    The 4c really makes the commander fly beautifully. Great job DRC.

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it really comes alive with it :). Makes me wonder if it would just be better coming as a 4 cell plane out of the box. :)

    Happy St. Patricks Day! Nice upgrades! I really do like the look of red planes in the air. That color scheme is perfect against the blue sky. Time for you to get that Messerschmitt 163 or one of those MIGs :)

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Robert! Yes red is good especially the checkerboard. It's really easy to keep track of this one in the sky. Man I'd like to get a lot of planes that are out there, but have to pick and choose.

      I definitely hear ya. I have already had one big purging to make room for new remote control things in the garage. I need to be more picky these days. Hopefully you have room for an 1/8th scale buggy :)

    Ive had quite a few Servos fail in this plane. Rudder Servo especially

    That thing floats like a leaf. I get the impression it is a very light plane. It looks great! I like how it climbs. Just goes to show you,thinking outside the box is a great idea. I have a balsa 300 Extra electric that I crashed last year,the damn thing was not a good flyer in my book anyways. Heavy as all hell. I have been staying away from sport planes because of that plane.

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey Scott - this plane has a really nice range especially with the 4 cell. Open the throttle and it really grooves, slow it down, drop the flaps and it crawls in. Forget that Extra, there are good ones out there :)

    Jon I'll been thinking of buying this model to replace my Apprentice 15e. Still flying the Opterra though.

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Commander is a sweet flying plane and on 4 cells is about perfect with a huge range of speed between full throttle and slow, full flaps flying. Can't go wrong with it.

    Love the way it flies I'm not sure but My Rare Bear has 70 amp esc with a 1200kv .15 motor and I fly it on 4s to 6s the 900Kv .15 should be fine for with a 4s Thanks for the video!

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      nice - yeah I think it should be good. I've got better motors so if it fails will swap it out.

  • @keithlucas6260
    @keithlucas6260 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    First, OMG, great to see this on 4s and your advice on running it this way. Would be interesting to see if the stock ESC would handle or cook under load.

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you use the stock definitely prop it down and put it on a wattmeter first to see what you are pulling static. That esc just looks cheap and sketchy to me.

    • @Thebankfisher
      @Thebankfisher 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DiscoverRC I ran 4s on my pulse 15e same motor and stock 40amp esc and it can take it but you have to prop down to a 10x7 pulls about 50amps

    Have you had any issues with the stock servos? I LOVE the looks of this plane, but reading the discussion about it on RCG, it seems several people have had servo failures.

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      been fine so far. Haven't had any issues so far with e-flite servos. But I am sure a bad one does occasionally find it's way into a plane.

  • @lindamcentaffer5969
    @lindamcentaffer5969 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The thing to do is hog out the Batt. compartment with your Dremel & rub some Epoxy over the cuts, adding strength.

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      why - the battery compartment is plenty big already and there is no need to add strength in that area.

  • @wfletch88
    @wfletch88 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm going to have to try a 4s. The plane is really underpowered imo on 3s.

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah it comes alive with the 4 cell.

    • @Thebankfisher
      @Thebankfisher 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get an inbetween power level with just upgrading the motor to a BL15 1260kv on 3s with 11x6 prop or for more speed 10x10 ...the stock esc can handle it for full throttle in bursts

  • @larrymarchant6793
    @larrymarchant6793 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice upgrade to a well designed plane. One question. The 60 amp esc is apparently mounted beside the battery. Is it in some kind of holder? And how did you lengthen the output wire to the motor? Thanks again for your videos. Larry

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Larry - the esc is just velcroed in place. The wires are just as they come - nothing lengthened.

  • @fa300ry
    @fa300ry 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi
    I just upgraded my ESC to an Aerostar 50amp to take the 4S battery .
    Do you think 50amp is enough ?
    Do you think I can keep the prop or I should get an 11x7 prop ?
    Thanks

  • @DesmoR1098
    @DesmoR1098 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello, does the switch to 4S affect the motor? I just found one secondhand and have a Spare 80amp esc in my toolbox.....:-))))))

    nice landing. ...were flaps used?....dead stick or some power ?

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I think that was with flaps and pretty much dead stick - normally though I would use a little power with full flaps down. It worked that time though.

  • @MrTimmyGT

    I'm on the fence about getting the Commander or the Valiant....which do you prefer?

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      well I would say the Commander - such a solid plane. Set it up on 4s and it rips!

    • @misterkenova6695
      @misterkenova6695 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have both and both are great planes. I love my Valiant, it definitely is much easier to fly and still highly capable of maneuvers. The commander is great as well just a little more advanced, with the plane being a little more touchy. Both plains are incredible just depends on your skill level and comfort.

    • @MrTimmyGT
      @MrTimmyGT 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mister Kenova cool, thanks for the response, I would say I'm a solid intermediate pilot looking to get into sport flying and aerobatics, I think I'm gonna get a Commander first but I'll probably wind up with both eventually lol

    What's the largest 4s that you can put in this and have it CG correctly and fly with

  • @cgarcia279
    @cgarcia279 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is there any other prop you would suggest trying with the stock ESC and 3S batteries? Something that would give it more speed but still have good torque.

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll probably get better performance just going to an apc e prop that is the same 12x8 as stock. I did end up needing an extra collet I had laying around and a different spinner with the apc on 4 cells.

    • @daquino0021
      @daquino0021 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What collet and spinner did you use?

    • @johnnyg3681
      @johnnyg3681 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I USED A PROP ADAPTER COLLET AND THE ORIGINAL SPINNER I HAD TO SHAVE JUST SLIGHTLY TO GET THE 11X7 IN THERE.

    • @Thebankfisher
      @Thebankfisher 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use a 10x10 on 3s if you want more top end speed

  • @goldenwest70

    nice video, but I have to ask did the 15 size motor get really hot when you flew it

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      it doesn't get too hot; flown it quite a few times on 4 cells with no problems.

    I just clocked my commander doing 116mph on 4s!

    • @Thebankfisher
      @Thebankfisher 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No way with the stock motor ....maybe if you put a 1200+ kv with a 9x9 prop

    • @kevineaton4300
      @kevineaton4300 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope completely stock other than the battery I had about. 20mph wind going that day to, but since then on days with no wind I have gotten 100+mph on it.

  • @modelx89

    did you have any trouble installing the apc prop? my apc prob is not as thick as the stock one.

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I needed to use one of the ring adapters and a small spacer to get it in front of the cowl.

    • @cgarcia279
      @cgarcia279 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Discover RC Does the ring adapter come with the E- prop?

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes APC E props come with ring adapters

    • @cgarcia279
      @cgarcia279 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Discover RC Thanks Buddy..👍 Other than the ring adapter and spacers was there anything else you needed to do to the prop to make it work with the stock spinner? Sorry about all the questions.. I have everything needed to do this upgrade on the way just didn't want to run into any issues.

    Im running a 10x8 Xaor on stock system and its much better than the 12x4, have you checked the motor temp after a run, you might be close to losing a magnet like the damn CZ motors are know for.

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      just did the one short flight so far - will keep an eye on the motor as it is the only weak link now. I do have better motors in case it falls apart.

    • @shckltnebay
      @shckltnebay 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Discover RC yeah it's not like it would be a big loss laugh out loud I don't understand what's wrong with the CZ motor five minute mild flight in 75° weather and I can't leave my finger on it it's so hot. I'm setting up a sig cadet senior sport with a Hobby King motor that I may replace the carbon cub's with

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      my buddy's cz cub motor crapped a few magnets on the stock system. you would think this would have come up in qc at some point :(. Maybe I'll see if I have an old Hacker motor the right size - that would make the plane purr.

    • @shckltnebay
      @shckltnebay 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the stock CZC motor was drawing too many amps on the stock prop, 14x7 on it now stays nice and cool. Been flying the Commander with a 2200 4s and its doing great.

    • @Thebankfisher
      @Thebankfisher 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      High Amps will kill motors ... loosen up magnets and bearings...those stock BL motors they put in this plane as well as the pulse 15e are pure garbage ....the other BL motors seem to be reliable
