So many tips that I can't wait to try out. Recently received a personal video review after Sylvain asked for people to upload their track footage. I gave him plenty of errors to work on :-) but couldn't believe it when he replied with a fully overlaid commentary the following day. In the first couple of minutes I demonstrate not shifting down quickly and running on when braking - some great tips in this - th-cam.com/video/FgrmWZhHajg/w-d-xo.html

Please continue! What about the topic like: how to find a racing line in unknown circuit? OR Racing line/Fast line/Overtaking line differences. OR How to prepare overtakes? or actually compete. Thank you again from Serbia and Russia :)
@@VState60 well, Simon is good but sometimes his style of explanation or riding stile feels for me much less applicable for my riding. And even if Sylvain is speaking about the top level things I still can apply it for my riding. Which is the most important for me.
You watch experienced riders on youtube give great advice, which is wonderful .... And then watch a pro like this guy, this dude's on a different planet 😆, love it!!!
I will say it again...best channel on the Tube for learning how to ride tips. Thank you man. You channel is the only channel that I get excited about new videos. God Bless.
Sylvain, this is a great series. I am an amateur racer in the US with some moderate success. I have never felt comfortable using the rear brake with the exception of running off track. I always thought it was a major shortcoming of my riding. I do click down a gear as soon as I release throttle and transition to brake, it settles/slows the bike for sure. From a psychological stance however, I really appreciate hearing one of the best riders in the world state that he doesn’t use the rear on a superbike. It actually takes a weight off my shoulders. It sounds silly but racing, as any endeavor you wish to be successful in, is 90% mental. I am really just trying to say thank you for sharing that!
@@technicalthug When you're braking hard enough to lift the rear up, the rear brake becomes useless. Even MotoGP riders only use the rear brake a little during the initial braking application before totally releasing it, and only start to use it again during the turn-in.
Bro, you are one heck of a teacher.. Brilliant work.. There are many people who have talent, but to be able to teach that talent is quite a different thing. Congrats
Thank you, Sylvain! At Laguna Seca I enjoy watching riders entering turn 5. From a vantage point under the pedestrian bridge you can see that nobody has the rear wheel in line, it's always sliding and often side to side. Absolutely spectacular! Doing this over race distance and not pitching it away, is beyond the incredible!
Really, really interesting tips and tricks explained by a very experienced and highly respected professional racer. High quality video too and seems to be a very nice guy. Keep the good stuff coming Sylvain. 👍
This wasn't a rear brake lesson This was a life lesson ❤️ U are great at teaching keep the videos coming 🙏 This video explained alot for me as an amateur rider
Wow ! Very analytical and articulate gentleman. He explained these details over 9 minutes but this all happens in a matter of seconds. Consider the 1000s of repetitions to gain the muscle memory necessary to compete at this level. Amazing dedication sir. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge.
Great advice. I don't track, just fast road riding. I use the rear for trail braking into the corner. Your expert advice on changing down a gear at the corner entry for engine braking is a revelation!! Makes so much sense. Less rear brake, more use of engine braking. Thank you :)
I've been riding and doing track days for years, and this was one of the most informative videos I've ever watched. Every other video has just been things I already knew on repeat. For once, I learned something new today. Thank you.
after 51 years riding I don't go to the track anymore. I do scrub my rear brake every ride just to keep things fresh. Great tips and thank you. If you can be faster then you can be safer on the street.
I really appreciate that You want to share Your kwnowledge. Your channel is much much better than many motorbike schools in Poland. I' am wainting for top 50 tips to ride like like You. Best wishes!
If you’re into bikes this is the channel of the century. Thanks Sylvain looks like you have two gifts. The ability to ride fast as well as articulately explain to us enthusiasts.
Dude, this is exactly what I was looking for. Nobody has explained rear braking while cornering better than you on youtube. Thank you so much! I instantly subscribed. Would love to see that graph for the full corner with lean angle and acceleration added. Also different types of corners would be great as well.
For years I’ve been wondering why more racers don’t use the rear brake, and I stubbornly kept using it, but thanks to your explanation, I realize that it’s not necessary on a production-based bike. Thanks for including the bike data to explain the “when” and “why”. I think many experienced riders and even racers try explaining and what they do, but aren’t 100% sure about how much they’re applying the brake or gas; your use of actual rider/bike data demystifies and clarifies things. I will try to avoid using the rear brake from now on.
The moment I thought I learned everything about different way to attacking corner, this guy comes up and shatter my whole perspective about cornering. Good video man.
This is by far the best explanation of rear brake technique I've seen so far, and I've looked up a lot of videos and talked to a lot of people track side about it. Thanks a bunch Sylvain!
When I was a kid riding my bicycle I was taught during straight line braking to apply the front brake and at the same time blend in the rear brake and than release before entering a bend I actually still use that method today when riding my motorcycle seems to work Thanks for sharing you inner most secrets...!!!
This explains a lot, my RVF 400 has really good engine braking and to be honest I rarely use my rear brake when the bike is flowing. Thanks again Silvain.
Thank you so much Sylvain! I asked about the use of rear brake in your 10 tips to ride like a pro, and now you post this video. Bravo! Hope you get more sub!
Absolutely the best motorbike channel on youtube already. Every note comes from your results and your experience. I salut you, as one biker to another. Thank you
My R6 engine braking is lovely; means I rarely touch the brakes on the road. Learning to be more brutal and knowing the braking limit on the track is what I find harder. Great vid.
You should practice in an empty parking lot at low speeds. The peak brake pressure is not going to change depending on the speed because the tire grip coefficient stays the same.
Really pleased to learn the rearbrake secret!! I can't touch the thing without locking my rearwheel and as a result never use it either and now know i could become champion without it(in my dreams) Thnx!
Awesome! Always getting best and insightful information from a pro which will always be a mystery if Sylvain hasn't done this. Best channel for riders so far. Thanks a million, Sylvain.

Your explanation is so clear and constructive ! You have an ability to teach absolutly. Great video it is so great to get teaching from a world champion thank you :)
Great stuff Sylvain. Excellent explanation. I understand now why I've never used rear brake on my Panigale 1199 on track. It has a three levels of EBC that smooth down the downshift and help stopping the bike a lot, so I've never had a feeling that I need more braking power using rear brake...Thanks for the video
Very nice material. Lately, I've been thinking about going to a track, but I don't have one bit of experience with riding like that, so this helps a lot. Thank you.
Thanks Sylvain for sharing your racing experience with passion, even for road riders like me, it's useful. Rear break is using more when we are are already into the corner to stabilize the bike as I understood.
That’s very interesting about the rear brake! Being an amputee I don’t have a rear brake. Yes, there are solutions to that but never really had the need for it - in my own opinion. But I, more often than not, get that weird look when I tell people. Still winning plenty of brake duels using only the front brake (and engine break of course). Going to give the doubters a link to this vid! Thanks! 🙂👍🏻
I think it was common for moto gp riders to use very little or no rear brake in the days before anti wheel spin and slipper clutches. Because they would break so hard, many times lifting the rear wheel, that it wasn't necessary. There's a reason behind rear brakes being so tiny. Moto gp bikes can have such a hard hit on acceleration that some riders used rear brake to control wheel spin. Excellent video. Especially after coming from a video by a moto vlogger/"influencer" who got in too fast to a corner on an unfamiliar road, slid into a drainage ditch and said "he had to lay it down" instead of learning how to use his brakes.
Thnx 4 d tutorial sylvain. Greatly appreciated n definitely cleared some questions i got. I remembered kevin schwantz said that he didn't use d rear brake at all during his championship season. Now u explained it all so well n i understand it now. Once again, thnx

Great video, been racing on track for a few years now and never bothered using the rear brake. Friends of mine use it so I always wondered if I should be or not but never bothered and still got good results. This video confirms that it is unnecessary unless at MotoGP level. Thank you !
This is the only video I have seen encourage using engine brake to slow the motorcycle. I am so excited. I used a lot engine brake before stop lines and before tuning to reduce the speed. The reason is because engine brake bring smoother feeling than rear brake and I like the engine brake rev sound. Now I am excising downshifting with rev match, can you teach us when to use downshifting with rev match.
