  • We're here at the Hartais ranch in Southern Colorado with my friends from Axil, Collin Russel with Chevalier Advertising, John from the ‪@Thebiggamehuntingblog‬, Adam also known as ‪@WHOTEEWHO‬ and Freddy Hartais ‪@StonewallTheOutfitter‬ , a Hunting TV star and owner of the Harteis Ranch and Properties and all around a good dude.. I’ve been invited to embark on an adventure in taking my first Buffalo, properly referred to as the American Bison.
    I have been hinting about this adventure on my videos for quite a while now, and now we’re finally here.

    One important fact about myself… I have NEVER taken big game before, so I am EXCITED to share this experience with you all.
    A big question everyone asks is what is the purpose of hunting? Is it the excitement of the kill? Is it the massive amounts of meat that I will be able to feed my family with? To be honest, for me its a little bit of it all. More importantly, this is proof to myself that I don’t need to rely on a grocery store to feed my family. The thought of harvesting and eating the meat that I took is a great feeling of accomplishment. I can’t tell you the reasoning why others do what they do, but this is mine.
    Hope you all enjoy!

      @@jpara617 me as well, we have to eat, and just like any other animal we will kill a weaker animal for food. The only kind of hunter I don’t like is the kind that hunts for sport and doesn’t do anything with the meat, like it’s one thing to sell the skin and sell to a butcher if you aren’t going to use the animal, but then there’s people who will just kill it, take their picture, and then walk away that makes me so mad, bringing a bad name to Hunter everywhere and only killing just to kill, but yeah I definitely love me some steak and such!

      I dont know if youve ever been high fence deer hunting before its not as easy as you think. Most of the ranches are 4000+ acres, usually youre hunting a specific deer you may never see. People who have not done it knock it because they dont know. It sounds like they usead all of fhe animal that they could so what does it matter. The food you eat is killed in a pen.

    Greetings from Alaska. After years and years of packing a Mossberg 500 with an an 18" barrel and rifle sights, I decided to to retire the old girl and I now pack around a Marlin GBL with 430 grain hard cast flat point, also by Buffalo-Bore. Not sure they still carry it any longer, but the box says 1800fps@ and over 3600 ft lbs of energy at the muzzle. It's a beast of a round at both ends.

    I would only do this if my life depends on it, this is the aspect of owning guns I personally don't like so I have stayed away. I want this rifle badly but thinking of it more to have it as a companion on a wilderness dream Alaska trip. Impressive how much real good meat one can get out of one of these but I know I can not bring myself past the shooting the animal just because; I would had no problem shooting it to defend my life but what would be the chances of me being close to a Bison herd prepared with this rifle? Very well presented video, it strikes me weird how you describe the good things we have and experience in life in contrast with the life you are about to take; wonder if it crossed your mind? Ultimately I am not against people hunting or their choices at all; I just don't think I can bring myself to enjoy it. It always have been a though place for me so I enjoyed 99 percent of the video except for the animal dying. It is one of those things!

    • @MrBigKid

      That is a pretty common thought, however...
      This bison has now fed my family for two months, and will continue feeding my family for many more months to come. It is much easier to just "buy a steak" from a grocery store and not have the blood on your hands from killing that cow you are about to enjoy.
      I guess in my thought process, I feel proud that I had the ability to harvest my own food for my family.
      In general, if you eat meat at all... it was once a living creature. Watching the Bison die was not fun, in fact I felt a big wave of remorse. I also said a prayer thanking god for the opportunity, and thanking the Bison for feeding my family. I don't regret the harvest at all... In fact in a twisted way, I feel like it was more honorable to kill it myself instead of making someone else do the dirty work for me.
      Now if I injured the bison, I would feel very bad. However a spine shot means instant painless lights-out.

    • @fireyourrocketts
      @fireyourrocketts 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MrBigKid I read you laud and clear, it is no fun the killing part but the benefits outpaces that in most cases. I stopped eating meat some time ago constantly still eat here and there and it would be the same as killing that cow in a way; to me if I am about in the wilderness and have to survive and have the means to do so is how I could only justify to myself faking the animal’s life other than defending my own; I guess I could be friend to them but wild animals are not friend to us; I have never tasted bison or even deer and I have always thought if I did I might change my mind about taking that shot; everything is relative in life, understand my respects for the animal life now does not means I could not change it someday but as it has not happened up until now I dont see how it would any time soon. It was nice to pray and thank God and the bison for its meat, many hunters dont even do that.
