    Nice video. Your pool/hot tub are almost the same as my sons with the same type of leak. He used Fix-a-Leak about a month ago. It worked!! I think he bought a larger size than needed and applied it twice. Thanks so much for this great video.

    I use this once a year. It works each time, but I do end up using each year. I've had to use 2 bottles in a season before too.

    Has the repair held up after all these years?

    Pools are a BIG headache. The second worse thing I have done in my life is put in a pool, first was my first marriage!

      Mar 12, 2017 - It held up pretty well, but did seem to start leaking again, at a lower rate. I did a 2nd treatment of the Fix-a-leak about 6 months after the first treatment, and I don't think I have any more leak, or at least it's so small as to be unnoticeable. I think the bottle of Fix-A-Leak cost me about $15 from Amazon. Two treatments for a total of $30. www.amazon.com/Fix-Leak-Pool-Sealer/dp/B003J43920/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1489391279&sr=8-2&keywords=fix-a-leak

    My hot looks liken yours and I have a leak I just a t don't know which valve to by pass filter. Please help

      If your pool is older like mine, you may not have bypass capability and will have to remove the filter grids before using this product, or else you will quickly clog up the grids with it. Simple to pull the grids. I do that every time I clean and recharge my filter with fresh DE.

    Hi, I bought this product and tried it in a very similar spa as yours. The water level stayed the same after the first 24 hours, then I drained all the water to let it sit dry for 7 days for it to cure. I filled it up again yesterday and the leak is back. In your video it seems you didn't drain the spa, is that right? I am thinking of running it again without draining it and see if it changes anything. I still have my hopes up for this product. Thanks in advance and great video overall!

    How do you bypass the filter

    • @melrobinson6919
      @melrobinson6919 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have an older pool as I do without bypass capability, you have to remove the filter grids before using this product or else you will quickly plug up the grids with this product. I just received my order for a large bottle of this stop leak as I am going to try it for the spa section of my pool/spa that has a small, but noticeable leak. I found the leak in one of the spa jets with a leak detection product.

    I came across your video and comments a few days after successfully fixing a 1 drip per second leak in my free standing hot tub just 2 days ago. I see that you are periodically adding the product, just wondering what frequency you have to add the product? Once every 6mo? Once a year? My leak is in a jet, so it is easy to seal mine. I used a turkey baster and squirted it in the jet. Letting gravity suspend the product in the jet undisturbed for 48 hrs.

    Thanks for the recommendation. I just purchased a bottle off of Amazon. I have question. I have a DE filter. The bottle says to remove DE cartridges before using. Did you also do that too?

    • @aglaes62
      @aglaes62  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I put the multi-port valve on my DE filter in bypass position while recirculating the Fix-a-Leak in the spa.

      Thanks for getting back me! That seems like a great idea. I have a leak in my hot tub too. Errr... I have a very power hydroponic sub pump that I'm planning to drop in and use to circulate the fix-a-leak. Do you think that will work? I'm trying to avoid pulling the cartridges out of filter since I don't have a bypass value.

    • @aglaes62
      @aglaes62  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure what your situation is, but my leak is in the piping system. I have to circulate the fix-a-leak through the piping system. I don't think just circulating the water in the hot tub with a separate submersible pump will do much other than mix it with the water.

    • @aglaes62
      @aglaes62  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My DE filter has a 6-way valve on it and one of the positions allows me to bypass the filter, so I just bypassed it while recirculating. when I was done recirculating I put the 6 position valve in the "waste" position and just pumped all of it to the drain.

    Hey there, just checking in to see how your pool is a few years later, lol. Did the leak ever come back? The Fix-A-Leak site info suggests it closes things for 1 to 2 years. Has it stood the test of time?

    • @aglaes62
      @aglaes62  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The leak did come back. I have repeated the Fix-a-leak treatments a couple of times and each time it seems to work, however within a few months it's noticeably leaking again. I guess I'll continue the periodic treatments for a while until I decide what to do for a more permanent fix.

    I have a leak too. I think it's the spa because I've been circulated the pool only for the last day and have lost any water. I really dont want to deal with a leak detection company.

    Awesome video. I have a large spa which does not hold water. Had the leak detection guys come in and test all plumbing, jets, etc. Water goes down all the way to the Drain Catch Can (dunno what's it called) if the SPA stops running and goes below water level in the pool. If SPA mode is running, i don't see any loss of water. I have 2 drains in my SPA which my leak detection guy says is connected to each other and it exits out of a T junction and an elbow. He recommended that I dig up the entire floor of the SPA, inspect the plumbing underneath and get the spa resurfaced. Before I do this huge $$$ expenditure, i wanted to know if this Fix A Leak works on PVC pipes embedded under the SPA? What did it actually fix, the concrete SPA surface itself or a pipe that was leaking?

    • @aglaes62
      @aglaes62  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can only speculate where my leak was, but I suspected it was in the PVC pipes that connect to the spa jets in the sidewall of the spa. That piping is embedded in the concrete wall of the spa, so I could not actually see the source of the leak. As I said in the video, I saw the water escaping from the concrete foundation on either side of the spa.
      I suspect I had a small leak develop in one of the PVC glue joints in the spa jet piping inside the concrete and the water that was leaking out found a path through the concrete, probably on the outside of the PVC pipe until it came to the spot where the pipe went into the concrete and that's where I saw the water escaping. If this is correct, then the leak was probably a small crack or crevice in the PVC pipe and the Fix-a-Leak was able to plug it.
      In your case, if the leak is in the drain piping, the Fix-a-Leak may not work, with the pump running. In my case the leak was on the discharge side of the pump and the pump was used to "push" the Fix-a-Leak through the crack (leak) and it eventually plugged off. If the leak is in the suction side of the pump, then with the pump running, the suction side is under vacuum and there is nothing to force the water out the leak (this would explain why you don't notice in loss of water when the pump is running). What you may want to try is to isolate your spa from the pool, turn on the pump to recirc the water, add the Fix-a-Leak and let it get mixed and dispersed by recirculating for a few minutes, then turn off the pump and let it sit. As the water leaks out through your leak, the Fix-a-Leak may plug off the leak.

    • @aglaes62
      @aglaes62  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the leak is in the suction side of the pump it may be more difficult to get the fix-a-leak to work because when the pump is running, the suction line basically has little to no pressure and it won't push the fix-a-leak solution through the leak and plug. You might try getting the fix-a-leak well mixed in your spa, then turn the pump off and just let it sit and the water leaking out, with the fix-a-leak should start to work on the leak.
      My leak has come back and I have to repeat the treatment every 3-6 months to manage it.
