    In Europe you should forget RGB Scart. I’ve never seen a TV that support 480p through it. I have a RGB Scart official ps2 and it looks great on 480i but not worth overall

      @TheAffroShowGameplay วันที่ผ่านมา

      @theneedforspeeder9575 Actually, you shouldn't because now even if the TV doesn't properly support it, upscalers do, making it ideal for HDTV's to take advantage of this feature :) Admittedly, Component is easier since many TV's did support it using 480p but don't discredit RGB, it is very viable & much cheaper than Component in today's world :)

      @goticogordo Sadly, this is the case as the mod is not easy to perform & because the supply is limited, you have to pay a premium for it 🫣 I got lucky & paid only £180 when I got mine, but now they cost £280 + here! I love the PS2, it was the console that got me through High School. It near and dear to my heart. But there's still few things that need to be addressed. Most PS2 games only support up to 480i NTSC or 576i PAL. Only maybe 40 or 50 games support 480P. Only one game supports 1080i. Another is thing is even if you get Scart or Component cables for the PS2. Yes the games will look better, but won't blow you away, like the other consoles will. The Dreamcast through VGA, looks beautiful, The Gamecube through Component looks ridiculously good, and Xbox looks amazing through Component. It strange that the PS2 doesn't clean up well, but it is what it is.

    • @TheAffroShowGameplay
      @TheAffroShowGameplay 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You've made some very good points so, allow me to address them the best I can :) Here goes: 1. Yes the PS2's library is definitely mostly made up of games only outputting at 480i or 576i which means deinterlacing is a factor when trying to get the best out of PS2 video output. 2. I think I saw that there was 118 games with 480p Progressive scan support although the PAL versions of games dropped this to around 80, still this is a small sample when you consider 4000 PS2 games were officially released! Luckily, you can force 480p or 1080i in the GS Mode Selector via Free MCBoot although results will vary from game to game :) 3. The Dreamcast, Gamecube & Original XBOX can look amazing definitely but their options differ depending on Regions. The Dreamcast can use VGA on all regions but the Gamecube & XBOX higher resolution modes are only available for NTSC consoles only. If you want the same for the PAL models, you must mod them, also Gamecube component cables are very expensive, making it harder for people to access it on real hardware. 4. I actually feel PS2 graphics improve a lot with good S-Video, Component or RGB SCART cables but the low resolution can hide this. Also look out for flicker filters, this can blur the visuals a lot & turning it off will improve image quality greatly! Hope this helps answer your comment :)

    • @eupher2
      @eupher2 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@TheAffroShowGameplay All I was trying to say is the PS2 just doesn't have good image quality, compared to the compilation. Nobody seems to know why that is. I thought the Xbox supported component, and up to 1080i all regions. I guess I was wrong about that. The Gamecube from what I understand Nintendo disabled the Digital A/V port on PAL Gamcubes. So SCART is the best there. But another thing I forgot is the Digital A/V port was removed on later Gamecubes.

    • @TheAffroShowGameplay
      @TheAffroShowGameplay 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @eupher2 It definitely does somewhat suffer depending on the game tested, so you are not wrong with your assessment of the PS2 graphics output :) I thought this until I got one & found out the hard way with my PAL model, had to buy a modified one! That's correct & sadly 480p was only supported via Component on the Gamecube, RGB SCART only supports 480i/576i on PAL versions. Amazing what we are finding out about the retro consoles!

    • @eupher2
      @eupher2 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@TheAffroShowGameplay Your right about that. For example, Who would have thought the Atari Jaguar had RGB SCART support? Granted you have to have a custom cable made to use it. But it has it.

    • @TheAffroShowGameplay

    Thank you for this info.😊 I actually have two of the accessories shown in your video .the Logitech component cable and the red and blue obscaler for my fat ps2 Would you recommend getting the svideo connector instead of using the component cable?

    • @TheAffroShowGameplay
      @TheAffroShowGameplay 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ripmowt Anytime & glad you enjoyed 😊 As for your question, bear in mind Component will look better by default with clearer & shaper graphics & then it will support 480p & 1080i video outputs whereas S-Video tops out at 480i/576i :) Component will also have better colour output as well :) I will say for PS1 or low resolution output, Component can struggle without an upscaler on modern displays, S-Video will just work across the board :) The decision will be up to you & what you want out of the PS2 :)

    • @TheAffroShowGameplay

      @AshesHereos Yes they will :) However, in the past I noticed difficulty getting them to show a picture since Component struggles to display 240/288p resolution so, if you use a HDMI solution (OSSC, Retrotink for example), boost the resolution to at least 2x mode & you'll get a picture everytime without any problems :)

    The best way to play on a modern display atm, is honestly a retrotink... but its not going to be for everybody due to price, and how casual you are about playing. Not to mention a hefty investment in the hobby you love. If you enjoy tweaking settings to an insane degree, look no further than the RT. Having a nice modern display is also important depending on game and console. Its a weird balance trying to find the best of all worlds depending on the situation and console. Certain CRT/PVM's will make all your 4th/5th gen games look insanely good, while most 6th gen games (Ps2) will look better on HDTVs for the most part (modern or older), but can also look the same or better on certain CRT/PVM's if you what you're doing. Either way, youll have to experiment with alot of setups, and its all preference at the end of the day. If you have multiple retro consoles/games and have no interest playing on CRT's, I recommend looking into a Retrotink. But it can also be overkill for many, even if you just want the picture to look as best as possible. Otherwise, a good Component cable will suffice in 90% of use cases. But depending on how modern the display is, it may not even have component inputs. Forcing you to get an adapter or uscaler anyway. Just make sure you dont cheap out, and you get the best quality cables you can. If you have good cables and the picture still isnt up to snuff, invest in a nicer display. The cheap adapters/HDMI upscalers are never worth it imo. Honestly you wil just have to try a few different setups to see which method works best for your needs. Do your research.

    What's interesting is, I have been using ReDream for a number of years, but not all games are supported. I also had another emulator called RetroArch that I use to play older consoles, like Atari, Genesis, NES, etc. One day I was bored and I directed RetroArch to the Dreamcast ROM folder and played Marvel vs Capcom 2. I expected an error. Instead, an emulator engine called Flycast for Dreamcast opened the game and it played. There were major differences. I tried other games, such as Soul Calibur and Resident Evil: Code Veronica. I noticed that the games played in RetroArch had deeper, arcade-like colors. ReDream had anti-aliased graphics. For example, take MvC2. The backgrounds are 3D generated while the characters are sprites. In Retroarch, the background 3D had jagged edges, but the sprites were as pixel perfect as you could possibly want and expect. If you play the same game in ReDream the background rendered images have perfectly smooth edges and looks crisp. But the sprites have dulled, smeared, rounded edges. Which at first I didn't care about, except that if you select Spider-Man, the webbing on his outfit is gone. The red is flat colored with shading. I used think this was normal. But on RetroArch, you can see the webbing in the red outfit. Now, from my understanding, the Dreamcast didn't use anti-aliasing. However, the difference between the Arcade version of Soul Calibur had jagged edges but the Dreamcast version has smooth edges. Curious.

    I recently started using a GDEMU-modded Japanese Dreamcast. I’ve got a CRT TV (for light gun games) connected with a standard RGB SCART cable, and an LCD monitor that supports up to 1600x1200 with a regular VGA cable. I’m not planning to use a modern display with HDMI or a scaler. Is this the best setup I can get? (with these displays) Should I bother with that pricey RGB SCART cable? am I missing anything?

    • @TheAffroShowGameplay
      @TheAffroShowGameplay 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You have a good setup for both situations I feel :) The only advantage to the pricey cable is you can use both standard resolutions and 480p VGA mode using a SCART cable and there's a switcher to change the modes :) It means you only need one cable for both functions instead of having two separate cables :) I don't think you need it but for me it helped with convince since if I played a game without VGA support, I can just change the switcher's position instead of changing the cable type :)

      @@TheAffroShowGameplay Thanks for the reply! Do you know if it’s possible to get both VGA out (to an LCD TV) and RGB SCART out (to a CRT) without having to swap cables from the Dreamcast’s rear port? What would I need for that?

    Besides the differences already noted ePSXe has a much higher tendency to crash than DuckStation and overclocking is where DuckStation's real advantage lies in, since Duckstation is using dynamic recompilation vs the interpreter that's used on ePSXe, the performance difference is massive the more you want to push what the PS1 could've been capable of, for example, say you want to run the PS1 Quake 2 port at 60 FPS, on ePSXe you can probably get roughly 40 FPS on a good scenario with a really good CPU, on DuckStation you can easily get 60 FPS on much weaker hardware Edit: forgot to mention, cheats that improve visuals beyond what's normally possible, you used Gran Turismo 2 in this video, what you didn't show was that DuckStation has a cheat that once combined with overclocking makes it seem like ePSXe is running a whole generation behind because you can make GT2 have: 60 FPS, widescreen, higher draw distance and have every car run at its highest possible quality, the difference is honestly insane

    • @TheAffroShowGameplay
