The point is Dune deserves and will probably get all the technical awards because technically speaking it's close to flawless. The acting awards never go to films like this even LOTR won none of those same for the writing awards because the perceived quality of films that focus on a smaller cast in the real world is much higher than huge fantasy / science fiction with dozens of main characters. The only non technical awards I could see it winning would be Director for Denis Villeneuve.
Denis has gotten closer because he held as close to the novel as possible. In one interview, Herbert stated (paraphrased) that he wanted to see what a "Nature Centric" civilization would look like rather than a "Thing Centric". Important in this is that it is NOT "Technology absent". Rather, the technology that has developed took a different path.
In the book the harvester was lost because the Harkonnens sabotaged the Carryall, not because of a malfunction. There were also several Fremen visiting the Spice sands on the Harvester who didn't get on the Ornithopters and Paul correctly guessed who they were.
In the book the carryall's crew was overpowered and the carryall never showed up, and as part of a plan within a plan, the Harkonnens used the carryall to transport lasguns. In the book, the fear of the lasgun is one of the reasons that Leto doesn't activate his shield in time and is able to be hit by the dart. Denis' adaptation is full of little changes like this where a slight change to one scene ties in to a slight change in a different scene such that they both kind of 'zero out' and leave us with a tighter story with fewer moving parts. In the book, how do we find out what happened to the carryall? It comes up during the famous "dinner scene" - which also was cut.

Personally, I really liked CODA, I Drive My Car and Belfast.
@@turinturambar501 Honestly I think awards are quite flawed these days you can't compare Dune and Indie films that cost a quarter of the price to make and rely on acting and writing only because they don't have the budget and are not trying to do that (almost all the other films I loved this year fall in that category).
Best VSX

Best Film Editing
Best Cinematography
Best Director
This was the best movie I’ve seen in years! I hope it wins some Oscars!
The spice harvester sequence is the jewel in the crown of this movie!
It really is unbelievable that Denis did not get nominated for best director. A real crying shame.
Love this movie❤🔥
I am shocked Denis did not get a best Director nomination. Thats a shame.
Why Paul Thomas Anderson got nominated over Denis? It's a disgrace
i can't get this movie out of my mind, it's such a pity i couldn't watch it in theaters...
Oscar voters: “Omg guys, what if we nominate Dune for 10 awards, but we DONT nominate Villeneuve”
“Omg let’s do it”
This is one of the best! Love the cast too
Such a beautiful movie
Greig Fraser’s work in this movie was marvelous! Can’t wait for what he has in store for The Batman
Still can't believe Denis did not get nomination for direction
Same for Blade Runner 2049
10 nominations more than well deserved 👏👏
Denis has gotten closer because he held as close to the novel as possible.
In one interview, Herbert stated (paraphrased) that he wanted to see what a "Nature Centric" civilization would look like rather than a "Thing Centric".
Important in this is that it is NOT "Technology absent". Rather, the technology that has developed took a different path.
Saw it last night finally in a little rep theatre far on the other side of town. A magnificent achievement and profound tonic.
And we're all the better off, because of this masterpiece!!! Kudos to all!!!!!!
This movie will go down as one of the greatest spectacles of all time.
Even though this is only presenting half of the first book, they left a lot out. Blessed be the Maker and His passing.
The whole movie is amazing but the sandcrawler scene has stuck with me the most. Its just masterclass
Wow never expected this
This movie was a masterpiece, and Denis didn’t get a nod for best director?? How does that even happen??
Denis est très charmant
Denis Villeneuve seems like such an awesome guy. Still 🤬 about his snub. YES, SNUB.
Yes!
I lost faith in Academy due to Hans Zimmer lost his Oscar for Interstellar.I hope Academy will correct that blunder by giving a Oscar to Music of Dune.
He won!
This film deserve Oscar🎥🏆
