From a Chicago local news website: According to an issue of Popular Science: “Blind flying was known as ‘seat-of-the-pants’ flying.” It referred to pilots flying in the heavy fog without their instruments. They learned to tell whether they were flying right side up by the pressure against their parachute packs.
That sounds horrifying. "How could you tell whether you were upside-down or right-side-up?" "Oh, well, I could tell by the pressure in my pants." "Um... I'm afraid I don't underst--" "Look, I'm alive, but I'm gonna need a new pair of trousers. I'd rather not explain further."
That's when they just colonize the historic monument... On a side note, how is the new "Modern London Bridge" (1973-present) handling the increased traffic? I was thinking of visiting the historic "New London Bridge" (1831-1971) in Arizona. Maybe I can find the "Lego"-like instructions used to rebuild it after the move...
18:55 - I speak for all Australians when I express my sorrow at your hatred for us in this game. I'm a big fan of playing Oz in Civ6 too - totally not because they're super powerful, I swear >_> Edit: yes, Canberra is landlocked. Interesting bit of Trivia for you. When Oz federated there was too much conflict about whether Sydney or Melbourne should be the capital, and thus Canberra and the ACT (Australian Capital Territory) was born. Built vaguely somewhere in between both Melbourne and Sydney.
29:40 when you're talking about crater lake and how the boat looks funny on land. Viking longships were actually designed so they could sail across the baltic, then the vikings could pick up the boats and walk them to the next inland river or lake. So their boat being on land in a coastal lake makes perfect sense.
they were also notably shallow which is what allowed them to navigate rivers effectively. On that note, naval units sailing up rivers would be terrifying and amazing.
Some choice not-at-all-off-topic quotes from this sponsored video: "I wonder what it's like to be a puppet" "It must be great to be a werewolf in modern times" "I talk with women, I talk with your mum all the time" "What if horses came from space" (with a picture of a llama as background) "The NEXT time I play this, it's going to be unhinged!" "I've mastered the art of 'predictive text brain', I can just talk!" "Dido? More like Fido, you dog!" "I really want a Beowulf anime now!"
Hey Potato. On Emperor this is my start. Turn 1 - move settler towards wonder. Scout towards Kandy, Spearman towards tribal village. Set the policy cards to discount land purchase. Turn 2, settle of grassland next to marsh add the gov plaza, but build monument, purchase the woods, change policy card to build wonder. Get the relic from the Tribal village (this will get the faith for pantheon (reeds and marshes). Build Etemenanki on the Marsh (not next to wonder!!), put the holy site on the +5 once this unlocked. Bring the Spearman back and move toward Rapa Nui for culture boost. Once the scout finds Kandy and the wonder, move back across map to find Nazca (and maybe Korea). Head towards Venice and Hong Kong and Vatican City (+2 envoys). Win Conditions - Faith before end of Renaissance with 9 Cities - Domination before end of Industrial (12 Cities + others) - Diplomacy before end of Atomic (18 Cities - there are no aid requests!!!)
Draft horses are a nightmare when they loose their temper, they're a small step away from a raging bull when they get going. But by and large they're sweethearts. My family has a small farm where they breed and do horse shows.
I love creators that have a good flow state ramble and you are one of the best. Oh, and you have unlocked permanent victory over the Religions chart since you dominated the game so hard it doesn't even exist. Now let's see you do it on Deity.
The phrase "walk the walk" implies any action, not specifically a walk. The full phrase is "you can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk," so when someone says they can walk the walk, they mean that they can follow through on whatever action they intend to do.
The Walk is like Fight Club. You don't talk about it. If you know The Walk, then you walk The Walk, and others who know The Walk know it. If you don't know The Walk, then it's because you didn't earn the privilege of knowing The Walk, and so you don't know if someone around you is walking The Walk.
hahah 20:20 it's actually one of my fav jokes: why are the pyramids in Egypt? ... there's a lot of debate on this, but it's mostly because they were too heavy to carry to the British Museum...
Was interested to see your take on this. Hopefully, we get some harder challenges in the future, but I do like these cool start challenges so far. There's a cool strategy based on being suzerain of the city states who give you relics for discovering natural wonders with reliquary card for crazy faith. The tundra faith pantheon with work ethic is also a lot of fun.
In navigating a motor vehicle, you feel what the machine is doing through your butt. So you're going by feel, rather than what any fancy pants gauges or dials tell you.
I was wondering whether you were going to play this challenge. My own fastest time is a 3-city 77 turn religious victory at Emperor, followed by 1-city turn 80 domination victories on both Prince and Emperor. I think a domination victory can be achieved on Emperor in about 70 turns with the right strategy. The problem with religious victory is the wait for the Medieval golden age for the bonus movement/increased charges. My favorite approach is to settle 6 cities on the starting landmass, each with +7 or higher holy site adjacency (with tundra pantheon), and each adjacent to at least three forests; these are +20 or higher with Stave Churches and the holy site adjacency civic. Hercules can build the holy sites in cities 4-6, each of which also boast a +4 harbor, and this still leaves room for a Petra city in the desert. It's slower, with a religion coming around turn 110 and only properly turning towards a victory condition around the end of the Classical era on turn 136, but the production is high enough to summon 5-6 heroes alongside building numerous wonders, and the faith generation is so high that it can go absolutely bonkers buying great people and resummoning heroes. For extra lols, you can also settle Yosemite and Paititi; the Yosemite settle is particularly nice, in that it offers a high adjacency holy site, plus two luxuries not found on the starting landmass.
Flying by the seat of your paints. Looked into it a little bit and it goes back to when pilots flew without instrumentation in aircraft (or perhaps when they were non-operational).
As a guy who's studied history extensively, a mythology being built around horses arriving via meteor is not the craziest origin that humanity could come up with.
Not without save scumming, but you can affect what you get by taking different actions after a reload. I'm not sure on the specifics or the technical explanation, but I think it's something to do with the seed/ the way the computer randomises things. If you do things the same way, you'll get the same rolls on your Tribal Villages/Heroic Tales (which is why Potato knew what was in the huts, because he was retracing his steps from a previous test). But if you reload, then move another unit elsewhere, then end the turn, *then* pick up the hut, the roll may change. It's similar to how in xcom it has a string of numbers it knows it's going to use in order from the get go, but if you take different actions those numbers will get assigned to different things.
yes if you test with devloper tools and reveal the entire map you will see pheonics starts out in the renisance era meaning they're one era ahead of you as it turns out if you rush them before anyone else and get a city between their island you can easily summon in bewolf to take them out
21:47 😂😂😂 I am laughing the whole video tru😂... Also the question "What does it feel to be a puppet?" 😂😂😂 Well... I happen to be in a club of folks who like Mind Control , and one of their specialities😮 happens to be Becoming a Puppet to someone else, with strings, and control, and everything😅. Unless you are a sub (not a SUBmarine, a SUBmissive) you won't like being a puppet😅 PotatoMcWhiskey Thank you for the video❤
Hearing Potato saying 'Choppers' reminded me of the song 'Bonkers' I need a cover of that song with Potato saying Choppers instead of Bonkers Also, I am personally proud whenever I see Australia do well :(
I don’t know about Beowulf specifically, but there is a great anime about the Norman conquest of England, called Vinland Saga. Only two season too so it’s easy to get through.
Hmmm I wonder how this would go : > Found city > Build A few longships to kill 1st ai. > Capital builds holy site > Capital does nothing but holy site projects from now on. > Capture cities = Locust mode out some ships. > For each AI convert 1 city > Burn the rest to the ground.
Hmmmm the seat part of my pants is the most immediate part that I sit on. But, I often sit with my leg folded under me and therefore also sit on the other end of my pants simultaneously.
How about only one city challenge? 1- you can only have one city. 2- you can choose any kind of victory, with any civ. 3- can't build new cities, this means no settlers, except the one you begin with it. Unless you make the settlers and kill then on the spot to reduce population. 4- can't take cities from others civilizations, or if you end up taking one, you have to either raze it or return to the owner or give it to any other civ, making a deal with it on the same turn. 5- If a city falls because of loyalty and ask to join you, you have to refuse. And if you conquer it, you have to raze it or return to the founder. That's all.
I played it on emperor. Tundra pantheon, work ethic, crusade, Etemananki, mausoleum, mahabodi, multiple relics due to Kandy, Sinbad etc. then Boat Swarm and 20+ trade routes.
0:20 The start of the game mode actually suprisingly isn't that simple. As a longtime spuddie, it’s been fun to see Potato go from hating on Norway to becoming one of their biggest Stans.
It's a minor miracle considering what Norway did to east coast of Ireland some turns ago...
but he chose super baby difficulty instead of baby difficulty to finish the sponsored episode faster
The infamous tier list video
I feel like Potato was at a very high caffeine level while filming this lol
My natural state
Caffeine would calm him down tbh lol

I love that Potato gets a video sponsored by 2K and it is one of his most unhinged rambling videos in a long time.
He literally monetized his ADHD
Totally out of character
watching this felt like looking after a drunk friend and having to listen to their jokes while being perfectly sober
I think Firaxis got EXACTLY what they paid for with this one...
Ah yes another perfectly normal way to play Civ VI
Why aren't the pyramids in London?
Bexause they wont fit in the British Museum.

I swear, there was an Australian high up on the dev team who instructed the civ to be overpowered. Good on 'em
Canberra approx 800km from the ocean
That was one of the strongest “BUT”s I’ve heard in a while

Came from the Civ challenge stayed for the radio theatre, totally worth it!
Aviator slang for feeling the planes movement via the seat of your pants instead of relying on what you see via with instruments or out the window.

Potato was even more hyper than normal in this video imo, loving it though. Keep dunking on those AI's
It feels like Potato drank a liter of coffee and popped some speed before recording this :D I could barely follow him.
Missed opportunity for potato to say "I conquered YOUR MOM (she's as big as the seven seas) with one city as Norway"
OK - long time spuddy - been here since the teens in terms of subs - but the horse/meteor discussion was the most I have laughed in all these years
Potato absolutely unhinged this game
"next time i play it is going to be unhinged" makes me terrified with how unhinged you were here

re mods at 3:12: the ui mods that you suggest are those that firaxis should buy and implement in the game anyway so they should just take the hint.
The phrase "walk the walk" implies any action, not specifically a walk. The full phrase is "you can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk," so when someone says they can walk the walk, they mean that they can follow through on whatever action they intend to do.
Hilarious commentary! This made my day.

Did not expect Potato to reference Clerks by bellowing BERSERKER!
"Did he just say making fuck?"
Navigating Crater Lake may me the highlight of this challenge
you are my faforite siv6 ytber, i got this game on my birthday and now 3 months later i won at my first try at deity at turn 234 thanks to you
hahah 20:20 it's actually one of my fav jokes: why are the pyramids in Egypt? ... there's a lot of debate on this, but it's mostly because they were too heavy to carry to the British Museum...

27:18 I was not expecting a mom joke, caught me off guard and I laughed out loud. I had to explain it was your video to your mom
As a history anthropromoligst, can confirm horses are from the stars.
so much dialogue to follow. loved every second of it
I am honoured to be a part of the 3%. And also of the exact type of book nerd you characterised women as. I am here to confirm your biases.
Did he just forget about the one city part of this video? He got multiple settlers lol.
As an anthropomologist, I can confirm that horses did come from space.
Pyramids are actually in the British museum.😂

Hey Potato 🫶🏻
Could you do a brief overview on the tribal-village RNG? Is there any chance of knowing wich type of tribal village it is beforehand?
he said he restarted the game dude, so he knew..

Yeah, I suspect as much. pretty common in games when it comes to randomising things like that. @@Dooms1ayer
Appropriate that Tyre held out the longest given just how much of a pain in the ass it was for Alexander to take back during his conquest.

Thank you for the video❤
The Morbis meme arc has gone to a whole new level.
This has been so much fun to watch. god damn!
25:13 "what is the wok?" an asian dwayne johnson?!
Looking forward to seeing how you decided to beat this on Emperor.
Ah yes exactly what I love to see, going viking with the last king of the vikings!
Hearing Potato saying 'Choppers' reminded me of the song 'Bonkers'
I need a cover of that song with Potato saying Choppers instead of Bonkers
Also, I am personally proud whenever I see Australia do well :(
We do need werewolves in CIV...
They have vampires already. ;P

King Louis XIV laughs at the longevity of the reign of either British queen.
As someone who took high school history- I can indeed say horses emerged from meteorite
Considering there were no sponsored videos afterwards 2K was extremely satisfied 😂
your energy in this video is hilarious
truly an unprecedented and unfortunate situation, the most important graph doesn't even exist this time. Tragic
Yes. Finally some good content!
the string render glitch happened for me once, but it was a million times worse and made Harald look like a horrifying zombie

33:10 - That's called free-association.
Walking the walk historically was a reference to the Italian mafia who were named for the Italian word for swagger
I think Monty Python has some good instructions on how to walk the walk
Potato was on today. And yes, as an official anthropologicmalist I got your back 👍
44:02 You literally just described Thorkell from Vineland Saga. You said you're not a big anime guy, but watch a clip of him throwing trees.
Wow an Irish chap dogging on the Brits, never seen that before!
Norse, not Norman. Norse are from Scandinavia, specifically Norway. Normans are from the region of Normandy on the northern coast of France.
I think he ment to say the North Sea Empire, instead of the Norman Empire
Normans are vikings that settled Normandy my dude
Alpaca are alien horses 📝
MOAR Against the Storm

Victoria is a big part of Canadian heritage. She has her own day. There are cities and streets named after her. We came into our own under her reign
He's taking the piss. She's big in the UK too; people that know nothing about history still know about the Victorians
you only walk the walk if you have talked the talk so I imagine the talk determines the walk
