It should have won every year it aired. It was a fantastic show, with unforgettable characters and stories. It was worlds apart from all other daytime shows at that time. It is sorely missed.
A Martinez & Bridget did not hug - looked like no love lost as she hugs Marcy but walks right by A, BUT Jill Farren & A give each other a huge hug. Interesting...
Also, at this year's (and the following year's) - you see Robin Mattson give JFP a huge hug and coax her to go up on stage bc much of what won SB their Emmy was JFP's show running. And, JFP was a former GH staffer who was responsible for bringing Robin Mattson over to SB to replace Linda G as GINA.
How?!? It was because of Phelps that Cruz and Eden finally got married. That was NEVER going to happen under the Dobsons who were against an interracial couple

Love the Dobsons and all, but Bridget made this speech all about herself and her family. Gotta love the look on Jill Farren Phelps face. She did not look happy one bit. Wonder if the behind the scenes turmoil led to the demise of the show. I will say that from 1985 to 1988 (maybe 1989), "Santa Barbara" absolutely was the best show on daytime television.

I believe that JFP was already one of the producers of the show at the time the Dobsons were executive producers and head writers. Does Santa Barbara have more success, less success, or the same success that they ultimately had?
@Donna L. Bridges You skirted around the question. I'll give you my answer. When the Dobsons got kicked out, that hurt the show. A new head writer was brought in (her name escapes me right now LOL!). There were new characters brought in that some, if not many, fans didn't exactly love. There was less emphasis on the Lockridge family as a whole. I thought the best years were 1985 and 1986. The show was still good in 1987 and 1988. Full disclosure, I happen to be a big fan of Lane Davies as "Mason" and to me, he carried the show just as much, if not more, than A and Marcy did. When Lane left in 1989, that was the beginning of the end for the show. Again, this is just my opinion, and would love to know what you think.

He was just simply a terrific actor and nailed the part of "Mason" like no one else could ever do. Terry Lester and Gordon Thomson were no slouches. They were both accomplished actors, yet could never hold a candle next to Lane as Mason. Oh, I loved Robin Wright as well. Her leaving the show was bittersweet because you knew you would miss her as Kelly, but also very happy that she could pursue her movie career. Do you agree that when Lane Davies left, that started the downfall of the show? As far as the Kim Zimmer and Sydney Penny stuff, I had already checked out by then. I didn't like the John Conboy era prior to the Pam Long and Paul Rauch era, as it was.

Sooooo deserving!! This show was good from the start in 84 apsoulotley gold in 85 and 86 preety good in87 and88 then apsoulotley unwatchable !! I've never seen another show nose dive so fast!!

I kept watching it even in 1990 - when it really started to wane, because I had been intrigued when it was so good, but then it was never the same (the acting and the story-lines). It was such a shame. But while it was good, it was like no other! (Robin Mattson was one of the best the show had)!
That's because in 1990 a guiding light writer took over (cant think of her name) took Kim Zimmer with her and they both destroyed the show. Idc what anyone says Kim zimmer is a horrific actress and everything she touches turns to shit.

Believe it or not, when she wrote Texas back in the day, it was outstanding. But too late, it got cancelled anyway. Sad that she never brought that talent to another show, including my beloved Guiding Light.

I believe Chuck Pratt and Patrick Mulcahy started writing when the Dobsons were still Head Writers and Head Producers. I don't blame them at all.
