    I think it’s amazing that a 6 times (greatest ever)WSBK champion takes the time to do these videos to help people. I think it shows what a genuine down to earth person JR is 😎

      Well, I am astonished that JR makes those vids, this means in turn he has nothing to provide about real racing. Looking back a year he made vids from the padock. This vid is default talk every instructor tell you on a race day. A pitty JR ends his career this way.

    Basic, but useful advice for those who start riding, from a multiple world champion. Invaluable. I would have added: "take a full riding course and repeat it after a while". It's incredible the amount of riding mistakes one sees on the track. That includes myself. Get yourself filmed from various angles. You certainly do things that you don't realize. I mean, I do.

    Chasing the highest apex speed is my biggest flaw as a beginner. Thanks for the reminder that the risk is higher and takes focus from the other aspect that is needed to be trained first.

    Great video series JR! Something most of us track day folks need to learn and understand is trail braking at the beginning of the lean, how to judge beginning and ending pressures and times, confidence, feel, speed, etc. A show dedicated to whatever insights and advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

    How good is this. I'm about to do a track day and this pops up. Thank you Jonathan Rea. You answered a question I have had for a while about the pressure applied to the inside or outside foot pegs during cornering, and using the balls of your feet, thanks for confirming this.
    Hopefully, in the next video, you can cover some more on trail breaking and body position for corner entry.

      Don't waste your time, if you feel it's your thing, and you can afford it, do it now. I regret having started only at 43. But I'm so glad I did. It's addictive!

      @@CarloPiana I’m 58 and wish I had started much earlier and ignored my sons your too old to start now dad many years before I went for it!
      If I have the time this summer I will in the mean time I have two weeks touring from Santander down to the Algarve for WSBK VIP hospitality courtesy of my sons mate and back which is going to be epic on our Ducati Panigales!

    As you’re such a high level rider, I’d love it if you went deeper into some advanced concepts. There’s lots of beginner friendly trackday content.
    Maybe even consider doing a members only content, similar to what Sylvain Guintoli does, his track videos are amazing too.
    Among other things, I’d love to hear something about really hard braking on a modern big bike, where your rear wheel lifts. How do you control it, transition into a corner, what’s the proper body position, etc.

    great video- I like how you say forget about being fast at the apex. Maybe a video breaking down braking and downshifts on different corner radius. I tell myself body, brake, downshift before tip in but those tight corners after high speed straights get me mixed up sometime where i miss my downshifts as too much seems to be going on in my head and breaking seems to be a priority

    I have such bad English skills but your videos make learning English fun 😁. Very interesting and good video, you explained it in 10 minutes, something else racing coach explains in 10 videos of 20 minutes each. For me, Arai is also the best helmet brand, but what I don't like about the integrated Alpinestar airbag is that it doesn't really cover the back of the neck, which is probably the most important thing in my eyes. I have the Helite e-GP Air 2.0 which is tight-fitting and made for racing and also covers the back of the neck. I wish you all the best 😉 #forever65

    Jonathan Rea, you are an amazing pilot who has his own sophisticated driving style, and many are shocked by your style and how you can control a motorcycle at such limits. I have been following and fanning you for many years and rejoice at every victory you have and your hard efforts to master the Yamaha. You are a tough fighter. I would like to ask you about the position of the body during heavy braking. You talk about the position of the legs and arms for beginner pilots. But there is a more advanced technique of one-leg braking. Could you tell me about the position of the body in one leg? Some pilots say they will drop one cheek even before the start of braking, or right at the moment of braking, which was easier to move along with inertia.
    At this moment, the outside leg is pressed tightly against the tank and presses the tank in the direction of the turn, and the foot presses into the peg. the inside leg is already on the toe and already turned at the knee and ready to turn. As far as I understand, in order to do this and stay on the motorcycle, you need to sit closer to the tank at the initial stage of braking, when one cheek drops off, and press your thigh tightly to the tank. Is it so? Please tell us in more detail about the position of the body at this moment. I weigh 100kg and I’m hitting my knee and elbow, but there’s a problem with braking.     I have been club racing three years and have a fully built ‘22 R1. I have started to hit my pinnacle in performance and times so would be interested in recommended training and tactics for continuing to develop. I’m mid pack for most races so I know there is room for improvement.

    Awesome video I had my first trackday on my own track bike the other week (before I hired rentals) and I massively struggled with the bike I didn’t keep an eye on tyre pressures enough but also I’ve never adjust my suspension since I got it any tips on how to adjust your suspension ?

    Hi. Love these videos. Two questions, how do you weight the bike with your outside foot to get the bike out of the corner when your body is hanging off to the inside? And a lot of pro rider dangle one leg in braking, doesn't that put all the weight on your arms since you're not squeezing the tank with your thighs? Also, if you make another video, would be nice if you cover vision. Cheers.

    Thanks Jonathan, great content. I understand weighting the pegs in a corner but what are you doing with the bars to achieve full lean? Are you counter-steering quite hard to get the bike to turn?

    Im not a leaning off the bike rider i use counter steering is this an effective way or am i impeding myself?

    Can you talk about steering in the middle of the corner and what that should feel like? Up until my past track day I had a nasty habit of constantly applying pressure to the bar to turn the bike, increasing turn radius. I still haven't learned how to "guess" the correct Lean angle for any corner. This is causing me to not go into any corners faster than 40ish mph, but I know people on the same bike can go faster. Maybe steering rate is what I am asking about? Any advice would be appreciated!

    Question! Is it bad to have ‘some’ weight in the handlebars under hard braking? I know you’re supposed to use your core and legs to keep you upright, but sometimes it’s really difficult.

      Yes you will have a lot of load through your hands under hard braking. The load should be coming off your hands as you turn, with the goal being a bent unloaded inside arm

    Sorry Jonny, I got to stop you right here. Lean off the bike is not, so you can put more weight onto the inside peg. It's about getting the riders center of gravity to the inside of the bike, in general the CG is around about ,at your belly button and most of your weight pressure is in the seat and some in you legs of course. It also can help to pull the bike over with your outside leg. Yes the leg pressure helps but it's not the initial reason.
    This diagnoses is similar to people explaining why do riders drag their knee, answer (wrong by the way) , so they can feel the pavement. this also is wrong, The reason is that the rider gains an advantage in turning bike and how it affects lean angle by doing so. When hanging one cheek off, the normal positioning of leaning, he is naturally going to go into a position where the knee is off to the side. Coincidentally, it works quite well as a lean angle gauge....
    Back to the first point, try turning your MC with just your feet, very little happens, try turning with counter steering, a lot happens...it's may be a 100 to 1 comparison. Also, being concerned about this, as an initial track day tip, is kind of ridiculous, I can easily thing of a dozen more pertinent issues....yikes man...I can't even watch the rest of the video...
