I got the Voigtlander 27mm and after spending time getting comfortable with manual focus it's practically become my default! Such a pleasure to have a compact lens like that for my x-t30 for running around town. 27mm is not the perfect focal length for me but I already have great options for the focal lengths I use the most, so I'm very happy to have it. I had never heard of Thypoch before but the images you made with it look great.
That Voigtlander 27mm is such a joy to use. And thank you!
First! I’m a fan of the electrical contacts from Voigt. I don’t know if I can go to another manual focus lens without it.
Other options are the 27mm f1.2 from Viltrox. Biggest con is the weight. Also the TT Artisans 27mm f/2.8. I hear the biggest thing is the vignetting wide open.
Yo! The electrical contacts from Voigtlander are lovely indeed.
I like a vignette, from reviews it's longitudinal CA is the achilles heel.
I've the lens on z mount and miss the exif but it's so new that I haven't done much post.
It’s not just exif data that tilts me to the voigtlander 27mm f/2 - a key feature is its ability to utilize the magnification upon manual focusing feature. With the Thypoch, one must press the back dial to get a magnified manual focus.
Love your videos
Self edit - although this benefit I suppose is marginal cuz only for x-pro3; x-e4 and later etc…
That's fair! All good reasons. Thanks for showing love!
Been using the thypoch on my XT-5 and my Xpro2 for about a month now. Took it with me and it was the primary lens i had on my cameras for the majority of the trip. The rendering is beautiful and monochrome images come out amazing. For the wet days i used the viltrox 27 1.2 due to the weathersealing, but as soon as it cleared up, back to the thypoch. I love this lens and the only downside i see is the lack of exif contacts. I got it for $480 on a B&H sale so the price was fine.
I think the 27mm F1.2 from Viltrox already solved this problem. Great video though!
There's also plenty of fast Chinese manual 25mm lenses that are way cheaper than this that would be just as sharp and good looking as long as you put the lens hood on them (their only real drawback is flaring issues).
@@shira_yone the 25mm 7a/tt don't cover the APS C sensor - the corners are unusable so by the time you crop them out you are at 35mm
@@jayoungrn they're literally made for APS-C sensors. Just look them up. Not just 7Artisans or TTArtisan, there's Meike, Pergear, and even more obscure ones making fast 25mm manual lenses.
In case you are whining about crop factor instead, then why are you on a Fujifilm video??
@ I own them ( pergear and TT ) - the TT does not cover the full APS - C sensor - the corners are smeared and very dark - unrecoverable so you have to crop it to a similar POv to a 35 - so useless
@@jayoungrn lens imperfection ≠ doesn't cover the whole sensor. This is *_not_* the same issue as putting an APSC lens on a full frame sensor camera (which you can do on a Sony or Nikon). You are conflating the two.
Don't get a cheap lens if you want usable corners wide open, either stop down or just get expensive lenses.
When I see everything is in focus I realize the only workable way for these is having a sunny day, f16, focus from 1.5m or 2 to infinity. I love third parties making manual bulky lenses, but I miss AF pancake lenses for the system. Even if they are 2.5 or f2.8… we are in APSC for compactness. I’m not talking about 27mm, that we have a couple of options (three, if we take into account the Fujinon 27mm mark I).. but other focal ranges. Good video, as usual!!
I 100% agree. If the large, “pro” lenses sustain the system and make Fuji money, by all means continue. However, more pancake and compact lenses are definitely in order. Thanks!
Thanks for the great review Doriyan! I've been shooting with Fuji's 27mm a lot but also thinking of getting Voigtlander for better/easier zone focusing on the streets, but your video added this guy to the equation. Oh boy :)
You can’t go wrong with either! Voigtlander 27mm is ultra compact and a true “character” lens.
I like the look of and the size of the voigtlander.
In my opinion, Voigtlander has yet to miss on Fuji X. The 23mm f/1.2, 27mm f/2 and 35mm f/0.9 are all fantastic.
There is the Kamlan 28mm 1.4 since some years ago. Much cheaper and quite good as well
Have you tried the Viltrox 27mm 1.2? It’s incredible imo. It’s so sharp! I don’t own it anymore because it wasn’t what I was looking for (the 33 1.4 was more my thing), but with my short time owning it, it impressed me a lot!
I haven’t tried out the Viltrox, but my guy Dee Rosa has and I recall him enjoying it!
Viltrox’s 27 f1.2 is awesome
I’ve heard!
HE DROPPED LETS GOOOOO!!!!
Out here! 🫡💯
Wooooohhh
Voigtlander 28mm f/2.0 Ultron Vintage Aspherical VM Lens Type II solves the problem for fujifilm, plus its a lot smaller.
I’d love if Thypoch or Voigtlander made a 18mm f/2 next.
@@doriyancoleman Voigtlanders 18mm f2.8 is really nice, I don't know if you have seen it?
The Laowa Argus 25mm f/0.95 (Fuji X-mount and others) weighs a ton and doesn't have a focusing tab. It does have an aperture ring de-clicking option. The build quality and image rendering are superb. I don't care about the lack of electrical contacts. It is a 25mm rather than 27mm, but crazy not to include it in considerations. I use it a lot.
I only talk in detail about stuff that I’ve used
Idk these prices don't make much sense with Fuji. Wonderful alternative for Leicas and Leica & Voigtländer lenses, but why should I pay so much Money for a MF lens with x mount? The floating lens element is dope and useful for Leica, but for Fuji? Eh, not much. If they would drop the prices, yes. At this price the Viltrox 27mm is a much better purchase both in terms of Image quality and build quality
That’s fair. Thanks for watching!
There is an audience that likes shooting manual on fuji systems. I understand the price discrepancy but people have paid more for L mount manual lens just to shoot it again on fuji.
Is Viltrox 27 1.4 ?
@@NeverDrunnnk it is f/1.2!
The KamLan 28mm f/1.4 provides similar ergonomics, build, and optical quality for less than $100 U.S. And in most respects, the Viltrox 27mm f/1.2 AF beats them all, though at a steep cost in size, weight, and purchase price.
Having more options makes winners out of all of us
Never yet heard of Thypoch as a lens manufacturer!
Are they new?
New-ish! I believe their parent company is a respected film/cinema lens developer
@@doriyancoleman Thanks for the info!
Sticking with my Voigtlander 27/40mm pancake, that’s a ridiculous lens and so small this would need to be that much better for me to take it off the xe1 maybe the XT5 but good luck getting the 18mm 1.4 off that body lol
The Voigtlander 27mm f/2 is an awesome lens. Wish they would carry over their design philosophy from the M-mount lenses
@@doriyancolemanI hear that like weather sealing would be nice but when I’m using it and looking at the images I’m not really thinking about how the build quality compares with leica
👏👏👏
Its 28 1.4 in leica fullframe, whats the focal length in fuji?
40mm
Its better if they make 18 1.4 28mm equivalent
Still too long for my taste, especially with the hood. Looks funny. The native Voigtländer x have the prefect size.
That’s fair. I’m hoping Voigtlander or Thypoch comes to the rescue with a fast 18mm lens, preferably pancake.
👍✌️
Much love!
The big problem that this lens solves is the problem of autofocus. It being a manual lens and all...
for me apsc is all about the size and weight. carrying a bunch of glass that covers full frame and use only a central part doesn’t really makes sense to me.
full frame weight and size, but smaller sensor. the worst of both worlds.
That's fair. I would love for third parties (and Fuji for that matter) to prioritize small, pancake-ish, f/2 lenses for the system.
Using lens that covers full frame on APS-C makes plenty of sense as long as it'll result in a focal length you want, in a form factor that you desire in my opinion. I got a TTArtisan 50mm f/2 (somewhat) pancake lens which translate 75mm (77 to be precise) in full frame terms, this is especially attractive to me as it preserve the APS-C appeal of compactness while offering something native APS-C lens doesn't have currently.
I suppose it really only make sense if the lens is compact, but if someone doesn't mind the size, there's nothing really wrong about using only the central part of the lens.
@@shira_yone I’m not saying you cannot use it. you just need to carry more weight then you have to since it has larger and heavier glass elements to cover bigger sensor area. that particular part doesn’t makes sense to me, but to each their own
@@artemkanaki9274 it really depends but in the case of budget manual lenses especially since there are many cases of corners flaws, putting them on a smaller sensor will then hide those imperfection while retaining central sharpness.
This will significantly improve the value of those lenses that would be subpar at best on full frame sensor, but will be an over performer on smaller sensors. This applies to vintage lenses as well. Hence why it makes sense that having more glass than you need is generally not that bad of an idea.
If the result is like this thypoch lens where it's massive and there's not much corners imperfection need hiding to begin with, then I can see it understandably not making much sense.
I guess the big problem is fuji has no expensive manual focus lenses?🤣
