I have struggled for the longest time because I kept trying to help people understand at different work places that writing is not just about filling the blank spaces or providing a microcopy at a very short notice. Now, I have set my boundaries like you and I drop strong point of views as and when required. Written material requires a thorough research, a strong strategy and multiple drafts before it's finalised. That's why, UX writing or writing in particular, can't be devoid of research and strategy and I totally agree with you. I am a UX writer myself, may be that's why I connect with this video. Keep publishing such informative and helpful videos please. 👀

My sister a teacher in the United States had a discussion around the lack of critical thinking skills with students. People do NOT think about thinking was our main conclusion. A title in a job description, let’s think about that WITH critical thinking skills. Another topic we discussed was learning the difference between a discussion and an argument. Arguments have their place BUT discussions foster learning.
This is such an important point (and funnily, I just pre-recorded a reel about the meaning of critical thinking in the skillset of a UX Writer)! Also, what you said about having discussions: I agree 100%! It's absolutely crucial to exchange perspectives and opinions and discuss things we take as a given, especially in a young field such as UX Writing. Plus: Collectively shifting an entire job title can have a major impact on all of us, and I really felt like we haven't really thought this one through 😅 Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, James, I really enjoy reading them!
