@duragg Just 2 questions? ;P 1) 4.37 R180 (Quaiffe) 2) 1980 280ZX 5spd (needs rebuilding) 3) Very carefully Headers to open air. It was actually not much louder than my 2.5" muffled setup it succeeded (surprisingly). This is because larger pipes are quieter (just look at whistles) and presumably also because of the scavenging. I knocked the muffler off of my stock 2.4L many years ago and it made my ears ring pronto. This race motor didn't (not even close). Not what you'd think!
Chassis - strut braces, carbon fiber hood and hatch. Suspension - Koni yellow 2-way adjustable race struts, 350/300# front/rear springs, heim-joint mounted and fully adjustable front sway bar (no rear bar due to 4.37 Quaiffe ATB R180), camber plates, steering knuckles, bump steer spacer.
It is, but it's nonfunctional. This was literally within 24 hours of assembly, and there was no exhaust pipe (or bung for an O2 sensor). No sensor, no data. I just used my butt dyno.
Out Freaking Standing..!!! I finally got mine tuned and ready for the track.. Going to VIR this Fall to flog the Z. Took it to the Dyno and got 200 at the engine, not as much as you, but good for me to learn on. Also just got a Go Pro so keep an eye out for my videos.. Thanks for all the parts... K
looks like you need some stickier tires. Maybe it's just a whole lotta torque. awesome car dude, I'm in the middle of my 280 build. can't wait until I'm at your point. 👌👍👍
that thing is a beast. iv been wanting to get a Z again i had a chance to get one a few years back for 500 but i didn't have the money right away so the guy sold it to someone else, but recently iv been trying to find one again and build her her up my dream is to make at least 300 hp na out of the l28 stroked and all that good stuff i love na straight 6s lol.
I keep watching your driving videos over again and I have to complement you on your driving skills, the editing and the over all quality of your videos. I really get tired of seeing cars on dynos. don't get me wrong, it has its place but the driving videos especially in the setting of the Ozarks is sweet. By the way, the sound of your car is music. I am guessing your pipes are you built in deer warning device, my luck I would come out with a life size deer hood ornament if I were to try that.
zredbaron240, I was curious what jets you keep after all? I have a very simple 240z and I'm in the jetting processes too. I installed a air/fuel gauge, but it's hard to tell high end what the car wants.
Not sure if that white trailer at 3:37 is yours or not,but if so is it a car trailer or a cargo ?you seem to be out delightfully terrorizing some lone rd...haha I have a 16' cargo trailer like that I pulled my Z around in it a few times and seemed to be ok,but I was a bit paranoid doing it I must say .Just curious..Insane Z by the way ,enjoy man it looks good on ya!
Thanks for getting back to me, man. I drive a 1972 S30 with a stock L24 running a 6-pack of 40mm DCOEs. I’m borrowing it from my brother who had it tuned by a shop at 250’ above sea level. I have it in a different city where we are at 3428’ above sea level, so clearly it’s running pretty rich in this thin air. Can you recommend any carb settings for me?
Alex Renaud if it was running well at sea level, then in general you will need to increase the air corrector to account for altitude. Maybe +20. Also it’s winter now, so the main or idle jet may also want to bump up a bit. I’d start with those and then maybe take a look at the F# for idle jet or emulsion tubes. Luckily a stock L24 should be fairly easy to tune.
@@zredbaron240Thanks, again. I only have the Z out during summer months. I suppose I should just buy a Weber jetting kit and play around with allowing more air. I'll have to look up some videos and whatnot on how to even do that. But i like the idea of using a butt dyno to dial things in. Would also be nice to measure A/F during the test runs, so I might just hook up an O2 sensor just downstream of the headers. Where's the best place to buy the jets (or perhaps a set)?
I have 2 questions: 1) What rear end ratio? 2) Which tranny? 3) How did you get home after torturing your neighbors as such? You running just headers to open air??? (ouch on the ears). My twice pipes behind triples make my ears ring for days.
@factoryman1988 Absolutely not. E85 is not a performance fuel. From Wikpedia: "Another drawback for E85 is that, in a liter-to-liter comparison, E85 has less energy content than conventional gasoline; 30% percent less energy for transportation by volume." This is why fuel economy and horsepower outputs are both worse on E85.
Your car sounds truly amazing! Makes me wanna buy another 240z, go a different route this time, and actually build the L-series instead of swapping in an RB. Sure an RB is damn beastly, but your L sounds raw! keep it commin! *Sub'd
L series with no exhaust this is normal xD had a 510 with just open header and yea it was really fucking loud xD it love screaming down the road at 7000rpm ...... z20s bottom end and l20b head 32 36 weber just the basic bolt ons.......
This looks like about a million different roads in the midwest. I am hoping beyond hope that you live in mid-Missouri, though. Because I want to lose to your car in my Datto. You don't even know how bad. I have wanted women less than I want to race your Devil....
Holy shit, that car sounds like it's mad at the world! I love it!
Devil inside the Devil´s Z. ;)
All how it should be!
Still Love That Devil!
Holy shit. That Z sounds angry as hell
@duragg

I can't even comment on the driving or the car because words escape. What I can comment on is the kickass driving gloves......epic.
I bet that was pure bliss

Please tell me what kind of ignition set up that is. That is sweet and clean...

How did you not get pulled over for any of that? lol, Excellent Z tho
Sounds racey, I love it! Too bad about the camera vibration though.
That isn't an A/F gauge to the right of the steering wheel?
Nice vid love how that rear end steps out
Sounds straight outta of the nes 👌
Holy shit dude!!! I wish I could build and tune a motor to be that responsive and powerful. It just fucking GOES! instantly
Motor sounds great! What kind/brand are those gauges? they look nice!
Fantastic sound!!!!!!!!!!
Did you notice a performance improvement with the stahl header and how did it change your exhaust sound? louder?
so much torque it's scary
What motor you running... I like it
would you mind sharing some info regarding the carbs, what jets, pump jet, idle jet, what size venturis. i have a very similar setup.
Daniel Landeros 40 Dcoe Webers. 36mm venturis. The idle, main and air corrector jets are detailed in the captions around 2/3 through the video.
175 main, 225 air corrector, 65 F8 idle

+Shaun McInnis Thank you. Yes, it''s a 16' cargo trailer. It's a tight fit, but it carries and tows just fine.
Wered you get the stroker kit?
What headers?
At what elevation (above sea level) are you driving the car in this video?
Alex Renaud 1300’

Incredible.
Amazing! What is the cam ?
.565” lift with 324/316 in/ex duration

Love this build, what size primaries is the stahl header running?
Thanks! I went with the 1 5/8" primaries instead of the 1 3/4" to help with mid-throttle torque rather than max hp at WOT. (Dedicated autox car.)
Nov 2018 loved it!
Hey why not try AWD on that thing? It must run great!
Yunnie Yong lol

AutoMeter's Carbon Fiber series.
wow! very nice!! na stroker all the way!
We want more videos!
brutal!
Why cant I live next to someone like you...

Good ol' fashioned NA L6.
