I was really surprised to see Eric leave Google late last year, but they started a company to work on what they enjoy most. Looking back, it seems a really logical progression. I hope it goes the same way for Hixie.
Thanks. I hope it was clear, despite my rambling, that I don't consider this the end of the world for Flutter. When I said that there's still a bunch of amazing, caring people at Flutter, I was thinking of you, too. Google is made of disparate parts, and the Flutter org is one of the healthiest.
For a moment a thought Flutter was going to be deprecated, saw myself learning react to find a new job. Thankfully flutter is open source, and even if google stops supporting it at some point, don’t think it will die since hopefully another company would sponsor it. Because as Hixie said, the future is flutter, and it’s slowly becoming really dominant in the industry. I think that in three to five years it will be the king of frameworks/ui-kits.
where i live react native is still dominant in middle to large scaled companies and flutter is only being adopted in early stage startups, and that's completely due to the suspicion about google killing it. if google stops funding flutter i don't think it will exist anymore, maybe only indie devs would continue using it. but no adoption from companies = no new learners = death
@@adnanjpg I've been react native developer for 3 years and for the last 3 years i am a flutter developer. RN had a few components out of the box, a lot of bugs and poor performance opposite to flutter. Probably these things changed, but i think the only reason to choose RN is when you have javascript developers which are not intersting to learn something new. No offense to anyone, just a thought. Anyway, i agree that google can't kill flutter but only better framework can do it. For now i don't see better alternative so it mostly will become an issue for google if they stops supporting it
Google kills a lot of IMO bad ideas, i.e. G+. Flutter is the future. Remarkable SDK that beats everything else for cross-platform dev. It absolutely stinks there is a culture at Google though that is pushing out massive talent. They've got to change that. That's stupid

Filip I have no idea how you do it, but your way of explaining thing is captivating. Some parts are long winded - but they still work. You don't cut out any filler seconds - and it still works. What's your secret? 😅
Thanks for your kind words! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. I know they are extremely long-winded when compared to what normally works on TH-cam. I know there are folks who don't like my style, and that's okay, but it's heartening to know that there are also people like you who enjoy it. Thanks again! (P.S.: I'm hoping the "secret" is that I actually care about what I'm talking about. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
Golang has more contributors but less stars and less forks, but I still belive it is more important for Google and more used widely than Flutter. I use them both as great dev tools and I’m not even a Google fan :)
I talked with many people in the Flutter and Dart team last week. There was a specific sub-team that got fired (or "moved", more precisely) but almost everyone else is still there. I'd be curious to know where the "lots of people got fired at Flutter & Dart" thing is coming from, exactly. Was there an article? A tweet? Some Reddit post?
Seeing great people like Ian and Filip go through that would surely be demoralizing. I remember asking ChatGPT: "What if, someday, Google says Flutter is no longer open source?'". XD
I don't know, to be honest. One other person I very much trust has echoed the same sentiment towards her, but as for me, I have no first-person experience.
The root cause of all the problems lies with CEO Sundar Pichai. It is evident that a shake-up in leadership is necessary. Someone with strong moral principles hopefully it will bring a breath of fresh air.
IBM in the 1960s and 1970s was the company to work for, all the good qualities you talk about were there. Fast-forward to today, as with any large corporation, its driven by politics and not about what is good. Google is no different. It will go through the same things that all corporations go through and eventually just become a means to an end to make money. There will be always good people within companies but eventually they become just political entities to make money.
Really good video. I really find flutter to be a really good framework. Would be sad to see it go down the rabithole as Xamarin with Microsoft. Xamarin also had a great community at the time. Flutter just seems to be so much more and better timing to hit the market.
if google stop funding Flutter, pretty sure, facebook will take it or elon or maybe microsoft, amazon, or possible huawei, is the most used framework and truly write once runs everywhere
Amazon certainly won’t use flutter since they recently committed to React Native. And Microsoft uses React Native for many of their apps. So we can safely take out those 2 juggernaut’s.
TH-cam was very good around three years ago, now it is becoming big sh*t. Shorts must have been a separate product (The creators are crying actually). The AI algorithm in TH-cam does not work well to show relevant content, it shows 90 percent of content that is not relevant to me but I accidently find some of the most relevant content to me by meself (Earlier it was not the case) It is all because of revenue and Google does not care about actual use to society for good cause.
Google is missing the most important thing, people. and they haven't even put dart in job interviews. losing people from the present and hiring using languages from the past. AI don't see this

Last month lot of people at google fired. Especially with python, dart and flutter.

Haha, thanks for the offer! I'm not looking for a job.

Really? I have no strong opinion on Sundar. Are there any sources I should read up on?

What is the interest of Google by providing money & brain power for Flutter?
I mean what would Google lose if Flutter didn't exist at all?

Haha, thanks for the confidence! (On a more serious note, I think there are a thousand people who'd do that better, and are already at the company.)
