      He is right & if you get a tight spot and struggle for some reason ( economy) people will automatically assume a few negative things,Your gambling, drinking,or some other thing you never do.
      And it is icey cold full of snow and ice. And very hard to create bonds outside your respective "people" you come from.

    We moved to the Reno area 3 years ago and it was the best decision we have ever made. Of course we are outdoorsy and like road trips so Reno an outdoorsy paradise with Tahoe next door and Reno is centrally located on the west coast so its a great jumping off point for anything on the west coast.

      Glad it worked-out for you guys. We lived almost a year in d'Andrea, a beautiful location in Sparks; walk to Safeway, low HOA. Food was not always as fresh, maybe truckers shut their air conditioning when deisel is so high. He doesn't mention the hard water stains on everything. Elevation is an issue for anyone older and coming from near sea level. We returned to North Seattle for those reasons, everything else is very nice there; except the CA fire season where visability was a few blocks for over a week. We have crazy, bumpy streets in Seattle, and a short summer/fall, always overcast, but not as severely cold and dry as Sparks where the sprinklers freeze there AND it's expensive to get plumbers or workers there. I did't wear a hat in all of that beautiful sun, so the skin cancer on my head must be removed next week. The people are mostly out-going and nice, views for us from the Northwest are overwelmingly beautiful, and so spacious in Reno-Sparks; and houses are newer and a good value with much fairer taxes and utilities. We're not the out-doorsy types, conditioned to live indoors by over 30 yrs in Seattle, but those who've grown-up there are in a great area if they don't gamble; still happy we tried it, but should have rented 6 mo. first..😄

    My husband and I are LOVING living in Reno. I am back in Chicago for a bit, taking care of family business. Being back is perfect confirmation that our move to Reno was nothing but POSITIVE. The homeless problem and violence, in Reno, is minuscule compared to being back "home". Even though I had only been in Reno for a month, I feel reverse homesick, now. I miss the mountains, the dry breezes, the FRIENDLY residents AND the great restaurants we had been discovering. Oh, I miss the Reno airport, too. Even the TSA there are kind and considerate. I am counting the days until I get back to my elevated 4th & McCarran townhouse balcony, overlooking the stars, the snow-capped peaks and the smells of garlic wafting over from "Johnny's".

    Reno has earthquake swarms, lots of small shakes for a few days from time to time and because the fault lines are shallower than some of the famous ones in California, what's a mild shake over there can do more damage in Reno, so I've been told. I know some single family homes and new townhouses had pretty big cracks running through the building following a series of shakes years ago - but its quickly plastered and painted over so a new tenant or homeowner would not know, so inspect well or buy new if you're going to invest in property. The other unpleasant thing is the annual wildfire season in California, and Reno is downwind, I wear an N95 mask when I go outside on those days - may not be good if you have asthma, wildfire smoke and high elevation low oxygen might be hard on older folks. Also, we have winter inversion when smoke from chimneys hang around for days in the lower parts of the city, don't call it the great basin for nothing, when there is no wind to blow it away. Higher elevations should be much better. Reno despite being close to nature and a small city does not have the best year round air quality. Other than those things, Reno is great, almost sheltered from natural disasters you see in the national news.

    I have been to Reno about 150 times since 1992 when my friend moved to Sparks Nevada. When he bought his new home all you saw when you looked out the back of the house was lots of vacant land and cows, now they built a whole new city with a fence just out side his back yard. Reno is very busy today not like 1992 and they got rid of Harrahs hotel downtown Reno which sucks, the only good thing i like about Reno today is Hot August nights which is a celebration of 50s and 60s cars, great video David.

      Smoke and fires definitely happen. Out of the last 3 years, 2 were pretty bad. I've lived in Reno for a total of almost 11 years, I would say only about 3 years out of that 11 were bad. That is just my personal experience. A lot of the fires and smoke are from California fires, not always just in Northern Nevada, so keep that in mind.

    Half of your reasons not to live here aren't downsides. Being a smaller city, being colder, the elevation, and dryness are all the perks. The downsides are the rent, home prices, lousy education system, tacky "art" everywhere, the Californians, our joke of a mayor, the constant road construction, the rampant drug problem, I can keep going.

    • @DavidTully775
      @DavidTully775  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good point and question!
      The problem with mobile homes in mobile parks is that they are considered personal property and it is typically harder to get a loan for those types of mobile homes.
      Manufactured homes with a converted foundation that are considered real property are good options and cheaper than typical single-family homes out here, but they aren't that cheap either, unfortunately.

    First of all have lived in the Reno area for 40 years so I know it almost like a native. This is an interesting video. For almost every "problem" he listed he then gave a counter argument that essentially reversed the "problem' he spoke about and said it was a good thing. I only agree with him on two areas: high housing and rent costs caused mainly by all of the Californians who have flocked here in the last 10-12 years to escape California and brought their high real estate prices with them. The other area that I agree with is problems with the public education system in Washoe County. This is not a problem with the teachers (my wife has been teaching high school here for 20 years). The problem is a "woke" school board who have been hiring the wrong school Superintendents for many years and who have let the citizens of Reno down because of poor leadership and direction. The new Superintendent seems to be better so maybe we can reverse this direction.
