36 HOURS OF HELL

  • Two assault boats full of Cpt. Stern's action-loving Marines are heading towards the Pacific island of Rabaul. Fresh after a heavily Allied bombing, the Japanese troops stationed there are more than ready to give a warm welcome to the landing party. Tagging along with the GI boys is a war correspondent, whose carelessness may make him end up lost, tied up and distressed. On the Imperial side, however, Maj. Koshiro is forced to endure the company of a female Swedish missionary. At least his wounded subordinates are cared for properly, aren't they? Well, perhaps they'll put their swords and bayonets to good use afterwards...

After we switched over to the new Kevlar helmets, us older service members missed our steel pots, we heated water in to wash with, the guys used to shave in. We heated water in them then immersed our C-rats in the hot water. It was even used as a weapon if you were involved in hand to hand combat or as a shield of sorts in a knife fight. A very versatile thing the old M-1 Helmet was.

Correct radio procedure. Only use "OUT" when you are completely finished with the ENTIRE call, otherwise "Over" is the correct terminology to end your portion of the conversation at that point. That lets the other end know that there is still more to be said and that it is their turn ton talk or broadcast. I was a Special Forces Radio Operator as my primary MOS. I also had light weapons and Engineering and Demolitions MOSs and cross trained in medical stuff too. Never use "Over and Out".

Wjen I was in the Marines in the 80's as an MP, we had a MGYSGT who got pissed off whenever we said "REPEAT" on the police radio. He let us know it meant (to field artillery) to send another volley of artillery on the same designated spot because the volley was on target.

Not the worst WW2 movie I've seen, but far, far from the best. I haven't served in the military, but I doubt very much that a medic would advertise his identity with a big red cross on his helmet. I would think that would have made him a prime target, and he would have been the first to be shot. On the bright side, the English dubbing was actually pretty good - much better than in any of the Japanese sci-fi flicks I've seen.

    • @PopsOnethirtyfive-vb8tr

Actually, during WW-2, medics were considered non-combatants and went about unarmed.
The Geneva Convention prohibited the targeting of civilians, medics and medical personnel and aid workers.

What I am going to say in this comment about Captain Stern's and his men in the movie.
Now we know he starts off with a big platoon that being 50 or hundreds, and at the end of the movie only 4 marines and war corrospondent Stewart survive, now this where many of them got killed in the movie wouldn't be possible in real life warfare, why because in pacific war theaters nobody that size wouldn't be cut down to 4 troops at the end of the battle in series and movies like The Pacific or The Thin Red Line not mearly everyone died everyone thaught hard cuz they tried to survive a battle it was hard and mearly lets say if he in real life came to the island of Rabaul he and the remaining men probably to 30 or 40 or 50 men that are left out of hundreds that came here would have survived, it would be in real life just four men at the end of a movie makes no sense cuz I know when men have mearly lots of men that makes from hundreds to half size, but if it's millions that cuts down to thousands in a battle of wounded or killed or alive, obvisously the Italians had no clue how Pacific War theater even worked.

These “Soldiers” are wearing their rank insignia incorrectly. They also are not wearing steel helmets. What’s the matter, couldn’t they afford a technical adviser - a real Soldier who knew what was what?

It was impressive that American captain saved a soldier who had touched mine ,from which soldiers regard their commanding officer as their parent .
It was funny that Japanese major came to attention whenever he mentioned Japanese emperor whose name was Hirohito for whom innumerable Koreans were forcedly killed who belonged to Japan.
If USA had not defeated Japan in WW2 , Korea would be still Japanese colony ,which causes me to thank USA who is Korean .

    1Kuula
    esivanematele prohvetite kaudu,
2 on nüüd päevade lõpul meile rääkinud Poja kaudu,
5 Sest missugusele inglile on Jumal kunagi öelnud:
    „Sina oled mu Poeg,
    täna ma sünnitasin sinu.”?
    Ja veel:
    „Mina olen temale Isaks
„Sinu troon, Jumal, seisab igavesest ajast igavesti
    ja õiglus on su kuningakepp.
9 Sa oled armastanud õigust ja vihanud ülekohut,
seepärast on Jumal, sinu Jumal sind võidnud
    rõõmuõliga enam kui su kaaslasi.”
    10 Ja:
„Sina, Issand, oled alguses rajanud maa
    Eestikeelne Piibel 1997
    9Kuula
    Iisraeli valikust
1 Ma räägin tõtt Kristuses, ma ei valeta, minu kaastunnistaja
    on mu südametunnistus Pühas Vaimus,
poolest. Jumal, kes on üle kõige, olgu kiidetud igavesti! Aamen.
vaid on öeldud: „Sinu sugu loetakse Iisakist.”
8 See tähendab: mitte lihased lapsed ei ole Jumala
lapsed, vaid tema sooks arvatakse tõotuse lapsed.
9 Sest see on tõotusesõna: „Ma tulen tagasi sellesama
Kas Jumala juures on ebaõiglust? Mitte
    sugugi!

„Just selleks olen ma sind üles äratanud,
et sinu juures näidata oma väge,
ja et minu nime kuulutataks kogu maal.”

18 Niisiis, ta halastab, kellele tahab, ning kalgistab,
    keda tahab.
    Teie pole minu rahvas!,
