    Kevin....brilliant my friend! 👌 Your a very creative carver 👏 how do you decide what to carve next? Do you look in books to see what comes to mind? Thank you 👍

      Thank you. My mind is always busy. I’m usually thinking about the next carving while I’m working on one

      Thanks Glen, it was folklore where I know of it from. I have to stop doing figures with beards. Too many people comment they look like Doug. Lol

      @@KevinCoates98 Ahahahah.
      Yeah anyone with a long beard and hair *could* look like Doug, I suppose. But keep doing the bearded figures, they look great!! Your channel should have a lot more support.

    Wow, amazing work you done. It's ghost month from now on Chinese calendar. What a suitable object you created, and it really caught my eyes. Thank you so much.

    You do fantastic pieces. It would be great if you could do some commentary in your videos to help beginners like me understand the concepts better.

      Thanks Pete, I’m not much talking. That’s why I don’t do it in the videos. I will try and add text in some parts and see if that helps any

    Hi Kevin, have you ever used knives for the sculpture of the Swedish company MORA? As for your sculpture, as usual, I am full of admiration. Regards!!

    • @KevinCoates98
      @KevinCoates98  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you sir. All I ever use is what you see me use in the videos. I’m sure there are lots of great carving knives out there though. I’m quite content with my old fish knives

    Thanks again Kevin, I continue to pick up some useful information from your videos. I see that the bigger blade roughing knife lets you get further away from your work (no pun intended) and the thickness of the blade has to be easier on the thumb. I make my own knives, so a heavier roughing knife will be next. Hope your Christmas was good.

      I’m glad the videos help in some way. These bigger knives are great. I have a Dexter knife someone gave me awhile back. The blade is probably.10” or close to it. I’m going to convert it into another carving knife hopefully. I hope to get it on video. A few days in Christmas was a good little break. Now it’s time to get back at it again. Happy New Year to you

    don't know how you do it to see that image in that piece of wood but it sure is fascinating to watch. thanks

    • @KevinCoates98
      @KevinCoates98  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really, I don’t look at a piece of wood and see something in it. I just get a picture of what I want to carve in my mind and go from that. Thanks

    Can you please start putting the dimensions of the wood in the description? It would really help out a bunch!

    Kevin, that knife you use is somewhat reminiscent of an open razor, I know you told us it was a boning knife cut down, just had a thought, could you try a razor as they are so sharp or would the steel be too brittle? Just thinking out loud maybe you already tried that, anyway another good video and so different, Regards from John in England.

    • @KevinCoates98
      @KevinCoates98  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John, years ago I bought a knife from a fellow in Ontario. He used a straight razor for his knives. That was the reason I ordered it. When the time came for me to get mine the old razors were very hard to find so he had to make it from an industrial hacksaw blade. That’s as close as I got to carving with a straight razor

      @johngoodall7097 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevin thanks for the reply, I thought you might have tried the razor, but your results speak for themselves, with only two knives you created another fine carving which we all appreciate I feel, good one, see you on the next one.
