This was literally me today. Carried my 2yo in as my wife was working and I'm looking at sticks and he had wondered off and was playing with a kids setup in the corner. thanks for the great advice.
I can remember getting all my gear with my Dad and my triplet brother, we got all the gear tried it on and put it in our new hockey bags as we were walking out the door our new bags full of our new gear were given to our 2nd-grade selves we slung the bag over our body like we saw before and we both immediately fell to the floor(didn't realize how heavy it was)! We were both laughing so hard! Pretty much the same exact thing happened the moment we stepped on the ice! Good times.
to choose the right curve is realy simple you just take a stick ( before to buy it) left or right doesnt matter and juste try to shoot and then if you feel that you are in the wrong way to shoot take the other curve
Pick a curve you like and STICK WITH IT!!! It’s the only way you’ll get better stick handles and better passes if you’re used to the curve. Changing that could dramatically impact your game. I’ve been playing hockey for close to 20 years now. I use a p92, good for raising the puck, and cradling the puck when receiving passes. Hope this helps, even though it’s a few years late 😂
I realize I’m really late here but the way I figured it out was a cheap wood Franklin street hockey stick with a plastic blade. I was able to bend it however I wanted and the more I shot with it, the more I figured out what worked for me and what didn’t. Once I figured out how I liked it, you can try and find a stick that mimics the curve of the blade you have
3:20 - You're so right! Stick length really is personal preference. Some of the best have completely thrown out the stick length rule book. Sidney Crosby is 5'11 and uses a 54" stick. Mario Lemieux is 6'4 and used a stick that was around 70". Ovechkin uses an 80 flex stick and Chara uses a 150 flex. So much about the stick really comes from refining your own form, and practicing with what works and doesn't.
Exactly! I am 5’3, 210 lbs (yes I know I’m fat you don’t need to remind me) and use an 80 flex. Can’t find an 80 flex in an intermediate size so I play with a stick that’s practically taller than me
This was really helpful! I live in an area where hockey equipment/leagues are hard to find and have been wanting to get into the game for some time. Looking forward to the next video!
That’s because you are American i would guess. In Canada they typically have their dominant on top. That is why the majority of Canadians play Levite. Because hey are right handed like the majority of people in the world and they put their dominant hand/right hand on top hence lefty stick.
It’s none of your business pal don’t tell other kids what to do because once again it’s not yours and you shouldnt judge children and if you can’t tell by now i am making fun of Karen’s have a good day
I've been playing hockey for 4 yrs and I know everything their is to finding equipment but I enjoy watching these videos most cause of mason but I also just like them
So I’m 14 years old and I really want to start to learn how to play ice hockey, I can sort of play field hockey but I have never been on the ice before and I don’t think any where I live around does ice hockey classes
I'm a teenager starting to learn to skate so I can play, as I've wanted to since my first city team game (Albany devils) but my mom and I didn't know exactly what to get or what was best to last long, so this video is where i went lol
The curve preference...is blowing my mind. dominant hand down, secondary hand on end. So right handed people...shoot right. And left handed...shoot...left. But how you could rationalize the other way makes a lot of sense for why so many left handed sticks are sold.
I wish I could play hockey.. ==PLEASE REPLY= = Alrighty, I’m 11 is it too late to start hockey? I’m also female I’m aroun 4 feet and 10 inches tall, what size stick should I get ?
I'm thinking of getting back onto the ice and was wondering, What brand of skates that will help out players who are flat footed? I have feet like a duck and from what I remember when I played as a kid, my feet would hurt more and more throughout practice/game.
Huh I never know that the dominant hand should be on top but I am the most comfortable with my right hand on that bottom I guess that’s just my preference
When you were showing the helmets, you were pointing to a CCM v08 as a lower end price point helmet for beginners to get instead of the more expensive ones. The funny thing is, over 80% of the NHL wear the v08 (McDavid in particular) pros prefer the VN liner over the $260 helmets with the special foams and false advertising
I have an injury hand from an accident muscle and nerve damage. I have trouble getting a 85 flex stick to bend due to this injury. Should I move to an intermediate stick
I have a question in regards of skates now you mentioned your shoe size which is exactly like mine. I do wear size 10D but a couple weeks ago I've decided to go to Pro Hockey life and tried the Bauer skate lab just for the fun of it. According to what the specs came out I'm suppose to wear 9D or EE. Is there any truth to the skate lab or should I just stick to what I'm comfortable with in this case. If I could have your input on this it would be great. Thanks. Awesome video with your son.
Im not coach jeremy but if you feel comfortable in whatever skates, you should use them. The skate lab ideally is suppose to give you the proper, close fit which includes: toes brushing the cap, room in the forefoot, heel lock, and the correct volume. Also the skate lab isnt always going to be correct. If you prefer more room in the toe cap than go for it. Additionally, skates dont always have to be 1.5 less than your shoes size. I wear a size 9-9.5 shoe and wear a 6d skate. (5'8 Btw)
I’m autistic and this is why I’m going to go with a hybrid cage so this won’t be an issue for me. Plus it’s a sensory issue. As is now I am using a visor but when I join woman’s league here in the fall and full face protection is required I’ll definitely be going with the hybrid cage even though I’ll probably get chirped a ton
As a 34 year old who has been trying to figure all this out over the past year, this is an amazing series and I really hope to see it continue.
Catch mason in the NHL

I can remember getting all my gear with my Dad and my triplet brother, we got all the gear tried it on and put it in our new hockey bags as we were walking out the door our new bags full of our new gear were given to our 2nd-grade selves we slung the bag over our body like we saw before and we both immediately fell to the floor(didn't realize how heavy it was)! U should do a video on how to select the right curve
SmartHockey101 dude... It's hard to make a video about it. You should go and try it. These things depends on preference.
Right handed is left curve and left hand is right curve
to choose the right curve is realy simple you just take a stick ( before to buy it) left or right doesnt matter and juste try to shoot and then if you feel that you are in the wrong way to shoot take the other curve

This was really helpful! I live in an area where hockey equipment/leagues are hard to find and have been wanting to get into the game for some time. Looking forward to the next video!
Just started. Already have gear, but love this already. Can’t wait to see the at home advice as my hockey class is 3 hour drive away.
240lb football running back converted back to hockey. Still in search of a 115-120 flex stick in Canada.
Mason at 2:17 lmao 😂😂😂😂
Paynan Diaz hahahahaha
Paynan Diaz I didn’t catch that until I saw this comment
Paynan Diaz it’s 2:19 stupid bitch pinche way
I don't know anyone else whoms dominate hand is there top hand...very interesting
Mine lol
Jon mine as well haha
Same. I'm a right hand dominate but shoot right handed. Could never shoot left hand well
That’s because you are American i would guess. In Canada they typically have their dominant on top. That is why the majority of Canadians play Levite. Because hey are right handed like the majority of people in the world and they put their dominant hand/right hand on top hence lefty stick.
I'm right handed and have my right hand in bottom
6:20 gross don’t do this mason😂😂
It’s none of your business pal don’t tell other kids what to do because once again it’s not yours and you shouldnt judge children and if you can’t tell by now i am making fun of Karen’s have a good day
Awesome video. I’m getting my daughter into hockey and these videos will help. Thanks!
Jermey: don’t buy them the most expensive stuff when they start *continues to buy mason all ccm super tacks gear*
the first stick mason got was a floor hockey stick!!!! 😂😂
(edit): then they tell me you should still use it for a little kid like that. so cute.
I call it mini sticks but whatever call it what u wanr
I’m in rep and I’m watching that’s how good his vids are
Personally, I already know how to play. But, I constantly watch these videos just to see Mason. And, occasionally refresh my skills.
You forgot to mention a neck guard for minor hockey. Also, in BC mouthguards aren't mandatory.
Your like my friend. He writes left but plays two-hand sports right. I and many other people write right and do two-hand sports left.
I've been playing hockey for 4 yrs and I know everything their is to finding equipment but I enjoy watching these videos most cause of mason but I also just like them
wait is this shop in canada cause i swear i have been hear
At 2:20 did any one else see mason running in the background on the left side??😂
Would a ski/ snowboard helmet be good for starting out?
For public skating with no stick I’d say yes but if your playing full hockey then you have to have a licensed hockey helmet
Thanks!
I had my dominate hand on the bottom when i played.
Right hand, right hand shooter on the right wing/center.
I have my dominant (right) hand on the bottom and it feels way smoother for me than having my right hand on top
We know Mason will have the greatest hockey man coach and trainer around for all things hockey! Another great video!
So I’m 14 years old and I really want to start to learn how to play ice hockey, I can sort of play field hockey but I have never been on the ice before and I don’t think any where I live around does ice hockey classes

Alrighty, I’m 11 is it too late to start hockey?
I’m also female
I’m aroun 4 feet and 10 inches tall, what size stick should I get ?
Hey coach Jeremy how long have you been playing hockey
Two thumbs up for savory salty boogers. Don't waste those important electrolytes.
You should put a GoPro on masons helmet
Im New to hocky ilthanks for advise
William Slater welcome to the hockey family
you teaching us about stick flexes and mason in the back without shoes running around
good video. very informative and easy to understand
Hi Jeremy, Great video, can you do a more detailed video on the padding gear i.e pants & guards what is best for protection.
Cheers
6:20 😂yum
Thanks this actually made me interested in playing hockey
Hey coach Jeremy I just got some hockey gear because I'm starting hockey this Saturday
Mason is so adorable!! FYI, my teenagers now call McDonald's BADONALD'S!!! You should patent "BADONALD'S"...
I’m 21 and also refer to McDonald’s as Badonalds
Mason’s skates are adorable
at 4.10 mason ate his boogie
4:50 I have the pumps of those tiny skates but way bigger.
Dominant hand on top? WTH? That's like batting with a dominant hand on the bottom.
Nice video but I still have a question on stick size: Would you measure the size with or without the skating?
I'm thinking of getting back onto the ice and was wondering, What brand of skates that will help out players who are flat footed? I have feet like a duck and from what I remember when I played as a kid, my feet would hurt more and more throughout practice/game.

Mason: Hawkey stick!
The first he picked out is so funny bc me and my friends play knee hockey with those things
4:05 Mason picking his nose and then eating it I remember I used to do that when I was little
I have a qweaton this is my first year playing hockey with a Warrior it's and apha qx is that a good stick
Yes it's good
He’s just too precious

That's a good point! I think a lot of pros pick based on comfort and simplicity.
Is your back hurting after playing usual? Because I’m 10 and my back hurts after playing
2:19 look at mason in the background
I don’t play hockey, I figure skate, however mason is adorable therefore I am still going to watch this
I’m a figure skater turned hockey player lol
Hey coach Jeremy I'm going to start playing hockey at the end of the month
I play left wing but I want to play goalie any channels or tips about how to switch
dappy the dapper raptor as a player switched to a goalie I would just say slowly switch by first using goalie skates then pads then every thing else
@@owensks Thanks ill try that
I don’t play or watch hockey ……… I have no clue how these videos started going in my feed……… but I love the videos with your little boy 🙂
Cam's world same
So, lovely when he said "dad I need my hockey equipment" 💖💗🙂🙂
Mason in the background at 2:00 in the video lol
6:18 desert
I have an injury hand from an accident muscle and nerve damage. I have trouble getting a 85 flex stick to bend due to this injury. Should I move to an intermediate stick
cenaboyle go down to like a 75 and work your way up
😂😂😂 mason picked his nose then ate it 😂😂😂
He was 3 at the time but yeah 😂 😂
Do one for tendies
I agree
Why he's not a tendie
U2 Covers no but there are goalies out there
Hey mason see you in the NHL
My dominant hand is my right but I have my left hand on top just like you and shoot the same way
If you don't have a Velcro jock get some clear sock tape and wrap it around
Any thoughts on bladetech hockey blades?
Lol I have a the same gear as mason but bigger size and different stick but I’m going to bantoms this year wish me luck
2:15 MASON in the back 😂😂😂😂😂😂oml 😂😂😂😂
I play lacrosse but live in the south so can’t play hockey though I want to.
You can't play hockey because you live in the south? Why?
1bam159 I live in southern Louisiana, the closest skating rink is about 35 miles away and either way there are no hockey leagues.
Omg it’s the mini hockey skates for me 🥺🥺🥺🥰
I have 44-45 eu shoe size and i use 43 sized skates
Right when Mason picked his nose I was blowing my nose
I’m a 11 in shoe but 6 in skate
Awesome Video Jeremy!
Wait i have to buy socks. I thought your team gives it to you since its customized for the team. Plz tell me if in wrong
Why don’t you use a mode hockey stick
Mason picked his nose and ate it....
I don’t know why but I’m right handed for my dominate hand and a righty for puck.
You mean right hand being dominant and on the bottom of the stick? Because I am too
I have a question in regards of skates now you mentioned your shoe size which is exactly like mine. Thank you for the reply. I do feel more comfortable in a size 10D. I was just curious because of the skate lab result that I got.
The little kid in the background at 2:16 to 2:20 😂😂😂
What about a neck guard
Love your videos
omg Mason is a real cutie. Lucky he got his mom's looks!
First purchase...a cup. Need to protect a potential brother or sister
Wanna see that boy in the NHL soon 😂 push him hard
when the kid was trying on skates the first one was on the wrong foot and it killed me lmao
You forgot that the younger kids need a neck protector
This might just an American thing but no one wears neck guards
Here in Canada, everyone in midget and under, and women’s leagues need a neck protector.
Guys mason was three here, what three year old is gonna hit a clapper into masons neck?
SloMolasses it’s designed for cuts, and not meant to protect from slashes and shots.
Nathan Gutzmann true
What if you are nearsighted and your eyes would focus on the cage
I’m autistic and this is why I’m going to go with a hybrid cage so this won’t be an issue for me. Plus it’s a sensory issue. Great video!!
So I'm 220 I should use a 110 flex??? Jesus Murphy!
It’s honestly personal preference. I weigh 210 and use an 80
Usually do pants, skates then pads.
The Canadian way is top hand should be on the top and the American was is strong hand on the bottom
My way is whichever I feel like
