How To Change Indian Scout Bobber Handlebars: With internal wiring | Dean Speed Lowball

- I installed a set of Dean Speed low ball bars on the Scout Bobber and ran the wires internally. I got to say, the craftsmanship of the bars is second to none. They are beautifully made, I can appreciate the time spent on them. The welds are noice, I know sounds corny but its a lot art imo. No I cant weld but can I admire someone who can. The finish is great also, so do yourself a favor and check out his website for parts for your bike, you wont regret it.
I'm in not way affiliated with his company, he's just a solid dude that makes great stuff.

Comfort is just so important. Great job !
Thanks for watching. You’re correct, it’s very important. If you’re worried about comfort then you’re distracted from the road.
Awesome vid, Was wondering if I need extended wiring for the clutch and brake for the Low Ball 8-inch handlebars? Or can I just use the stock wiring normally without buying it?
I’ve had a few people ask me which bars I got, I’ll put a link in the description.
Thank you from France ;=)
did you have to pull the clutch and brake cables? or you felt you still had some flexibility on those cables?
They’re good now. I had a phone mount that was keeping my clutch cable tight.
Debating between these or the twisted choppers one. Do you have any experience with the twister chopper handle bars? One reason why i considered the twisted choppers is because i dont have to spend another $40 for the mirror adapter 😅
I don’t have any experience, sorry
Did you have to extend any of the wiring going internal? I have read some people at 10” having to extend throttle wire. 8” work? Thanks!
I didn’t have to extend anything. Thanks for watching
Great video and bad ass. ?what year is your bike I have a 2021 bobber and wonder if I would need longer internal wires for the 10''. ? as far as you seen do you think we would have enough slake on the internal wiring for a 10'' bar.
Thanks for watching! I have an 18 bobber, I’ve read that you can get away with 10 inch but it’s tight. Imo I wouldn’t risk it, I’d get the extension kit. If you don’t need it you can return it.
Did you use any Special pin extractor.
@@alejandroolmeda3759 no but if you get the bigger inner diameter bars you won’t need to take the plugs apart
So when you upgrade the clutch cable do you think a +2 will be enough? About to put 8" bars on mine. The brake line is long enough though?
It may not work, I got 6" rise and the clutch was tight. I should get a longer cable but I've been busy as hell with life. it the reason that I haven't posted any new vids in a while. Got some home life issues I'm working through.
how did you get the wires disconnected from the blocks?
Its been a while can you explain what blocks please
Your mirrors are a very tough part. What did you end up doing?
Did u have to change clutch and brake lines for em to fit this handlebar? I have a bobber and wanna stick 10" apes on em, and if i can avoid needing to redo thart part i would be one happy camper.
I didn’t have to
For 10” and above you will need new longer lines
Have you thought of putting the Short Windscreen on the bobber? Wondering what that would look like with the lowball bars.
You didn’t have to change the brake line and clutch wire? For longer ones?
No but the clutch cable is a little tighter then I’d like. I’ll be replacing it soon
Thanks for the video. Now I can make a decision. Where did you get those handle bar grips. They look comfy
Avon air cushion grips. The memory foam ones are better
did you have to get the Dean Speed Bobber Bar End Mirror Adapter Kit to fit stock mirrors?
I actually just bought them because the ones that came with the mirrors I bought sucked.
I can’t wait. I have these bars coming In. What’s the name for your seat? I’m needing to upgrade mine!
corbin
WOW. Great! I don't dare to change the handlebar myself.
And... may I ask what kind of saddleback(box) is installed in your white scout 60 at the beginning of this video clip?
Thanks for watching, the bags are Viking hard bags. The bars aren’t hard to change, the hardest part were getting the wiring right
@@FNGMOTO Thank you! That's the point, wiring setting... HAHAHA..
I've ordered mine, I'm waiting to be able to mount it.
This video comes at the right time.
Nice Job
Thanks and I'm glad I could help. Patient is key, hopefully you'll consider subscribing if you haven't done so already
@@FNGMOTO that's right I forgot... error fixed, I am now a subscriber.
@ that means a lot to us. Our channel isn’t big but I’d like to get a better following for it. We appreciate you.
I ordered my bars roughly two weeks ago. Curious how long it took to receive yours? And did you have to adjust/change position on you brake cable?
@@dbarnett346 I'm in France and Dean Speed gave me 4 to 5 weeks for delay. So I'm waiting...
For adjustment i have no idea, but F.N.G MOTO say with an 8" there no adjust needed.
Some say just need to pass the hose and clutch cable differently.
Indians have vert sensetive sensors anything will set them off and give you a check engine light.
..But awesome video i ended up going with deans t- bar titus 10".
Great bars and video did you install the 6” low ball or 8” it flashed on screen 8 when you mentioned the size just wondered if that was a correction
Thanks for the compliment and watching. Yeah they’re 8 not 6, I got it mixed up with something else, sorry about that.
Did you get a matte finish on the bars or gloss?
@@IndianFTR_Rider Matte finish
@@FNGMOTO Did you have any problems with the clutch cable, does the steering still go lock to lock ok
@@IndianFTR_Rider clutch cable is tight but was able to get the lever in place. I can still go full lock
I ordered these exact bars in gloss black for my Bobber based off your video.. Thanks for sharing this! Can't wait to get them in, but unfortunately they are backed uo for 6-8 weeks. I might just end up buying their rampage slip ons as well.
Thanks for watching the video, sucks that he’s on back order but it’s worth the wait. They make outstanding stuff and he’s pretty cool. I’ve heard really good things about his exhaust as well.
Got the bars today, was working on mounting them and I stripped one of the Allen bolts that hold the tachometer. Not sure what to do now, if my tools are cheap or used the wrong wrench
That sucks but it’s fixable. Get a set of easy outs. You should be able to get them at Lowe’s, Home Depot or any place that sells tools.
8-1/8-in Double-Ended Screw Extractor www.lowes.com/pd/SpeedOut-8-1-8-in-Double-Ended-Screw-Extractor/1000170531
@@FNGMOTO I'll check out an home Depot today.. do you think it was the Allen bit that is crappy? And can I buy a replacement for that bolt easy?
@@ajvalerio86 yeah replacement bolts are common. Just take one of the goods ones with you. Hard to say what caused it to strip out, could be a bunch of different reasons.
@@ajvalerio86 got an update?
@@FNGMOTO just tried yesterday with the rubber band and failed, tried with a horrible glove and failed, went and bought an extractor set to use with my power tool but it doesn't have enough torque to loose the bolt. Tried on the other 3 bolts with a t40 torque bit and not a single one even moves. I'm at a loss and i might need to just ask a mechanic
How did you get rid of the check engine light at the end?
It cleared itself after riding it for a bit.
Thanks for the video. About to do mine and this was helpful
I've put apes on my last 3 Hardly Davidsons, just picked up my 18 Scout ABS gonna do it also. I know I'll want a longer clutch cable with 12's do you think front brake line and the wiring will be long enough? And what are wire tags? Never heard of them before? Thanks in advance, Mark
Thanks for watching bro. Wire tags are numbered, you put the tag on one end of the plug and the same number on the other end. That way you know where each wire goes when you put the connectors back together. I put a link in the description.
Hopefully you’ll consider subscribing if you haven’t done so.
@Spectre boy anything over 10" you'll need extended wires and brake and clutch cables I believe at least according to indian
@@codywiley2942 sounds right but even with the 8 my clutch cable is tight. I’m going to get a Barnett soon.
What is the check engine light ? And love the bars
Don’t know what the check engine light was, it went away and hasn’t come back. I’m assuming it was because I had the cables apart. The bars are awesome, excellent build quality. Thanks for watching, hopefully you’ll consider subscribing if you haven’t done so.
Thanks for posting the vid to help all us other guys looking to add more style to our Scouts.
I have some Dean Speed bars to install but am iffy about running the wiring internally. How did you go about removing the pins from the plastic connector?
I have a kit that I got from amazon
I’m looking to buy new handlebars for my ISB but I’m having a hard time deciding on the rise. May I ask how different your riding stance is from stock bars and your height?
I’m 5’8 and I’m almost upright, I do have a slight forward lean. My hands are in perfect position for me.
Great video! I have a question, You did not have to buy a new Clutch Cable and Brake Line Kit?
Thanks for watching. No I didnt need any new cables but if you go taller you might need a new clutch cable. Glad you enjoyed the video, hopefully you'll consider subscribing.
This is pretty amazing. I was actually looking for a video like this because I'm getting my handlebars soon (same one that you have). I'll probably NOT run the wiring inside because I don't trust myself taking a part the connectors so it will not look as clean as yours, but hey I'll do what I can do :)
Looks pretty straight forward without that step. They look dope!
Thanks for watching and the compliment bro. Taking apart the connectors is intimidating for sure.
@@FNGMOTO very welcome! And yeah, I'll leave the connectors as they are and zip tie them like on the stock bars i guess
@@ajvalerio86 if you know someone that is an electrician or comfortable doing it, that might be an option.
When you start working on your bike remove the main fuse and you won’t get the CEL coming on after.
@@hawaiibikekahuna8204 good tip thanks
If you get the 1 1/4" Lowballs, getting the wires through will be a lot easier and they are beefier bars. Nice vid bro.
That is true bro but I don’t think they are tapered at the end like the stock ones are. Not sure if the controls would fit. I did think about it but talked myself out of it. Thanks for watching bro, hopefully you’ll consider subscribing if you haven’t done so.
Thanks for watching and the compliment on the vid.
I am thinking of getting these for my Bobber I messaged Dean speed and they said the pre wiring only come on the 1” 1/4 ones, which ones did you get? Did you get the 1” ?
@@IndianFTR_Rider these are the ones that I got.
dean-speed.com/low-ball/
@@FNGMOTO Thanks buddy so you got 1” was your prepped for bar end mirrors too?
So I know I'm not to much taller than you but would you think these are good bars for someone that is 6'4" and is wanting a reduced reach feel to take some stress off my back without having to go with to high of bars
I’m only 5’8” on a good day lol. Being 6’4” and depending on your arm length and torso, I’d say a taller bar, raked back might be a better fit. It’s really tough to say and I don’t want to steer you in the wrong direction. One piece of advice that I got , that helped me is, sit on the bike, close your eyes and put your hands and arms out. Start at shoulder height and move them up or down until you feel comfortable. That will give you a good starting point.
@@FNGMOTO unfortunately I have to be very careful when it comes to the height of the bar because I have nerve damage in my upper body I know I can't have my hands at shoulder height for more than a couple minutes the stock bars aren't to bad but when I rode another bike same brand but different model and it had 6 or 8 inch rise bars it was nicer on the back and in your video you mentioned that they helped relive some back stress just curious if you think they would give me a little bit of a reduced reach feel and by chance do you know how far you can pull/rake the bars towards the rider
@@jamesfranks123 ahh now I get it. Yeah the 8 in bars that I have do feel like the reduced reach bars that my wife has on her scout. That’s why I went with them. I think 8 inch is the sweet spot, I hope I answered your question. I hate to hear about your nerve damage, can’t imagine what that is like.
@@FNGMOTO it's all good I believe I'm going to pull the trigger and get them thanks for the help and the video was nicely put together good job sir
@@jamesfranks123 thanks, that means a lot. Thank you for watching, ride safe and keep the shiny side up. ✌🏽
Where did you get that Indian phone mount and the bracket to mount it in front of the forks there? And this video was great man, I got Dean Speeds 12 gauge exhaust last summer and I couldn’t be more happy with the look and sound. Watching this video makes me really want these bars for that reduced reach and better look than the oem bars. I’m 5’7” so I’m not tall and after a couple hours being leaned forward my lower back starts to hurt so I’m hoping maybe these will help with that. Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for watching bro, we are the exact same height so I think the bars would be good for you. They are definitely more comfortable than the stock ones.
The mount has been discontinued by Indian, it was oem. I’d advise against it honestly, the vibration will destroy your phone’s camera, it’s know issue.
@@FNGMOTO If you ever want to get rid of that phone mount just let me know, I will buy it from you. Great video by the way.

Did you find out why the check engine light was on?
I didn’t, my best guess is because everything was disconnected. It cleared itself and never came back

How tight did you torx down the handlebars
Manual says 22 ft lbs and I would use loctite. I did that after a few rides, didn’t want to loctite anything until I was positive I had the position of the bars exactly where I wanted them.

Really happy with them. This might sound corny but every time I get in the seat I smile. Looks so great.
What grips are those?
