    I love the 4th night free benefit. Used it in Mexico City, San Francisco and Seoul just in the past year. So we got 12 nights out of a single IHG premier bonus!

    I'm Diamond Ambassador, my wife is not - Twice last summer we needed a fifth night and a sixth night at 2 different InterContinental's - I did 4th night free with Diamond Status then the remainder with my wife's points ( Platinum) and were never asked to move to another room( I did ask staff prior to my 4th night being over). We did lose the free breakfast , but now with your business member tip all points will be with my Diamond status.

    Good tip on checking for a reward certificate vs points when wanting to use a FNC, I did not realize that they might use different stocks. Also great tip that IHG does not guarantee standard nights available if there is a free room (Its per place how many rooms they allow for point use)

      Hmm. Suggestion for your friend:
      Start with a cash back card (apparently, they like cash) for G&G and get the ink BU to enter the points game (1.5 back is more than they're earning now). Get one iBU, Pay off the SUB, Refer the partner (presuming, there's a player two). That's a lot of points - plus whatever's earned in regular spend for the business. Or, maybe, this family is more comfortable earning all cash back.

    Great episode guys! IHG is close to Hyatt in some way, but Hyatt still holds the throne. Re: Disney: As a fam of 6, who takes a 1 week annual trip during peak season, we have a ton of tips. Tell your friend to consider staying at a Disney Good Neighbor Hotel. Much better value and still has most of the same perks as onsite resort. Wyndham has a couple of these hotels. Your friend has a business and spends a ton on gas...I'm guessing y'all can take it from here 😊

    It gets ignored by credit card fans, but there is a benefit to having the no AF Disney card itself - the 10% discount on merch and dining in the parks. After buying a $20 hot dog, I was kicking myself for leaving my card at home.
    There are also little perks, like a special photo ops spot in the parks. They used to have better - character meet and greets and a lounge during the food festival at EPCOT. Maybe they will bring those back, who knows

    • @frequent-miler
      @frequent-miler  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      But you don't need the credit card for any of that stuff! All you need is a Chase checking account and then you can request a Disney Debit Card for your Chase account and you get the same 10% discount on merch and dining and the same character meet and greet things.

      @@frequent-miler , cool, I didn't realize that. Maybe a good discussion question for an episode sometime - are there any debit cards worth opening a checking account for? Unless you already have a Chase checking account, I would opt for the no AF credit card. I think a checking account is a hassle. And that means you have to keep dead money in there in advance of the Disney trip

    Marriott is an option for Disney at the Swan, Dolphin, and Swan Reserve on points. All are on property but part of Marriott.

    I stretch my IHG 40,000 pt FNC’s by booking during a 15 % points discount promotion. We have booked a 47,000 pt hotel with a FNC by using these discounts on several occasions. They typically have one every year in January and sometimes again later in the year.

    Thank you for another very informative podcast. I earlier in the podcast, you talked about JetBlue. I was denied JetBlue application with Barclays and same with Citi AAdvantahe for American Airlines, due to having opened too many cards etc. anyways to get around this? Any tips/tricks is greatly appreciated!

    The Swan and Dolphin hotels (Swan reserve too) use Marriott and Hilton points and are on Disney property and get "on property" access to parks. Not themed but very nice. We stayed at The Swan Reserve with park view to see fireworks at night.

    You could rent DVC through a third party. You get a deluxe category resort, great amenities for kids. Bigger pools and slides. It’s best to put in dates 11 months in advance, that’s the benefit of owning DVC if you’re looking to book a busy time of year. Any card with the purchase eraser will be an easy option with instant results. You can also purchase Disney park tickets through a third party that codes as travel to erase that. Depending on the amount of park days you do, that could cost as much as the room especially for a family of four. Staying in the Disney “bubble” can almost be necessary. Getting a business card could allow purchasing disney gift cards from office stores at a discount.

    I might have someone just starting go for the Disney Visa Card right now for all spend (2x at grocery stores and gas) . Then when they are about a year or two out go for the Southwest Companion pass for flights down there. Then if comfortable, get a Venture card or two for erasing more purchases closer to going. It's tough to know what to do so you don't overwhelm people.

    Re the Disney question: the Swan hotel (not a Disney hotel but it’s on Disney property and you get the on-property perks) is a Marriott property, so you could do a card that is transferable to Marriott or maybe a Bonvoy card. But if you want to stay at one of the value hotels, I’d focus on a card that would pay for the flights (CSP etc).

    For Disney I would get C1 savor, later Venture. Then use points to erase purchase of tickets. Viator is selling them for example

    Question to Nick, which secondary Hotel brand would you go with? Marriott or IHG?

    • @frequent-miler
      @frequent-miler  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Marriott for me. I've come to enjoy using points to stay at hotels that are more upscale than I would have been willing to pay for and Marriott just has a far more extensive collection of very nice hotels between former Starwood properties, the Autograph Collection, etc. And "free breakfast status" is so easy to obtain given that one consumer card and one business credit card have you starting the year with 30 or 40 elite nights.

    Just in time, I'm moving at least 50% of my stays to IHG. My Marriott problem is I have 4 of their CCs that comes with an award night.
    I would love a premium IHG card after Chase launches the premium Hyatt card.

  • @lambkrdmd

    It was mentioned during the show that if you have the old $49 annual fee ihg card and a newer business card that the benefits stack... e.g., the 10% points back on the $49 card and the 4th night free on the new business card. Is that something that just happens automatically (the stacking) when booking a four night stay with ihg and you have both cards? Or does ihg just apply one benefit and you have to call in for the other? Just wanted to clarify how that works and know what to expect. Thanks!

    • @frequent-miler
      @frequent-miler  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It happens automatically, but at different stages. You get the discount from the 4th night free immediately when you book, then the 10% rebate gets credited to your account several weeks later (I think several weeks after your stay itself). You don't have to call or email them for this to happen.

    You guys mentioned booking Ihg with capital one shopping portal. Is that different than the capital one travel portal?

    • @frequent-miler
      @frequent-miler  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, it's completely separate / different. Capital One Travel is an online travel agency like Expedia or Priceline and you need a Capital One card to log in to it. Capital One Shopping is like Rakuten or TopCashBack or the American Airlines AAdvantage eShopping portal, etc. Anyone can join the Capital One Shopping portal, no Capital One card required -- and you're not booking through Capital One, you're just clicking a link from Capital One that takes you to IHG.com and earning portal rewards from clicking their link (same as Rakuten, TopCashBack, etc).
      That's hugely different because with the shopping portal, you're clicking from a shopping portal link to book directly with IHG, so you'll earn IHG points and full elite benefits. If you book through Capital One Travel (or Expedia or Priceline or other credit card travel portals), you typically will NOT earn hotel points or elite benefits or get elite credit.

      So if I booked Intercontinental thru Capital One Travel with my venture X, when I check in, I won’t receive Platinum status benefits from my IHG reward card? They had absurdly low rates for this summer in Asia so had to buy it through the Cap1 travel portal.
