ADIDAS ADIZERO EVO SL - WORTH THE HYPE? THE NEW ADIDAS SUPER TRAINER - INITIAL REVIEW - EDDBUD
An initial review of what many think is the BEST DAILY RUNNING SHOE ON THE MARKET RIGHT NOW. The ADIZERO EVO SL has lots of the adidas lightstrike pro foam without a carbon plate or rods.
This is a shoe I have bought with my own cash for review. Not a soul is sponsoring me or vetting my views before you get to see them.
My pair are a uk 11 or us 11.5 and fit TRUE TO SIZE.
I comment on the upper, midsole and outsole after my initial runs.

I am not sure thats the case,
While I agree with Edd on most of the reviews, I think here its not bang on point, or maybe its not s match in terms of running preference
I think that the Evo SL is a fantastic trainer - no muss no fuss kinda shoe.
No plates, no unnecessary foam on the side or weird cutouts, price is bang on point, and had No issue with the continental rubber.
I actually got a pair after seeing Edd’s post for sportsshoes.
So I dont think that its a “honest reviews for not getting a pair in Berlin”

I picked up a pair recently and I find them to be very smooth. I never got on quite well with stiff plate shoes like the AF3, which are too mechanical and require a lot of input/effort to get anything out of them. Even plated trainers like the NB SC Trainer V2, although cushy, feels a bit like the plate just gets in the way. The Evo SL is like a half-priced Adios Pro 3 and, without the rods in there, seems to feel better cushioned despite having the exact same foam. I like it a lot and it's really, really nice for 8-9 min/mile paces.

Thanks for this review Ed! Quite a sobering perspective on these compared to what we’ve seen from most people, I’m still very excited to receive my pair just looking for something fun in a everyday shoe and for some long runs defiantly not expecting the world or to be a race/session shoe. I think this fits well in many rotations but also hits the market for those with just 1 shoe that does a Parkrun and a couple of runs in the week that may normally be wearing something much heavier and unresponsive that’s not needed for that volume that is if they can get their hands on it 😂 will this eventually be out for the masses who knows

I’ve had these for a few weeks and I disagree with Ed on the upper , I think it’s good, it feels soft compared to other shoes and it is light for a daily. It really feels like the adios pro 3 without rods and it’s never been marketed as a super shoe more an everyday trainer, and I think it’s way better than the novablast but it’s no Superblast killer

I can predict what Adidas will do next year with this model. Fix the tongue length, add some more cutaways in the midsole to lessen the weight, keep the same laces (because they always do), perhaps even play around with the lace system to cause some new problems which can be fixed in their next iteration and perhaps play around with the Lightstrike Pro compound. They love releasing a new shoe with heaps of fanfare and then under deliver. I recall the original Adios Pro when it was released. I was lucky enough to pick it up and everyone was raving about it but I was scratching my head everytime I ran in it as it was no Vaporfly killer and I think this shoe is no 'must have' daily trainer either. Good review. Still loving my Adios 4s. Damn good shoe with a fantastic upper. Thankfully I bought plenty of pairs on discount when they were available.

Hi Ed - honest review, as always. I picked up a pair, but currently nursing a calf strain so (BIG DISCLAIMER) haven't ran in them yet.
Agree with the laces and tongue - very poor and don't contribute to the lockdown. You really shouldn't have to be faffing about when you throw on a pair of dailys. Laces will probably be replaced as I did with AP3s.
However, I have noticed something which hasn't been picked up by any of the reviewers yet. The insole has an incredibly smooth surface, and whilst I managed to work around the laces & tongue, I could feel my foot slipping slightly just walking up and down the path. I've swapped it out and, hey presto, immediate improvement. It might not be an issue for anyone running sockless, but I can't imaging anyone in the UK going without socks in the winter.
I have a longish concrete garden path, and this is my test for grip on all shoes in the wet - 100% success rate on what works or not (for me). Seems absolutely fine on that surface, so reserving judgement. I expect it will be the same as AP3, so I'll be avoiding even the slightest hint of mud, although wet leaves haven't been a problem with the AP3. Fingers crossed for the Evo SL.
Don't really get why anybody would begin to compare it to the SB - different shoe altogether. It's more akin to the NB Rebel V4 - which I love.
They do look great, but the first run in wet & windy West Wilts are going to trash them. lol
Keep on doing what you're doing.

I ran California International Marathon (CIM) last Sunday and I ran them in Adios Pro 3. With the Adios Pro 4 trickle released, I wanted to give my low mileage Adios Pro 3 a race. Turned out to be my second best time.
However, I agree with you on tongue and cheese wire laces which is also on Pro 3. I did runner lace loop lacing to make sure heel was not slipping and as a result I got lace bite that high on my foot. 4 days later, the area is still bruised. I think EVO SL will suffer from the same except there is a bit more heel counter so one can get away without a runner lace loop.

Maybe I'm on the other side of the running shoe community but I really liked these out of the box and still not understanding why people like the SL2. Maybe it's because I like a thicker mid sole, but the SL2 felt like I was going to shatter my ankles versus the Evo SL propels me forward with tons of bounce+cushion. AP3 is also my favorite race shoe at the moment so maybe that's why I'm biased towards the Evo SL.

I bought a pair in the initial release and I love them. I bought them as a daily trainer (not sure they are intended to be a super trainer). They feel soft under foot, the heel is nice and soft, there is more than enough bounce for me (I don’t think I would like the Superblast). I do agree the upper could be better, especially the tongue but I don’t mind the laces. I have really enjoyed running in them so far - but have deliberately focused on not worrying about them being white! I could easily take them out multiple times a week for my easy / steady runs. I run in Takumi Sen for workouts and love the lightness of these shoes.

I had one since last month here in asia. I find the midsole quite dense, regular bounciness but not much cushion. They do come in other colorways like black with white stripes and some other colors. Maybe they'll release them later in europe. The thing that draws me to it is its simplicity, its very clean look. No fuss no nothing. In general western brands need to step up coz chinese brands like 351, anta and li ning are coming up with great running shoes, lighter, bouncier, cheaper

Adidas is finally hitting the daily market, but I think they still have work to do. Based on your review, I think most will still go for a Pegasus or NB5. The Supernova series probably attracts more people now and will last longer for "doing it all."
Additionally, as someone with the Takumi Sen 10 and Adios Pro 3, I feel those two pairs can still work at slower paces and probably are more durable than the SL with just LSPro

The Evo SL is readily available in stores where I am, so I got to try on a pair - and admittedly they felt great to me. But for a shoe marketed as a trainer, the outsole is so worrying that I decided to hold off on the purchase decision. The outsole is so thin, limited coverage on the back-half of the shoe, so much exposed foam - fine for use as a racer, but I am concerned about durability for use as a trainer.
