    My father-in-law made me a rolling island. We added an electrical set of outlets in a strip that had a plug in it and it just keyholed to the side. The paper towel is a nice idea. He made a slit in the top side and we put an ice cube holder underneath for a scrap ketcher for peelings. We addded a wrap rack to the door. We took it outside also. We took an old cookbook and decopaged recipies to the top. There was a place to hang a cutting board.

    How wonderful. You remind me of my Dad. When he went to take our trash to the dump, he'd always come back with something else. It would be like some old broken dresser and we'd say "why did you get that?" and he'd say "don't you see it? It's a sewing machine cabinet for your grandmother". Then about a week later - yep, sewing machine cabinet.
    Keep on seeing what's not there and making it become real. You have a gift!

  • @floofypurplefluff9924
    @floofypurplefluff9924 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I am absolutely impressed! It really turned out not only beautiful, but functional!
    A couple ideas:
    1. Since wood is so expensive, it’s a shame to cut off so much of the end of the cutting board. What if you left the length (extending the desk top with wood scraps around just the carved edges - no one would know it wasn’t solid wood across because the cutting board hides it!). Then move the paper towel holder underneath that end, with the cutting board over top keeping your paper towels dry. Or, you could put hooks for coffee mugs or big soup ladles, spoons, etc.
    2. Rather than completely enclosing the spice rack, perhaps put “rails” on both sides of the spice rack so no matter where you stood against the table on that side, you could see what you had. To keep things tidy, you could order a bunch of cute jars with printable labels. For example, you’d print “Garlic Powder” twice, once for each side of the spice jar so you could read the contents from either side of the jar while it was still in the rack.
    I am srsly impressed by this piece. Great job!!

    As always a fantastic result. You are a legend working out everything. If you build one again the new top could stay the original length instead of cutting it down. The paper towel or tea towel holder could be housed there. Just an idea

    I think these are going to turn out to be your signature pieces. I was expecting you to make some copper hardware handles and use a copper pipe for your paper towel holder, but then I remembered you said you were not going to make this one industrial. The spice rack was a super cool addition.

    This is the first time I’ve watched your TH-cam channel. The desk to island is beautiful. You’re right, no one would ever know it started as a desk. Great job!

    This is absolutely my favorite transformation on TH-cam. I’ve been watching these videos for well over a year. This project exceeds every project I’ve watched during that time span. To have the imagination, skills and desire to what you did is awesome. I only wish I could’ve bought it! Congratulations on your win! You deserve it!

    Just found you and so love that you repurposed that desk,it kills my soul to see so much thrown away,especially when it can be repurposed into something new and that can be used for another 50 years. Great job💗

    love it sooo much! Sunday mornings have become my favorite, cause I get to watch your vids! So refreshing seeing how it just takes a bit of willingness and creativity to turn something discarded into an high-end piece. Thanks for all you do inspiring us all here!
    Another thought maybe for future projects. I have a similar drawer in my kitchen for the spices, however on both sides it has only the bars to keep them in. I find it more practical to pick up something regardless on which side of the kitchen I am. Either way it looks stunning, just my 2 cents in case you see some value in it :D
