    EDIT: Yards PLXC is in stock RIGHT NOW, it's going to be gone ASAP.
    Sorry for the delay. This video is over 3mo old.
    FYI: I'm still using this scope now (along side the scope switch). It really is my favorite LPVO.

      I'm really thinking that this lpvo with the mil reticle will suit me well on my ak103. It's light weight, has a good 1x and really just checks all the boxes im looking for in my first lpvo. Although I do want to get a 4x posp to mess around with a test out for myself, since there really aren't any good reviews on it.

    Great vid Brass Facts!
    I had the griffin mil version of the PLxC 1-8. I liked it, but returned it because I was losing illumination on recoil (SR-15 Upper). Simple defect I assume.
    When I had it, I compared it to my buddy's Vortex Razor 1-6SFP Gen II-e and the Vortex was more comfortable to get behind and more usable for me. As C_DOES and BF have mentioned the slight difference between the scope focus at 1 vs 8 power bothered me enough to look for other options. This was my first LPVO to provide some context, but I figured I would put this comment up here.
    Overall its a cool scope (weight & price) but I wasn't in love with it. PA customer service was awesome and I look forward to getting more products from them.

    I think one of the reasons that LPVOs are so ideal on a 5.56 AR is that the ideal range for a 1-8 LPVOs is 25-600 yards. (Really more 50 yards on the low but who cares) this also lines up really well 5.56 ballistically where 25-500 is going to be relatively flat shooting and still have enough energy on target. You can push it to 700 with the rounds and a 1-8 but it's going to struggle.

    100 % right . Plx c with the M8 raptor is the best. I was saying a year ago.
    The complex M8 reticle is the only reason why I would use an lpvo. If I wanted something simple, I would just stay with the Red Dot with the 6X magnifier. In that case I can remove the magnifier at night for a lighter gun. If I'm going to carry a pound and a half on top of the gun, it better have a complex reticle that gives me lots of information.

    Good stuff. I think the weak illumination deserves a mention in context of 1x performance. Like you point out in the beginning, folks want LPVOs to function as an 'almost red dot' on 1x. The reticle features that help draw your eye to the center are useful, but a super bright dot is useful-er. I had a NX8 for a while and couldn't get over some of its flaws, but really appreciated the brightness of the reticle. I'm not a huge Vortex fan, but the Razors shine in the brightness feature, which is a huge plus at 1x. In this price bracket, I think I'd still opt for a Gen 2-e over the PLXC for the 1x performance + brightness. The weight savings and extra 2x are big pluses for the PA, but I can get over an LPVO being SFP as I'm typically gonna crank up to max mag on an LPVO if I'm shooting far enough to need hold data.

    That giant chevron (and chevrons in general) just ruin it for me. It blocks so much of your sight picture when trying to shoot in the 200-300 yard/meter range with wind. But I do appreciate that PA finally added tall crosshairs that help you find the center on 1x without illumination.

    Maybe it was just my PLx but from 0-10 yards I couldn’t adjust the diopter correctly to have both the reticle and the lens image clear at 1x. Went to the NX8 and it’s 1x benefits outweigh the eye box negatives with zero blurry image.

    Trying to decide between this and the Razor Gen III 1-10.. right now I'm thinking that the PLXc's strengths don't really make up for where it's lacking.
    Like one strength you pointed out is how it has a great 1x field of view and stadia that extend all the way out, BUT the illumination is not bright enough to match a red dot. Another is how it has 8x power BUT its reticle is really busy and most likely annoying to use.
    In my mind, if I'm getting an LPVO to replace my more traditional setup, which is an acog/piggybacked red dot combo, it NEEDS to have three key things:
    -a great 1x that is bright enough to be on par with red dots. if it can be that bright, then to me that gives it enough advantage (through allowing a full cheekweld rather than having to chinweld my piggyback) that it is worth the trade of having to work a magnification dial every time I want to change my view. Same reasoning behind that as people like yourself's reason for liking Elcan Spectres. If it isn't going to be red dot bright, I would much rather use piggyback red dot for close range, personally. I want as little delay in aquiring the center of the reticle as is possible since 1x and red dots are for up close and personal, where speed comes first in gunfights. And nothing beats a red dot as far as the eye's speed in finding it.
    -a good high magnification view that makes it desirable over my acog on all points; more zoom that allows me to see better at distance--meaning close or equal glass clarity as Trijicon is needed, and a FFP BDC reticle that is still fairly usable at full power (I can be a little forgiving of a tighter eyebox at max magnification)
    -more useful info provided through the reticle than an acog does (WITHOUT being busy) including a quick autorange silhouette measuring reference, BDC lines and wind holds.

    By far my favorite LPVO. I think the glass quality is excellent throughout. LPVO's always come with compromises.
    The main issue that is draws complaints about this LPVO is the lack of daylight brightness. True - the illumination is pretty bad. I dont find it necessary to be daylight bright in most applications.
    With that said I have an offset red dot on both of my rifles with the PA PLX-C. So I have redundant 1x.

  • @BuckFoeJiden
    @BuckFoeJiden ปีที่แล้ว +3

    While your breakdown of what an LPVO should be used for makes a lot of sense, I slightly disagree for my own personal use case.
    The 1x effectively functions as an "in case" option. I typically keep my 1-8x locked in at 4x with a top dot for when I need to break off of magnification and make quick shots.
    This probably comes from mg experience as a deer hunter 🤷‍♂️ even on my bolt action, I've run a top mounted dot over a 4-12x duplex scope for years, and I've shot more bucks within 35 yards using the dot than I have through the scope beyond that.
    The only time I crank down to 1x is if I'm training CQB, and my scope's 1x is really more of a 0.9x. If I'm using it for CQB, I'll have time to adjust precisely to a true 1x 🤷‍♂️ if I dont have that time, I'm using the top dot. The 8x is obviously for distance shooting. Self explanatory.
    I also believe FFP is wasted on an LPVO. A good horseshoe + chevron/dot SFP reticle with a minimalist BDC/ranging tree accurate at max magnification is more than enough, and SFP scopes also tends to cut cost. By a lot.
    My training rifle runs the UTG 1-8x SFP BG4 LPVO, and aside from the weak illumination, I find it every bit as useful as the Vortex and Primary Arms LPVOs I have on my safe queens.
    A top dot isnt a fix for a piss poor 1x, but for the weight penalty you pay and the benefits you get in return, everyone should run one. Especially once you start playing around with your zeroes, factoring in the additional height over bore.
    I run a +5" height top dot on my SPR build with a PA SLX 4-14x44, 20" barrel. Running M193, I routinely make 9-10/10 shots on 12x12 steel targets as far out as 300 yds using a 75 yd zero. Its almost a cheat code. Whatever your dot touches anywhere from 0 to 300, with that zero, you're hitting in the vitals box.

      @Lost_Achaean a little more harsh than I would have put it, but yes. I agree.
      Plus he's selling a product, and focusing on its strong points. Not that I know or care if there's anything transactional between him and Primary Arms, I just assume all product reviews are trying to sell something 🤷‍♂️
      I get a lot of good info from this channel, but I disagree heavily with his LPVO philosophy. Doesn't necessarily mean he's wrong, it might work well for him.
      Rifles are tools. Set your tools up to work best for you. 🤷‍♂️

    • @BuckFoeJiden
      @BuckFoeJiden ปีที่แล้ว

      @Lost_Achaean Appreciate it bud.
      Both times I deployed, my unit mostly ran ACOGs or dots. I found the piggyback dot to be very effective.
      Honestly, if I had to recommend a good budget setup to someone looking for a jack of all trades optics lineup, I'd steer them towards a Shepherd Optics Rugged 3-9x40 in R22 reticle.
      You're looking at roughly a $250-300 scope with a very usable reticle, great glass for the money and just short of Nightforce, Swarovski or Zeiss tier optic quality. Their Rugged 1-8x LPVO in R-Mil is a great scope for the $350-$400 range as well.
      With their 3-9x, a solid budget mount and a Holosun 407c X2, you're up and running for $600 or so. That 3-9x, for the price, beats out any 2.5-10x I've had my hands on.

      I just realized I posted this in the wrong comments section 🤣
      I'm currently working on an ultralight build using a TN Arms Co polymer lower, moe fixed stock, SWFA ultralight 2.5-10x and a Midwest Industries ultra lightweight 12.6" handguard. I'll be running an ballistic advantage 14.7" pencil profile, pinned & welded with a YHM T2 Turbo flash hider/suppressor combo.
      I'm debating on which light to run. I've had good luck on my trainer with an Inforce dual output light, and with it being a polymer housing, it'd fit in well with the lightweight build. It'd also save me about $300 over a Surefire haha.
      I'll most likely run a top mounted Holosun 407c x2.
      The whole rifle, loaded, should weigh around 8-8.5 lbs with the can.
      I could probably squeeze it down to < 8 lbs by ponying up for some titanium parts, like the BCG and gas block... and running a carbine weight buffer. but I'm pretty happy with how it handles without the suppressor as it is.
      Frankly, I wish my M4 had been build just like it. Even if the optic doesn't have the best glass.

    See this scope was made for people like me, im weird because i like reticles that most people would call "busy" and im not a fan of very barebones reticles. Your main gripe is my biggest selling point. It gives me a "donut of death" on a good 1x and then if i dial in for a more precise shot i have the reticle to assist in that extra precision.
    It also helps that i live in a *VERY* green world instead of a reddish-brown one so i dont need as much contrast to highlight my reticle.
    This might be the "perfect" LPVO for people who do live in a "green" world.

    I’m so glad you mentioned the elcan. When I hear you say “THE F***ING ONE EXXXXXXX” combined with “i spent most of my time at 3-4x,” my very first thought was …. Why don’t companies try to make an elcan ? Rather, why not a vortex razor 1x / 4x elcan competitor, why not a Trijicon Acog with a 1x hidden inside that Thang? Also, why not use the Acog glass in a magnifier? I held my TA31 up to my UH-1 gen 2 and was blown away at how much better it looked than any other magnifier i had ever seen (the crooked half upside down bit I could see made the holographic reticle look ridiculously good with that Japanese glass, and we could get such a high quality magnifier image to solve this perpetual 1x + 3-4x problem if other companies won’t emulate the elcan specter d.r., which is seriously like cherry picking the very best parts out of the very best LPVO you’ve ever seen and putting them in one optic, or maybe think of it like an ACOG with a great variant of the crosshair reticle with a daylight bright dot, that also magically retains that same ACOG glass quality and reticle when it shrinks back to 1x.
    All roads lead back to elcan despite my rambling. Surely though, you see my point about how you essentially highlighted the ways it’s like an Elcan as the selling points, then sort of gave us the bad news about how it’s actually an Lpvo outside of its 1x and 3-4x, but with a worse reticle. And with no discounts and a Scalarworks mount, it’s gonna be pretty GOL DURN close to the $1900 Eurooptics price on the elcan. I still want to try this now but ACOGs, Elcans, and EXPS3’s/UH1’s with nice magnifiers have solidified my confusion about why we love LPVO’s so much. I
    Got a 1-10 vudu and I disliked it so much that I literally remember feeling like my first Lpvo (when I thought I was about to love them and almost did because it was( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), a vortex viper PST 1-6 , which was way better than the vudu 1-10 from all my memories.
    I guess I’m just saying I wish that the elcan wasn’t one off and that companies would recognize what you’re saying about LPVO’s- we want them to have red dot / reflex optic quality 1x, and a usable mid range magnification power, like a TA31/TA11. I’m rambling still. Elcan elcan elcan (acog+509T) elcan elcan elcan

  • @GetMeThere1
    @GetMeThere1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm no longer a "believer" in the LPVO. IMO they're the sort of thing which SEEMS like it should answer all questions, but I don't believe practical reality supports that. First, they "want" to do all jobs, but a single optic SIMPLY CANNOT accomplish that. Thus, they're crappy as a substitute red dot, and crappy as a substitute longer range scope. Add the fact that you really MUST have some sort of back-up sighting system -- and a good example of which is an offset red dot. But then, with THAT, you no longer need the 1X scope. My vote is for a 3x to 5x prism scope, with an offset red dot.Then, you CAN do most things you want, within 300-400 yards, and yes, while it takes two optics, they're only a slight "swivel" away, and DO NOT REQUIRE taking your hands off the rifle. Plus, you already have a back-up sight, too. If that's not enough, then replacing the 3x to 5x prism with something like....the Athlon Helos BTR 2-12 x 44 FFP scope will allow you to range, focus/parallax, and holdover/turret WITH full illumination for ranging and holdovers in low light -- and again, you still have your back-up. Oh, and one more thing: it's much trickier to trust your LPVO as a "real" red dot because none of them have the battery life (or, mostly, the brightness) on which to base your confidence.

    Now that im done with that run on sentence, id say its way too busy. It may work for bench rest shooters but not practical for defense

    If primary arms is listening: make a LPVO with these qualities and will be an absolute game changer:
    1. Same excellent 1x
    2. Same size and weight
    3. Aimpoint bright!!
    4. Top magnification of 4x! That is plenty and will help eyebox / scope performance. Magnification wars of LPVOs are losing sight of what the purpose is to the detriment of the performance.
    5. Less busy reticle. Preferably the horseshoe with bdc drops.
    6. Capped turrets
    7. Clear cross hairs like the schmidt and bender
    8. Oh yeah and must be FFP
