Very interesting video. Used to love going to Woodford. Many happy memories of the air shows. Also been to a couple of open days and tours. Such a shame it has closed.

I watched many a great airshow at Woodford throughout the 1970's through into the 80's with my family, they were the best airshows in the Northwest of England, it was a wonderful venue. The high grass banking part was a great spectator viewing place. It really makes me sad to see a once great airfield in this state now, so many wonderful memories and wonderful displays of aircraft that no longer fly now took place there and seeing the Great White Vulcan Bomber now getting covered in green algae and moss makes me feel very sad also, what an absolute shame for an icon aircraft. 😢😥 And to anyone that helped with the running of the airshows at Woodford back in the day, can I say a big thank you for your time and effort in helping to make great airshows. Oh how I miss those days at Woodford ☹️

The woodford aerodrome museum is great. You should visit it, if you've not already. Been there a few times as small group of us for a motorcycle ride out.

You have some nice close up shots of the navigational aids there and also some very clear shots of the radar system, lovely work Bond, your Next mission is RAF Upper Heyford, see if you can sniff out which hangar they kept those pesky nukes in, pick up your gun, new car and spy briefcase from me tomorrow at 0800 hours, Q.

Thanks for the Video Lewis... I used to fly in Chipmonk planes at Woodford back in the late 80's when I was in the Air Training Corps '610 City of Chester' Squadron... Loved it... Thanks for the memories!!

Hello! I used to work in the Tower there in Comms during my Apprenticeship around 1984.
There was an NDB near Hayfield but the Tels Officer at the time had it relocated to the Airfield which spoiled our maintenance days out 'up the hill'. Yes NDB used to shut down after rain due to Ground Plane - something to do with saturated ground.
More recently I managed to get into Flight Sheds just before it was all finally demolished. Have some photos. Sad end to a wonderful place.

Very interesting video mate. I remember the brand new cases from the AOR 3000 and 3000a being for sale from the AOR's the air service bought to install in their towers. They were stripped out of their brand new enclosure's and they sold the cases for £70 each. Its great how your videos trigger memorise like that.

Great stuff. So sad to see it disappear but I guess if it couldn't pay it's way as an airfield then it should go. Just annoys me when they end up getting cheap houses whacked all over them like Woodford.

Great video Lewis. Knew Harry reasonably well, he used to tell some real good stories about Woodford and his time in the RAF.

That time-lapse at the end. Brilliant. But what a shame, seeing that airfield, if anything improve after the war. And then development kicks in. Another bit of history going.

At the New Orleans Lakefront airport, flights coming in or departing after the tower closed for the night at 12AM, pilots could simply dial in one of the designated radio frequencies, key the mic 2-3 times to turn on the runway lights.

I find it really sad when installations like this that have served a critical role and been lovingly been cared for to a high standard for decades just gets wiped out one day. I know we can't preserve everything but it would have been nice if it ended up recreated in a museum somewhere in the country, or even in a back garden.

    Good news Comrade Wingray!
You are now licensed to operate at 12.5w on selected frequencies by the D.P.(M).R.K.
Give me £275.81 and I will send you the licence and tell you which frequencies you can use.
