I was the admin for towboaters and what we do, our bulletin board, on Facebook. I worked on boats and as a shore tankerman for about 20 years. I started with Coastal towing in November of 97 and went to Bouchard for about 2.3 years in 2000 to about 2002. Got fed up with the industry and tried a shore job but the money made me go back. I got my 2nd issue on my license and started with capital towing then went to blessey for a few years, then shore tanked for petroleum services for a while. They used me to finish jobs and disconnect so I told them to fuck themselves and went to work for Florida marine. I bounced a round. Started on black oil and was on an asphalt contract for a year then finally did gasoline and what a difference. I training guys who really payed me some good compliments. I made mistakes and learned from them but I loaded and discharged lots of barges all over, from Brownsville to Florida, New Orleans to St. Paul, Pittsburgh, up the Missouri River to I think sluice city Iowa, Decatur Alabama. Made a shit load of locks, painted boats and saw some places only people like us will see. I enjoyed the adventure of dealing with whatever life thru at us for the 28 days we were out there
My trainer at the school said the same thing about the bath tub, you forgot to say if you make a mistake at work you can cause some bad damage to you or the environment.
I've been an OS deckhand for 4 years and am looking into getting my AB. I'm very interested in becoming a tankerman and would like to know how to get my foot in the door for training.
I’ve been an OS Deckhand/Engineer Trainee aboard Tugboats for a year at Moran and I’m looking into getting my AB soon and my Tankerman too so I can work on ATBs. Thanks for the info!
How much is the salary average you can earn and where we can get training on this matter..? Greetings from Chesapeake, Virginia, The United States of America.
Tankerman actually do alot more than physical, paper, and maintenance work. You apparently have no clue about it. You must be one of those that floats off another's work!! Of course it's easy for someone like you. Question is for the poor fellas having to put up with you.. WHO'S DOING THE REAL WORK?!?

False information
Can females do this job?
Yes
It’s hard work. If you don’t want to turn into one of the guys do something else.
