Just some clarification with regards to these cinematics. Final Fantasy 7 was actually the first FF game to have a cinematic trailer. All the trailers you saw for 1-6 were for remakes or ports of older FF games to the PS1.
FF1 : Released originally on the NES in 1987. Remade and ported to the PS1 in 2002 with a new cinematic.
FF2 : Released on NES in 1988. Remade and ported to the PS1 in 2002 with a new cinematic.
FF3: Released on NES in 1990. Remade for the Nintendo DS in 2006 with new cinematic
FF4: Released on SNES in 1991. Remade for the Nintendo DS in 2007 with a new cinematic
FF5: Released on SNES in 1992. Ported to the PS1 in 1998 with the cinematic
FF6: Released on SNES in 1994. Ported to the PS1 in 1999 with the cinematic
FF7: Released on PS1 in 1997. First FF game released with a cinematic
    FF8: Released on PS1 in 1999.
Final Fantasy 3 and 4 have much better cinematics due to them being remade much later than when the others got released (Final Fantasy 4 also has a cinematic from when it originally got ported to the PS1 in 1997 but the DS cinematic is much better).

Super interesting! I had no idea, thanks for the explanation. Crazy to see how old some of them are

@@Ciirella Also to add to what they said but FF1, FF2, FF4, FF5 and FF6 got a GBA remaster. Although FF3 was instead remade for the 3DS with 3D visuals. And FF4 got a DS remake with 3D visuals. Every other game before FF7 has remained 2D. Although the original 2D FF3 is part of the pixel remasters, finally being officially released in the west. And FF1 sorta has been remade recently in FF Origins Stranger of Paradise. But I’m not sure it counts exactly.

Slight correction, the FF1 and FF2 remakes were for the Wonderswan, a handheld from Bandai that was never released outside of Japan. Everything but the music and cutscenes were ported from the Wonderswan to the PS1. This is why FF2 had three release years on it. The first year 1988 was the original NES/Famicom release, 2001 was the Wonderswan, and 2003 was for the PS1 port.

The reason why you see Squaresoft instead of Square Enix in some videos is because originally it was Squaresoft for one hand, who made the first Final Fantasy games and others like the Mana series and there was another company in Japan named Enix, which where the creators of Dragon Quest, Star Ocean and other games. Later, after Final Fantasy X came out, and while Final Fantasy X-2 and Final Fantasy XI where at the gates to come to western territories, both companies merged creating the Square Enix company everybody knows today.

    • @gysahlfields7506

You are spot on, just one correction.
Originally there was SQUARE. It was then changed to SQUARESOFT.
Then they merged with ENIX to form SQUARE ENIX!

24:30 If I'm not mistaken, FF VIII was the first Final Fantasy which had international audiences in mind. It was also made to take full advantage of the PS1's processing power, which were top of the line for the day.

And VIII just reached it's 25th Anniversary on February 11th. I'm actually replaying through it again to celebrate it's anniversary.
VIII is definitely a recommendation game because it's unique Junctioning System. And, for be who doesn't knowz the name of that somg is "Liberi Fatali" which means Fated Children in Latin. It has such a unique storyline. 😊
I played all Final Fantasies accept for XI and XIV. VIII, VII, X, IX, and XIII are my favorites.

12:45 That's sort of complicated to answer... Going by original releases, FF7 was the first 3d FF game as they moved over to playstation from SNES (and the first few games were NES). Some of them games later got playstation (and maybe pc) ports which I think is where the first few trailers come from. Then the early games (definitely 3 and 4, but possibly 1 and 2 as well) got new mobile versions with 3d models. And most recently we've had the pixel remasters, which means the latest release of all the games are back to being 2d again.

You really should play the OG. But why stop there? 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 I highly recommend. You’ll have a good time and it’s plenty of content for your channel. Win-win.
Also, these were the intros, not the trailers. You should check out the trailers too.

It was SquareSoft up until April 1, 2003 when Enix merged with them. It's why you were seeing the name change on certain cinematics as those remakes/remaster/rereleases were made after the merger.

  • @matthewobrien290
    @matthewobrien290 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thing to note the cinematics for the earlier games came with re-releases of the games because some like FF2 & 3 were not originally released in the west. FF1 & 2 were on NES and Famicom i believe (need to fact check) while 3 - 6 was on SNES. So there were not really cinematics or trailers as we know them today. FF 7 onward saw the release of cinematics especially with advertising as the games switched to 3d models instead of sprites (similar to pokemon). FF as series started in 1988 and released almost yearly until the PS2 era. Also Squaresoft is Square-Enix prior a company merger.

FFIII was also on NES, FFIV, V and VI was SNES, VII, VIII and IX were PS1, X, XI and XII for PS2 (XI also on PC). FFI and FFII were remastered with SNES style graphics and released as FF Origins for PS1, FFIV was re-released alongside Chrono Trigger as FF Chronicles on PS1, and FFV and VI were re-released as FF Anthology on PS1, the cinematics for FFI, II, V and VI were added for the PS1 releases, FFIII and IV got their cinematics when they got their DS re-releases with updated 3d graphics

a small detail about the opening of FF2 those black knights in the opening are similar to the nazgul from the Lord of the Rings and that guy who appears with fire in his hand is the main villain they are invading cities and villages with an empire of monsters and undead commanded by he is the emperor of palamecia

Speaking from Dutch experience... I think I first got introduced to the game when I found a copy of FF2 (IV) in the videostore for rental.
As someone else said, the reason some of these cinematics are more rendered than others is that they are pretty much the result of remakes and remasters, after which cinematics were added to games that normally didn't have one.

If you want to jump into the older games, I highly recommend FF4 to start with. The 3D remake is a little tough, but the Pixel Remaster version is also available for old school 2D graphics. It's a very straightforward experience and a good introduction to the turn-based RPG style of the older games.
FF4 is very relevant now to anyone playing FF14.

  • @TenderViddlez
    @TenderViddlez ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah, the first 6 games didn't have cinematic intros until AFTER FF7 and FF8 were released. They added new ones after they were re-released and ported to newer systems. That's why the graphical quality seems out of order.

FFXIV is such a love letter to the Final Fantasy franchise. There are so many references, I can't begin to name them all. If you have a chance to play any other FF games, the ones I would recommend most would be FF4 & FF6. Those two games form the backbone of FFXIV, imo. That said, again, there are references from the entire library of Final Fantasy.
You could include FF3, as well. The Crystal Tower is straight out of that game.

If you think Sephiroth is a powerful and cruel villain, it's because you haven't seen what the Emperor of FF2 and Kefka of FF 6 did. They are 20 times more cruel and sadistic than Sephiroth. Kefka is literally the joker and the Emperor of Palamecia from 2. he is literally Sauron from the Lord of the Rings, the worst is Kefka he was trying to conquer a castle as the owners wouldn't leave there he poisoned the river and killed both his allies and his enemies, he made the protagonist terra his slave for years since she was a child he made her kill several people just for fun she was not aware of what she was doing due to the crown of slavery on her head that he placed on her when she was a child and destroyed it the world for fun and still became a god around them Sephiroth is just a child
