- Movie Class by PizzaFLIX: Euro War or Macaroni Combat is a sub-genre of war movies produced and directed Europeans, usually Italian. They emerged in the late-1960s, at the time when Italy’s famed Cinecittà Studio was churning out “genre” films, movies made to cash in on and mimic the success of Hollywood blockbusters, in this case, THE DIRTY DOZEN (1967,) KELLY’S HEROES(1970,) and Enzo G. Castellari’s THE INGLORIOUS BASTARDS (1978,) which would later inspire Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds (2009).

I watch this film, when I was a child (7-8 years old)... my father always enjoy war movies, and locate a VHS film, for our family. Now, I have 39 years old. Thanks for the publication, I'm back to the past!

I just started watching and the kids at the beginning and so cute with their giggles.
I agree. Although the tanks could've been better (same could be said for "Patton" which came out later).
I"m a film buff, have been for 60 years or more I am now 78, evryone is entiltled to their opinions of course, but for me there are superbly excellent war films, as indeed there are sadly bad ones.
But I watch movies whether War, Musicals, Drama, or Mysteries, for entertainment value, whille accuracy is important from an historical point of view in any film, Documetaries surely are the places to be where we should be looking for accuracy.
if documentaries on war are not correct then it insults all those on both sides who died for their country, regardless of polotics.

just saw the movie, very entertaining if you suspend disbelief... lots of action, goodenuf acting and a nice way to spend a sunday afternoon... enjoy it
Must have been *raining at your place that day.* I must have been drinking the 1st time I saw this. I gave this busted film a Like. This sucks as bad as the old TV show I Love Lucy. I can't take anymore spaghetti WWII films.

Moral was, in war there are no friends, not the futility of war.
It's stupid that at the first, while hiding in the cave, they complained about lack of food and water. While every dead soldier on that battlefield had a canteen and food rations. Called K rations during WWII
My father spent the best part of two years with the British army ..fighting across the top of Africa, farther east. He ended up captured and stuck in a POW camp in Italy for two years, after that less-than-pleasant experience.

These older war movies always seem to cast middle aged men into the leading roles. In actual fact most of the guys who did the fighting were quite young. The older men were invariably officers and their roles were command and not combat.

For its day when first shown it may have passed as a reasonably good movie. Unfortunately we have been spoiled with the reality of the movies shown today. I am pleased that I did not have to put up with the foul language used in today's war movies. I had to chuckle at the sound of the pistols when shot, just like the teacher hitting the desk top with her cane. My markings would be "Story line 6/10 and dialogue and acting 5/10".
Huge missed oppertunity storywise but was a youtube freebie so can't complain

I never heard of the Macaroni Combat genre before. It's obviously a play on the Spaghetti Western genre. Was there also similar pasta genres such as Lasagne Love Movies or Fettuccine Fight Films?

Good flick. No body armor or anything in WWII other than an inferior helmet compared to the Germans. Most GI's carried various good-luck charms and hoped for the best one hour at a time. Gasoline/diesel supply lines and working tanks were the keys in N. Africa.
In times of adversity, opposing sides can work together.
The M-3 shot like a Semi-Automatic... pow, pause, pow, etc. Although a .45 caliber, and every easy and accurate to use - it seems the Italians and Germans have the M-3 also in this flick. What a coincidence....

I like how they try to pass off the Walid 4x4 APCs (basically Egyptian copies of the post-war Soviet BTR-40 armoured car) as World War II vehicles....overall good use of Egyptian Army equipment!!!! This movie IS A GUT-BUSTING GOOD LAUGH!!!!

Was simply inspired by the guts and glory that I went out 27 minutes into the film and signed up for the Navy Seals training. After my fitness test though the recruiting officer told me I should try for the female version Navy Squeals. Those tough ass broads through me right through a window.

Basically any Italian war film made 1967-1971 is essentially a Spaghetti Western just with uniforms and machine guns, Germans instead of Federales.

in case some of you are not aware during World War II captured equipment and vehicles were used by enemy soldiers on both sides.
I've seen documentation videos of German soldiers driving M8 Greyhound and M-20 reconnaissance vehicles that were American and also driving British Personnel trucks and Bren carriers furthermore I've seen Americans driving both Hannahmogs both A and B versions and there is recorded documentation that Americans also used captured sturmgeschütz Panzers .
most are surprised to discover that the Germans were also driving trucks manufactured by Ford and Opel -- a 100 percent GM-owned subsidiary -- and flying Opel-built warplanes. GM sued for compensation for destroyed property and got it from usa at end of war.
