Nice lesson, thanks! It really surprised me when in the early 90s they got such bad reviews from critics saying they were just a Nirvana & Pearl Jam copy band. NO WAY! Their guitar riffs are actual well-though-out riffs full of unique & difficult chords all over the place, chords usually not seen with distortion, rarely a power chord anywhere. Love Dean DeLeo's writing. Loved Scott's vocals too, RIP.
yea I think they got a load of unfair stick and whilst there are some similarities in places with some of the vocal lines to Kurt and Layne, Dean and Robert's playing is so unique. Dean basically uses a load of jazz chord voicings which is amazing!
Looking forward to the later albums when Dean gets full jazz chords. They are pain to get right, and play. adhesive sounds easy but f me it has some awesome chords
I clicked on this to make sure you were doing it right ;) Have had many debates in the past on how this song is played in every part. Most notably arguing about the main opening riff where many believe its just single noting on the E or using bar chords all the way down instead of anchoring the pinky on the 7th fret of the A string. Then again I argued with people about anchoring the the pinky and ring finger on the chord through the verse riff. You were spot on my friend. This is exactly how the song is played. Now that weird ass bridge............lol So hard to say because the studio version is layered so essentially impossible to recreate note for note live on one guitar. Its been a min but I remember doing this part a bit different live that was very contorted fingering but preserved a cpl extra notes I think your loosing with this method for that part. But overall great job brother. Thumbs up, Liked and subscribed.

I got a insane way to play this song. It has hendrix and sabbath chord riffs. It is played on the first 3 frets and is cleverly and respecfully fuller. I think the original way is awesome, but I cannot get away from my drone power chords. Play a bar B with the E string down like the Wind Crys Mary and walk it down like Tony would in Sabbath. Try it! It sounds so full and is easier to get to the F#. I am just experimenting a little. No disrespect intented! STP really rules hard!
one of my cheapest guitars :-) Edward LP Jimmy Page copy from Japan. Has a Bareknuckle (mule i think) pickup in the bridge. Really must figure out what it is as it sounds amazing. I think the guitar was only about £500

I haven’t used any distortion pedals by behringer but if you are on a tight budget the Donner Morpher is a cheap option and if you use code LPA you get 15% off.

I never understood this either. They had their own sound and sensibilities that had nothing whatsoever to do with grunge.

I don't know but that riff sounds an awful lot like war machine from Kiss love both bands but it was obviously influenced by war machine.
