I always skip the lowest set of lace eyelets when lacing my skating shoes. It helps reduce pressure on the top of the foot. I don’t know how effective it would be on that particular shoe, but based on what you’re saying, I’d personally start out skipping the first two sets.
I have this issue on the joint of my toe with like 90% of vans. It sucks, always makes me super limited on their choices. I can usually do half cabs and the chukkas without pain. Otherwise the rest usually kill me
I have this going on right now with a pair of Kyle Walker 1s, but they're a size 8 and I usually wear 7.5s (in most brands) or sometimes 7s if they fit big or tend to bag out. That half size too big makes the insole press the stitching into my foot in a really fking awkward spot. 🫣
Please keep skating em and do the full review! Ive been super interested in these, even if they are hella expensive and feel like something is pinching your foot 😅

Loosen up the bottom half of the laces, but keep the top couple holes of laces by your ankle tight so they don’t feel like they’re gonna fall off or something. It’s worth a try at least. It worked for a few dudes I skate with that bought these earlier then the official launch. 🤷🏻♂️

I had the same issue with the left shoe, since my right foot is bigger. I had to loosen the left shoe to make that poking pain go away. It went away after they were broken in tho.
I had the original Ave (not the 2.0) and they had that same toe box bending problem. Made my toes hurt for months before the material finally wore down after lots of use. It's a design flaw imo. Only happened on one foot though I believe.

Just Tried them. The top of Ave 2.0 is crushing my toes when it bends (Just like mentioned). There is a plastic like part right at the base of the tongue to increase stiffness. This appears to be the source of the pinching. It crushes the tops of your toes, including the left and right side (top of foot) and that may also be due to the plastic on the side of the shoe. It's a bad feeling. I'm leaing on returning them now. Otherwise it's a nice shoe. Perhaps there is no way around this issue because without the reinforced hard areas, the stock would have no stability. Edit: I've returned them
These are the THIRD version of the Aves. I had 1 & 2. Here is a 2016 photo of me in the 1s (had to send in an Instagram message to you). These slipper-socks look like trash. They will fall apart fast My big-toes are permanently bending towards the baby toes now, from them having too pointy of a toe-area, & from me wearing half size smaller than I should have been, of AVE2s for 2 or 3 years straight. This throws off my overall balance/board-feel a tiny/noticeable amount. As a result, I now have to put 1 toe-spacers in-between my big-toe and the next toe beside it. I'm aware & cautious now about strictly-only picking shoes that don't have too pointy of toe-areas, and don't look like they will bend my big-toe inwards. Skate shoes are the worst for this, cause they usually have pointier toe-areas than normal shoes.
I just bought these shoes, I would not recommend them to any wide footed skaters. When I first sesh with them I had a problem with the plastic on the side of the shoe stabbing the bottom while going down sets and just doing flat tricks in general. These would be great if the plastic on the side was of sort of soft plastic flexible material in general.
He's not wrong, these aren't very comfortable. Got mine today and returning them tomorrow. They're like ankle socks with a sole. Might be good for some people, but not me. Too flimsy. Run narrow and poke you on the top of your foot.
I had the same problem with the ave 1.0. I think it’s the rapidweld toe cap area. It’s a pass for me. I think u should try the new balance 440 v2. High or low next
$130 for a pair of Vans is insane. Thats near the top of the most expensive skate shoes. Have you thought about just cutting the fabric under the toe loops that are pushing down on your toes
Vans has consistently become some of the most uncomfortable pairs of shoes for my feet, especially their cup soles. This one reminds me of the ultra range pro, I could not continue skating that shoe at all. Sucks because I also love the look of their vulcs but I can’t skate those without having to scrape a huge layer of the foxing tape off, it’s too much.
No, they are not. I Just returned a pair as the pain it was causing in the arch of my foot was not worth it. If you compare the sole of the aves 1.0's vs ave 2's they are much thinner
They look sick but why does the sole look like it’s worn out already? Also 130$ for shoes is way too much. Most likely just wait til they put em all on super sale
