle to the mall (which is very important to me).
And I don't care.
I LOVE YAHTZEE! XD

I know you've said everything you can about Silent Hill 2, but a Let's Play of that would be entertaining and insightful.
The gag about gender reassignment hits different these days
By the way, I could never find out where the last piece of the map was. Whichever one that might be...
i remember playing this by mistake
i bought all the other alex kidds and then saw this thinking "hmm? i havent played this one before" Hahahahaa...hooo what mistake...
So yatzhee keeps his ladders in the attic? Then how does he get into his attic to get the ladder to get into the attic to get the ladder... now thats thinking with ladders!
I guess I'm going to stay up even longer tonight.
I only ever played super fantasy zone but I loved it so much. When they added the ship in sonic racer I was more than a little elated
You two should do this more often!
The door is surely a metaphor for the human condition. We are constantly walking in and out, meandering around what it actually means to be human. Or some shit like that.
Wait, Alex has to assemble 8 pages to progress? Hmmm sounds like certain indie horror game developers took notes from this game...
So... What free program did Garbriel use to compile the footage, again?
It appears that every two screens the character walks through advances the in-game clock by five minutes
Another LP from Yahtzee! :D I can't wait for part 2.
"Which one's Rockwell?"
"I Don't know..."
Lulz.
Oh man, I almost forgot about the going in and out of doors in Trilby's Notes
But that I've remembered... Welp hope I didn't actually need to be able to sleep for anything.
I understand what is going on, perfectly.
I understand them perfectly
MASTER SYSTEM FOR THE WIN!!!!!!
Oh, yey. A video on his own channel.
So that's the guy that does the laugh when the E in Escapist changes to a drawn one?
What? Yahtzee, or Gabe?
Neither.
Yahtzee makes videos on the escapist, called Zero Punctuation.
DigitalZ Go watch a zero punctuation video. Right at the start it will say The Escapist but then the E in Escapist gets rubbed out and someone draws an E there before someone laughs. One of their laughs sounded like it
SuperSpawnofhell I know what you're talking about, I'm just telling you it isnt them
DigitalZ I know. I'm just clarifying what I mean. Make it more clear.
i love these LP's
Thank you for agreeing that Moon is a good movie. I love Clint Mansell's musical scores and I felt like, for such a minimalist budget, the set design and effects were great. Dialing numbers.... What about GTA 4?
I came for the yahtzee, i stayed for the yahtzee and gabriel too
what was that music at the end? I know that music!
Timothy Creighton | Great scott.
As RarefoilB implied it's a midi(?) version of the Back to the Future theme.
I liked the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy movie...
Good old Yahtzee, never disappoints :-D
Ive watched many review videos on here... Id say short of the master himself (avgn) you two are among the more entertaining... I remember never getting much done in this one... For a video primarily composed of people speaking in English I find it remarkable that there are so many viewers that can't speak English.
omg i loved this game as a kid i owned this miricle world shinobi world and enchanted castle, i guess my parents were a big fan of alex the kidd as they bought all my games at that yough age with out me asking for them
this one and shinobi world were my favorite sega genisis games i used to play them all the time
Why is the timer fucked up?
spoken like a true captain oblivious, one who has yet to grasp how wording can affect what you say
What's Fantasy Zone?! A CLASSIC, that's what! ;D
Hey! The ROM for this game was dumped from my cart. *Awwww* now I get all super nostalgic.
i'll just take that little comment out of context 'tentacles can pulsate in what i would classify as a gobbling motion'
It's funny they mention Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy considering Yahtzee (imo) sounds like Marvin.
god dammit how did i miss this
Yahtzee sounds a lot older than he looks. I just noticed it now considering he's speaking at a slower pace than what he's known for.
Love thsi series :)
more of these please :-)
There is already another he released a few weeks ago for Dizzy. Check out his channel.
Omg! THAT WAS MY CHILDHOOD TOO
You know you owned this game and spend way too much time playing it when you rage watching the ninja's kill you.
Goddamn....
Tbf, everyone watches those Podcasts for Karl Pilkington (Legend)
Curious fact: This game starred a princess as it's main character in Japan.
what the O: Yatzee doing a let's play? amazing, will there be more? :)
this is one of the two friends he talks about
It's called Anmitsu Hime Based on the anime of the same name.
I was horribly disappointed when I picked up this game as a kid after finally beating miracle world. Never made it past anything, at all. It was really deceptively marketed also, nowhere did it clearly say it was different to miracle world.
Awe/ I love Let's Plays, too.
