belinda hawkins What good does a dead body and pottery being put back into the ground do for an extinct tribe? She was a sacrifice, would it not be more humane to honor someone who had their life cut short instead of letting her VERY slowly decay, alone and without appreciation? Perhaps her sacrifice wasn't for her tribe but for the scientists in the future to better understand.
Also, don't let your religious zeal get in the way of the facts. This girl didn't know of the Catholic Church, the rest of her tribe knew little of it if any, and if she did, she would still be sacrificed.

belinda hawkins Actually, from results and evidence gathered from the experiments conducted on her, she was a participant in the sacrifice! There is a fantastic documentary on her, the one this clip is from which is also available for viewing on this channel, where they go into how she died, why she died, and who killed her. For a multitude of reasons, they believe she was one of a few girls who were chosen for sacrifice. If I’m remembering correctly, she was put to sleep with alcohol and entombed. If she had been murdered in a way that was outside of cultural influence, there’s no way she would be so peaceful, and so intact. There would be marks on her body. It’s sad and difficult to understand, but she actively participated in her own death. She really is fascinating. (If I’m wrong about details of her death please correct me, I’m recalling from memory. But it is recent memory so I’m not too concerned about any severe mishaps in recollection)

If you are not as attractive nobody wants to talk to you, and therefore you avoid falling prey to people who want to hurt you or destroy your life. Being unattractive also gives you wisdom since you watch what others are doing around you. You become a better judge of their character.

It is always sad when such a young person dies, but she was likely calm and she was drugged with coca leaves and alcohol. There was not a sense of self in people as it is today, pain or suffering was looked at in a completely different way so your empathy , in relation, is out of place. You hear human sacrifice and there's an image of stereotypical satanic rituals or torture. This simply was not the nature in which she was treated or the "purpose" the offering of her soul served.

I'm okay with people moving her corpse and studying her body to learn more about history. She fell in an exposed place and would have perished if she wasn't found. As fascinating as she is, I think it's absolutely disrespectful to have a dead body put in a glass cage and displayed to visitors like she is some sort of show pony/animal. She is dead, she should be quickly studied privately and buried in a more secure place near her hometown. After all, we are trying to learn more about her culture not how good she looks after 500 years. We have pictures for the latter, let her real body rest in peace...

  • @philiptate8009
    @philiptate8009 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

It may be one thing for her to be discovered, studied, and then placed back in her ceremonial resting place. It is quite another thing to have her permanently removed from her ancient homeland and placed behind glass for all to walk by and peer at. She no longer dwells in that body. She has spiritually moved on. However, her life, her death, was celebrated and mourned (no doubt) and the ceremony surrounding this passing perhaps had great spiritual significance. The desire to learn more should not outweigh the wishes and sacred acts of a culture that placed more value in the process of death than we. She is precious... and the diginity to be found in the care with which she was entombed serves to embarass those who believe it is their right to remove her from her ancient homeland. But surprising that they are not ashamed or embarassed? Not in the least.

    • @Thathestiadevotee

Sadly, placing her back into the spot she was found would likely set her up to have her body stolen and have awful things done to her. Maybe it would be better to set her into a secret location on the same mountain with her belongings like it was intended when she died.

  • @SamYesMartinez

It is so haunting, saddening, that she was sacraficed to a Sun God, and that out of many other sacrafices just like hers, she was discovered so well preserved and has become as fascinating today as she was 500 years ago. Although it is clear she had a tragic ending, it truly is fascinating that she was chosen both 500 years ago and is now serving to open up a culture from 5 centuries ago, to a life she lived and the lives others lived around her. She's truly beautiful.

Many religions are centered around dying for a god, Christianity is the only one centered on God dying for you. It is a completely and totally distinct religion where God is kind, forgiving, loves you, and is working everything together to the point He can walk in person with us again on a new earth that is without sin and shame.
To explain, God and humans (Adam and eve) walked together in the garden of Eden at the beginning of the world, but since they sinned, and God and sin cannot exist together, we are separated from God unless we repent of our sins and accept Jesus as Lord of our lives (meaning we live to do His will, instead of doing what we want, which is the only way to find real meaning in life, and I and everyone in this world and probably you too, have tried to find meaning in everything else and have bren unable too.). All things leading to the point we walk together with God and the other ppl who loved Christ on that new earth without sin and shame.

And even other relatable parts, like the hair. Though the face is in good condition, it does look like the faces of so many dead people that we've seen so many times. With the hair, it's braided, and again it makes you go wow, because somebody actually braided it for her.

Sometimes I wonder if desecrating these mummies is too respectful. Obviously those who buried them meant them to stay there, instead of being displayed as an attraction in a glass.

It's crazy to think back to ancient times of mummies around the world and discovering them. Now with the internet, tv, cameras, videos, etc., we lose that quest for the current generation and onwards. Also makes you think how much more is buried under our feet that hasn't been discovered yet.

i want to think that she was not supposed to be removed from the volcano. like she was sort of a sacrifice in exchange for the protection of her people or something. that to remove her from her burial site would bring dire consequences to the world. i know it sounds stupid but our knowledge of how ancient people think is very limited.

This girl didn't have children, so she can't really be your ancestor. However, it means that your ancestors belonged in her ethnic group.

Put her back! You took her whole purpose of death away. She was put there for a reason and to remain there. It is the mountain that is to take care of her and her to take care of her people and respect of mother earth. If you don't understand, think of your own religion and its beliefs.
