Aw how lovely, we had to help a chick out of his egg earlier this week, we have vlogged it on our channel, but the poor thing has cross beak and we think also blind, such a lovely little thing we have called Quasi'Mo'Chick

We got some of these too. Boy were they rough. Had never seen grass nor daylight as their combs were pale. We could not tell at first but the very tip of their beak was clipped. It did not seem to bother them. After a couple of weeks, they looked much better. Good luck!
Yes same with ours very pale combs and snipped beaks. I’ve read the beaks could grow back and hope they do with time. I’m sure they’ll be good to go after some fresh air and sunlight! Thanks for watching!
Id say the best place to start would be searching facebook for a local farm swap group. There are quite a few groups like that in Kentucky. Lots of helpful people in those groups that are local to you!
Love it 🥰 the girls will be happy. I don't know what breed you have but from my experience with battery hens is they never stop laying for 4 years, if looked after properly. At one point I gave the ones I had calf manna, to help bring their feathers back. It was good for them but because they never stopped laying, it still took them a long time to come out of a molt. Their poor little bodies were just over worked making eggs. But the girls I had lived to be about 4 and a half years. Their egg shells get thin and this causes problems for them in the 4th year so be prepared. Or maybe you will have better luck with them ;) In n e case they will be happy on grass for sure.
We’re excited to watch them get healthy. Hopefully since the days are still short they will break from laying for a short period to speed up the process. But it wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t stop being that’s all they’ve done non stop for a year now. Either way we will take good care of them!
I happened to stumble upon a post in a local chicken swap group on Facebook. They called him “the chicken man”😅 But they cost $5 a hen and they are all 14 months old which is super cheap in my opinion but they will need a little TLC. They laid 34 eggs day 1 then down to 12 now down to about 6. So I think them being out in the elements and finally being off of 24 hours of light is making them slow down laying which will hopefully help them recover a little faster. As far as worming etc. commercial hen houses usually do all the vaccinations already because it’s such a high density environment they live in. We will give them DE in their food anyways and that should help with prevention of any worming along the digestive tract. Thanks for watching!

Just search chicken swap or farmers market on fb and see if you can find a local one to you! You may be able to ask around at your local farmers market too.

How did you hear about the rehoming event and how much did each girl cost? Do you delouse and worm them before introducing them to your home flock?
