      In my opinion, yes it definitely would help but, I only show what is theoretical & I always say in all videos that things can be improved with tinkering :)
      I don't show it normally because I test so many games & time is not something I have to spare :)
      This is an older video now so a lot of the flaws have been cleaned up since this version & starting with season 7, If I do find I had to modify anything to get a game to work via adjustable settings, I'll mention it but, ultimately this channel is not dedicated to fixing every issue that may crop up during videos, that'll be for you to experiment with :)
      Of course the internet is your best friend if you do need help with getting games to work properly or better on emulation!

    I have a special soft spot for the games of the DC/PS2/GC/Xbox gen. The 3D capabilities got a huge boost over the previous gen, but it was still the pre-HD era, so budgets weren't too high and game devs could take more risks. I know DC and GC emulation is great, and PS2 emulation is looking good now too (I hear Xbox still needs a lot of work). Nice video

      my favorite gaming generation for all the same reasons. just enough freedom to keep everything fresh and just enough limitations to keep game devs inventive. i also find that because they were made for 480p and 720p, usually games from that era have better art styles and telegraph themselves better

  • @andree1991
    @andree1991 3 ปีที่แล้ว +35

    Ps2 era was the best console gen because devs were willing to push the console to the absolute max and to work with its limitations by focusing on gameplay and artstyle and music. If the console can't handle your vision graphically, then make the game fun as F. And thats why this console was the best ever. The only thing that stands toe to toe with the ps2 is the ps1 😂

    • @TheAffroShowGameplay
      @TheAffroShowGameplay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    you can eliminate blurs and screen shakes in pcsx2 by set deinterlacing to none in gsdx and disable texture filtering of display in shaders configuration tab, and set wait vsync on refresh to standard in window configuration. these are common errors that majority of users have. and also there are "no-interlacing" patches avaliable in pcsx2 forums to remove interlacing permanently.

      @@TheAffroShowGameplay i think i gave you some mixed up information. disable interlacing is only for games thats has any means to activate progressive scan, like ingame menu, boot button combo, or no-interlacing pnach patches. but for games that has no progressive scan by any method you should use bob tff. sorry for the confusion. and disabling screen filter only useful if you also disable texture filtering (nearest) and dont mind pixelated textures. and one last thing is to avoid odd resolution multiplier like 3x and 5x if you are running non progressive games.

    I think I love the PS2 so much because of the way the architecture is set up. It is literally a PS1 on steroids made to compete with next generation PC vertex shaders employed in the Xbox and Gamecube (GC TEV was able to create the same effects as PC vertex shaders). The PS2s VPUs could create vertex shader like effects on software which is amazing. I think the main downfall (in design) was its release date of early 2000 because they couldn't put more ram on it an looking back the thing I love the most about the PS2 also made it really hard to program and create games in 2000/2001 until better tools came out. I am still amazed at the games that came out in 2001 though, GTA3, MGS2, Silent Hill 2, Ace Combat 4, FFX

      @@TheAffroShowGameplay I prefer to play PS1 games on emulator but PS2 on console. Some PS2 games take alot of resources to emulate (eg Valkyrie Profile 2) it is still too cost intensive,i feel like wasting my PC hardware and it doesn't make use of the GPU, not really anyway. And with PS1 games the improvement you get graphic wise is much bigger (and more needed).
      Then you have the issue that some PS2 games dont emulate well enough (Marvel vs Capcom 2) But i love emulators and PCSX2 is still awesome, its really impressive and i appreciate the designers putting so much time in it. Also the PSP emulator is great too.

    I can't recall ever having a problem running DOA2, other than the fact that the voices didn't work, which was a known problem.
    As for the sky not showing up in Black, the same thing happens in many of the Burnout games, so it might be worth trying the fix that works in those games: Press F9 while in the menus to switch to software rendering, then start the game. Once in the game, press F9 again to switch back to hardware rendering. If it works, it should stay fixed for that session.
    This fix also works on the game Portal Runner to fix some missing graphics.

      @@TheAffroShowGameplay I'd be curious if it works for Black. I know it works in Burnout 3, Burnout Revenge and Burnout Dominator as well as Portal Runner.
      The Burnout games have a black sky if you don't do this before you start the game, but once you do, it stays fixed for that session. BTW, you don't need to do it right at the start for it to work. If you forget and start the game, you can quit to the menu and then do it before starting the game again.
      In Portal Runner, I believe the gems were missing textures and when using the bow, the aiming reticle didn't show up.

To reduce micro stuttering just enable vsync in pcsx2 settings put it to standard, if you have any glitches in games i would suggest opengl software and put threads to how much your CPU have threads. That's the most easiest explanation I can give for overall settings in pcsx2, and to get that real ps2 image turn on scanlines in shader configuration.If anybody need help and detailed tutorial on this matter I can make one.Lets just say i know a thing or two about emulation.Hope it helps

    You gotta apply the CRT Shader option because the PS2 was played on a CRT TV back then. The graphic will never look good unless it's viewed as the creator intended.

    • @TheAffroShowGameplay
      @TheAffroShowGameplay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't agree since I love the PS2 & playing it on my OSSC or the PCSX2 emulator is great & looks pretty good!
      If it's not for you or you like the CRT look no problem but, I like how it looks personally:)

    • @Dronetothetop
      @Dronetothetop 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheAffroShowGameplay Of course it's all relative and personal taste but blowing up the res to 4k for ps2 games look so unnatural because the character and the background doesn't blend in (CRT shader helps). For PS3 games, it is quite ok because that's the era when we start using HD TVs & panels. But if you enjoy whatever that your doing I guess that's ok too.

  • @VergilHiltsLT

    You missed one of the biggest flaws on PCSX2 - input lag. And you can't solve this, the only way to get rid of it is to use software renderer, which means being stuck at native PS2 res + even worse image quality. So for faster, more reflex-intensive games like Devil May Cry, it's a huge deal breaker.
    Also, why the hell are you using bob deinterlacing with OSSC? It makes everything flicker and look super jaggy. My suggestion would be getting a TV with a built-in deinterlacer and using Passthrough. My Sony Bravia looks fantastic, and playing games on real PS2 hardware straight off HDD with OPL is amazing.
    PCSX2 does allow higher resolutions, sure, but haven't you noticed the washed out colours on all games you reviewed? Or the shadows rendering incorrectly (blocky shadows) in DOA2? (2:29)
    Again, yes, PCSX2 does improve the resolution, but it also makes everything look flat and dull, adds input lag on Hardware modes, and some games look completely different, have missing/incorrect textures, post-processing and other stuff that really hurts the overall look. Games like MGS3, DMC3, God of War, Matrix: Path of Neo and so on are particularly affected. That's due to OpenGL/DirectX renderer's poor handling of PS2 graphics.

    • @TheAffroShowGameplay
      @TheAffroShowGameplay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just to let you know that in my personal experience using the Vulcan API, I didn't experience input lag at all :)
      I'm not saying there wasn't any & I'm sure it'll depend on a number of factors but these games never once felt laggy, the same for my updated video on this same topic :)
      I did notice the colour washed out but again, in my newer video I corrected that to a better extent :)
      I love real PS2 Hardware too, hence why I'm glad to have decent deinterlacing via OBS through the OSSC I use on my 4K TV :)
      PCSX2 is not perfect but it's the best PS2 emulator for now :o

    • @VergilHiltsLT
      @VergilHiltsLT 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheAffroShowGameplay Wait, PCSX2 has Vulkan? Since when?
      Also, I'm pretty sure any Hardware renderer causes input lag regardless, whether it's DirectX, OpenGL or Vulkan - no difference. :)
      You not experiencing input lag doesn't negate the fact it exists, or may exist. Particularly if you're playing slower, easier games, or 30 FPS titles - you may not feel it. Try something faster like God Hand or Devil May Cry 3, these games require high precision and reflexes, thus input lag is killer. I've played both for quite a few years on PCSX2 and have only recently discovered just how much my gameplay was impacted by the lag, it's a serious bottleneck in one's ability. The moment I switched to software renderer, losses turned to victories, as I felt the inputs sync completely with the on-screen action. You may barely feel it, but it's a huge deal in any game requiring skill and speed.

    • @TheAffroShowGameplay
      @TheAffroShowGameplay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it does support it :)
      As I said in my comment, I didn't feel or notice it but as I also said that doesn't mean lag isn't there :)
      I've played all sorts of games that were both faced paced or slower placed & not once did I feel input lag but that's probably just me.
      Maybe I'm less susceptible to or something but, take what I say with a grain of salt :)

    • @VergilHiltsLT
      @VergilHiltsLT 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheAffroShowGameplay I guess you haven't been playing enough. :) When you play something like DMC3 on Very Hard, New Game, Turbo mode (which speeds up the game by 20%, thus narrowing your windows of opportunity and forcing to play faster), and you know your skills by heart, losing an encounter you could totally win on software mode is more than enough evidence to suggest the lag is there.
      I also advise looking up PCSX2 input lag videos on TH-cam, I believe there's one with God Hand. Someone tested real hardware vs PCSX2 and the difference is game-changing. Hardware modes feel really sluggish. But for slow games like Silent Hill, the difference is negligible.
      I've been using PCSX2 since 2014 but have ditched it since I got OSSC. The glitches and rendering mismatches are no more. :)
