She did not kill it. Some singers sounds better in the studio. Singing live is a whole other ordeal. She was flat a lot. Her voice is not that strong like a Whitney. But, the production worked in the studio. Maybe she's better now. But, my respect for Artists will always be in support of their tenacity. This business is tough.
@@garfieldharrison510Don’t judge by the one performance. She’s flawless most of the time and has superior improv skills which doesn’t translate well in popular music. She’s essentially a jazz singer moonlighting in R&B.

I don’t know what you guys are talking about... she has soo much control.. even if she was winded or nervous. She still controlled her vocals and voice still on point.
She sounds a little breathless but is still talented and so gorgeous! A beautiful mixed race woman that’s not got any of her body parts out, no plastic surgery, and twerking on stage! Respectful and elegant
I've seen Amel perform live at the City Winery in ATL several times . She has always been magnificent. She's human and can have an off night, most the time she sings effortlessly. She's still my favorite songbird.✌🏽
She's so under rated. I jam to her to this day. I do not care what people think of a 44 year old jamming. She's beautiful she actually sings extremely well with very little adjustments from the AV equipment.
I can tell she was nervous, understandably so. Performing at the Apollo was always a big deal for artist and Groove Theory really burst on to the scene with this song back then. I've seen Amel live in later years and she is amazing.
I LOVE this song, but to everyone saying she sounds "winded" you are 100% correct. She does NOT have a bad voice, but she just sounds like a regular girl who can carry a tune. As a "professional" singer, she should have better breath control and her vocals should be stronger...just my opinion. To think, people have criticized Janet Jackson and Aliyah, but both are better and Janet can also dance. The audience was very gracious because people love the song - and all the strait guys were just LOOKING at her. She could have sounded like a cat dying and it would'nt have mattered to them. People are so caught up on looks, but honestly if Kelly Price came out on stage sounding like this girl, lord help her. Still, it's an awesome song and the actual studio track sounds great.
Nah, that’s the apollo crowd in Harlem, NYC. The Toughest crowd in the world!!! I happen to have a tremendous appreciation for people that sing live because it is very difficult. She might’ve been out of breathe at certain times, but I do feel she sounded phenomenal. The song was a certified bop back then and the crowd was rocking with her. Does she sound an octave lower than her recording, yes. But she finished very strong and demonstrated good vocal skills.
This is the only time he's ever been out of breath and winded during a Live performance. So she doesn't need to practice singing on a treadmill. You don't know what was going on with her, what went on behind the scenes, what she was doing before she got there Or if she's coming down with something.
Amel could’ve just stood still & still commanded the stage. It was probably pressure to move around, back then everybody was dancing on stage lol. She did good though.
Right. They autotuned the hell out her voice which sounds great on the track, but sucks when time to perform live ... But all in all she did good ! Especially at the end! The ending was perfect!!
@@QuadrantBottomHalf You clearly have no knowledge of the soulful stylings of Mr. Teddy Riley's productions or the king of autotune Roger Troutman from Zapp...long before Cher's song..lol.

I think she’s more of a studio singer 😕 after some time of watching her live performances, it seems to be a constant habit. I used to think she purposely did it but idk...
