  • I decided that a combiner would be better than my battery isolator and having a separate trickle charger for the engine battery. So I removed the old battery isolator and installed a Yandina C100 battery combiner. This means that when I am plugged into shore power, it will charge the house battery and engine battery but they will be isolated when dry camping to my engine battery doesn't get run down.
Here is a link to the item I bought: www.gmcrvparts.com/product-p/...

the diodes in the isolator will "draw" around .8 volts or so, so when you hooked up the combiner, you got actual voltage at the batteries since the combiner must be more efficient

Are you familiar with the Samlex ACR160? It is a charge isolator that keeps the house batteries isolated from the engine battery when dry camping to protect your engine battery from being run down. However when you are on shore power it charges both the house & engine batteries from shore power. When you unplug from shore power and start your coach it switches and charges both the house & engine batteries from alternator power. It also retains battery boost. An ACR160 is ~ $110 I recommend watching Jim Bounds new video on this
