All the nominees were superb..but cynthia watros was OUTSTANDING!
I never wanted anybody to win anything as much as I wanted her to win that night. She is a powerhouse performer, Guiding Light wasn't the same without her after she left, she left her mark indeed.
I second that. Cynthia Wattros was a force to be reckoned with. I couldn't wait for her to walk away with that Emmy. Well deserved.

I was SO proud of Cynthia on this night. She worked so incredibly hard on Guiding Light making a vulnerable, emotional young nurse into one of the most multi faceted, captivating characters ever seen on daytime drama. Absolutely incredible work Cynthia.
If you have any doubt at all..look up "Guiding Light: She's Come Undone" on TH-cam...this is the master at work.

I still get so happy when he says her name all these years later! I was working at a hotel in Arizona the night this show was on and I remember watching through a window in a room...lol. Cynthia really knocked it out of the park that year...she absolutely deserved this Emmy!

There was never a more interesting soap character than Annie. You couldn't get to play a character so complicated and so various on anywhere other than a soap opera.
Well deserved. That episode they played for her nomination is so great! I wish we would've seen more of Cynthia Watros on Guiding Light. She may have saved the show at the end.
Powerhouse talent which they always had couldn't save the show. P&G turned the screws and CBS didn't fight it - enough. My take.
@@abemagic10 No, I believe that CBS wanted the show and P&G did not want to give it to them..for only God knows why. Yes, I do believe that if they would have brought Watros back and revived the Reva/Josh/Annie aspect it would have helped save the show in the end. The thing about Ellen Wheeler's time at GL was that she had some really good aspects of her time there but equally slightly bad aspects. She had some good characters and actors, but some unnecessary ones as well. Drew Carey is talking about "Price is Right" being on the air for 100 years, why couldn't a Daytime Drama be on the air that long?
This was her only nomination. Good thing she won.

Today she started taping on GH to play the role of Nina Reeves. She’s replacing Michelle Stafford in the role. Cynthia brought the cray to GL and I’m sure she’ll do the same on GH. She was sooooooo good as Annie.
These are the ones to watch She Come Undone 15, 16, 17, 18, 19!!! THOSE ARE THE BEST!! That's when she finally breaks down on the stand!

Wow, this was back in the days when the Daytime Emmy was still a big deal and were held in three-thousand seater venues. Those days are gone. Last year's ceremony (2013) looked like it was filmed on some public-access television channel, and there's no televised ceremony this year.

Annie Dutton is unforgettable!
Even on a show richly packed with naughty divas like Dinah Marler, outright villains like Alan and Alex Spaulding, and in the looming shadow of the sadly passed king of them all, the T-Rex of antagonism, Michael Zaslow's Roger Thorpe, Cynthia Watros managed to craft a truly outstanding hurricane of drama. There are many tempests in her teacup, and they're delicious. Annie Dutton forever! ❤GL

I was really upset back then when Cynthia won. GOD I thought Eileen was going to win for her Portrayl of Kristen Blake + 5 characters, lol. However looking back at the scenes that was submitted Cynthai won this Emmy that year hands down. Annie was nutts and you still felt for her and that was because of the brilliant portrayl from Cynthia Watros Good Job honey and well deserved.

So great how Kim Zimmer hugs her, and then Watros kisses Eileen Davidson. Those three were the class of this field that year. Should have been a three way tie. Joe Mascolo and Kristian Alfonso look great together as presenters.

I was such a fan of Cynthia Watros when she was on Guiding Light. I was in middle school when she was on, and i use to run home every day after school just to see what she was going to do 2 Reva or Josh. She was amazing, and i loved it when she threw herself down the stairs and made it look like reva did. OHHHHHHHHHH CLASSIC GUIDING LIGHT STORYLINES ANNIE DUTTON LEWIS ROCKS BRING HER BACK TO FUCK OVER CASSIE AND JOSH

She was truly great in all her scenes. I hope her arms didnt hurt after axing that mantle. She was great and also Terri Di Marco was in her performance as the refurbished Annie but not AS good.
1st of all....Watros was the favorite to win that year. Most of the soap press & unbiased fans had Watros winning. Many considered Davidson having a shot, but assumed the Emmy panel wouldn't care for the over the top storyline.
2nd...Erika Slezak won 1 of her Emmy's for playing Viki, Niki, Jean, Tori, Tommy, and Princess (that's 6) in 1995.
3rd....Watros wasn't unprepared because she thought Davidson would win. She was likely unprepared because she didn't want to get her hopes up.

Watching Annie' s descent into madness was amazing on GL, I 'm a Kim Zimmer fan for life but Cynthia Watros deserved that win for Lead Actress, the show lost something when she left and the Signey Coleman recast was a failure...

At the time I was there at the Emmys and I cried when Eileen lost this one but there's a reason for everything so I trusted why Cynthia won and Eileen had to wait until 2014.
I was devastated that Eileen didn’t win... Her arc from 96-98 was unbelievable! Good girl to completely hateful was amazing! Cynthia was amazing that scene in the cabin was chilling! I wasn’t really a Guiding Light fan but my godmother was and I watched Cynthia be so amazing. These women are in a class of there own!!
