how many billions are you willing to provide for pumping, piping, maintenance and legals for the diversion and right of way? how often would it be useful?
They can, and they do. When they release this water (Bartlet and Horshoe Lakes on the lower Verde River) it flows into the Salt River, which flows through Phoenix and into the Gila River, and eventually into the Colorado River just northeast of Yuma. This water can be used by farmers in the lower Colorado River basin, which lets water managers withhold water from Lake Mead that would otherwise be needed by those same farmers. So, they do it not directly, but with 'offsetting' Lake Mead water allowances. These water managers know what they are doing :)
Mead gets water from the rockies, good snow in the rockies equals mead refill. Arizona has actually great run off coming from the mogollon rim and eastern Az.....and monsoonal rain...
@@garymills562 Powell is only 25% full though, an the upstream reserviors of Flaming Gorge and the giant lake west of Gunnison are low as well. The whole system is dry
It would seem to me that making room for more water, by opening the sluice gates installed for that very reason, is a very forward thinking strategy. Arizona should be congratulated for having such foresight to make more room for more water, especially at this time of year when snow turns to its liquid form, water, as it does every Spring.
Anyone know where to find info in regards to the water levels at Painted Rock reservoir? I couldn’t find much online. Do any area locals think that all this runoff will be enough to fill it?
Why release it before you absolutely need to? Next thing you know, the SRP head guys will be crying drought.
Mother Nature answered the call.
I don't understand why we can't devise a way to get this surplus to Lake Mead

Good winter to buy PHX more time. Hopefully Colorado river states can use this time to come to an agreement.
