      not really. If they wanted to they should issue a M&P 10mm pistol to compete with glock 20. I think they should just stop producing the M&P 40 and 357 sig versions and just make an M&P 10mm fullsize pistol and then sell the barrels and mags for the other two. They'd make alot more money and THEN give the people what they want.

    • @donaldardell5742

      ZFlyingVLover, judging from empirical evidence, in this case first-place sales numbers for the M&P, I'd say Smith & Wesson is doing quite well. Marketing a niche caliber like the 10mm exclusively, and then making the consumer buy additional parts to assemble a .40 S&W or .357 Sig pistol, however, is not a viable strategy. Which is likely why S&W doesn't do it.

    I got mine chambered in .40 a few years ago and porting it was one of the first upgrades I did. A few years later and recently, I upgraded the guide rod spring system to one by Zahal, and it actually makes it easier to rack the slide. Then I got a Crimson Trace light/laser combo that looks like a small block and is very intuitive and easy to operate. I don't think I'll upgrade the sights or the trigger. The laser will compensate for other things like managing a less-than-sastisfactory trigger. And since I can't conceal carry, a premium trigger system and sights would be overkill for home defense. Glad that I watched this video because I used to regret not waiting for the newer Shield. Not anymore.

      @@HWG-wm8ld You're ignorant about me and my situation. You don't even know the additional reasons why I did upgrades to that particular gun. Not all of us have good vision and some of us may have disabilities, or we may be less agile and alert because of our age. One person is partially handicapped, so they need all the advantages they can get. There's other people in the house who would benefit from a gun with upgrades who are much older. I've already experienced an attempted home invasion by 4 ex-cons, and later two attempted burglaries. A CCW was denied to me because of politics and because I can't "donate" lots of money to the Sheriff. I would have had a chance if I was an actor, even an anti-2A one.

      Once you have enough firearms.... and actually shoot them frequently..... you can start to get picky about triggers.
      I’m certainly guilty about it now but years ago I could care less. I always give a factory trigger on a new firearm some time before swapping it out but 9/10 times I see obvious enough accuracy improvements. Not only for myself but new shooters as well.

    Been carrying the original shield 13 years in. I just can’t seem to get away from it. It’s just the perfect EDC carry gun. Near 3000 rounds over those 13 years and 1 stove pipe. And only 5 jams. This gun is a Gem. With proper cleaning after a good day at the range. It’s a workhorse that keeps on working. I did end up putting Trijicon Day and night sights and Apex 2.0N trigger with only 3.4 lb trigger pull. Also carry a diamondback DB9 in the pocket or usually on the ankle as a back up. Also a darn good gun. 2000 rounds about 10 hang ups. But some my fault. Awesome video even though old it’s a true goodie. Now subbed.

    Either the original or 2.0, both are very nice sturdy pistols that you can't go wrong with. I have the original and never experienced the "gritty trigger" people talk about. My trigger is quite smooth without any mods. Its been a very solid pistol and has never misfired or jammed.

  • @hasanmichael4966
    @hasanmichael4966 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    On my Shield 9mm, with the original trigger there was basically no audible or tactile reset. The trigger was just ok. I put in the Apex Duty/Carry kit and I think Apex uses the sear from the 2.0 in their kit for the Gen1 Shield because the trigger on your 2.0 seams to be exactly like mine with the Apex kit, minus the Apex return spring (explanation below). Originally with the stock set up I was getting 6.2lbs. I installed the full kit and even though the trigger felt better, it actually made the pull weight heavier at 6.6lbs. I did some reading online and the S&W return spring was lighter so I reinstalled it and now I get 5.5lbs and the trigger is perfect. Not to heavy, not to light, very crisp, audible/tactile reset that is decent (could be a little better as it's just a bit soft). But fantastic over all for a striker fired gun. If you have a Gen1 Shield and don't want to trade it for the 2.0 just upgrade the trigger and your good. IMO

      @@macross7kI bought the original about 2 years ago and have been very happy with it. I see no reason to upgrade to the 2.0. I was looking for a pocketable 9mm and first bought the Kahr cm9.
      What a mistake! Failures to feed, trigger guard too small which tore up my trigger finger, take down was a real pain. The shield fits in the same desantis nemesis holster I got for the kahr. I added the magguts +2 kit to the 7 round mag, giving me 9+1. The magguts baseplate adds just enough length to allow me to get a full three finger grip while still able to conceal in the pocket.
      I cannot conceal the 8 round mag in the pocket. The shield has been 100% reliable. Definitely a big s and w fan, I sometimes carry the m and p bodyguard .380 and it's also been problem free.
      Also have the m and p sport 2 ar-15. Modded it quite a bit with magpul accessories and love the rifle. Only other firearm I own is a Remington 870 magpul tactical. Covers all my bases. Knives on the other hand, are something I can't have enough of.

This was a very well detailed explanation of the differences between the two models, however I [personally] prefer my Gen 1 model over the "2.0". I would also like to point out, that on my Shield®️, I have the "sharper" 9mm stamping on the barrel, opposed to what you detailed in your differences (not that it really matters! 🙄) and by it being a "California issue", mine doesn't have the topside "peephole", but a "when loaded" (red) raised indicator instead! 😉👌 Outside of that, you were spot on!..💯%

    On a side note the 9mm font on the barrel probably has more to do with production date than 1.0 vs 2.0 as my original shield has the newer font. As for changes, your basically paying an extra $50 for a stipple job and a very MINOR trigger lightening. Changes are very minimal compared to the larger 2.0's. This is more like 1.2, they are the same damn gun. 2.0s are going for $429 here and regular shields $375 (except 40 cal which I guess are unpopular enough to sell for $299).

      The print on the barrel is what caught my eye in the video, I looked at my 1.0 and the font is the same as the 2.0 he was shaking around, so I was wondering if the guy who had it before me switched barrels or something. It's definitely a 1.0 slide and frame.

    I own a 1. 0 shield 9mm and a .45 shield. The .45 is not called a 2.0 but it has the aggressive texture and better / lighter trigger. I shoot the .45 a little better than the 9mm due to the upgrades. But if you already own a 1.0 9mm I'm not sure its worth the extra money.

My local shop didn't have much to say good and said "the Shield is a weak handgun" !!! Julie goulob did a test and the compensator didn't do much of anything... The shirt barrel is so close to rotational axis that it would take stouter or longer barrel for it to work... But u also get the trigger... I tried for one... But I'm not paying the extra money for a vented barrel that does no good... And they say u lose velocity no much but still... It's a short barrel

  • @JustinSMC

    So if the biggest difference is the trigger then why shouldn’t I buy the v1 for $250 and add an apex trigger for like $100? That would put me way under the cost of the 2.0 which goes closer to $425ish.

      @Cross_Guard 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @DR Dan amen to that man. Yes, that is a good solution. After a trip to the range and about 200 rounds later, the mag springs have gotten less stiff as well as the slide stop. Guess it takes time. Also, I loaded both mags to full capacity and let them sit with the rounds for a few days and that has helped a lot. Just out of the box they are insanely difficult. I'm just glad i didn't get the mags with the springs that bend and warp inside the magazine and creates a tangled mess. But when i took apart my 8 round mag the spring looked differently from the ones that warped. Must be new from Smith and Wesson.

(First one then the other you miss a little) All of this information that you provided could have been easily obtained from S&W website. After watching your video, the only difference in the two that I see, is the stippling on the grip, the front slide serrations, and the 2.0 markings. Oh, of course the price difference. I have the 1.0 I bought for $225. Just got the 2.0 with integrated laser for $335. I like the idea of having a factory laser and not a bulky add on. Almost identical in every way. Triggers are exactly the same. Weight is suppose to be lighter in the 2.0 for some reason. Can’t really feel it. Finish on frame is more smooth on the 1.0 and grip is more aggressive on 2.0. Says new audible reset on 2.0 but my 1.0 sounds exactly the same.
    I’ve owned close to 30 carry guns and I feel the shield is the best for what it is. Now with the Plus version out I would consider that over the 1.0. Only thing I’m not crazy about is the cheap looking flat trigger it comes with. Add some Trijicon HD’s on these and your good to go
