If you pay attention the strumming pattern is shown on the bottom. It's the Ds and Us. The D is a down stroke and the U is an up stroke. I do hear some lead guitar in the sample though which maybe what you are hearing. It sounds like the lead is just picking the chords as an arpeggio rather than strumming

How do you do the strumming pattern? I don't know how he is able to have 2 different sound despite doing the same thing
Some times you only hit the top few strings softly and sometimes you hit them all a bit harder
