  • Today I am sharing my truly massive historical trim and fabric haul which is mainly comprised of wool and silk. I usually do large shops like this twice a year, once in the beginning of autumn and once in the beginning of spring. I make 99% of my own clothing so I allocate my would be clothing budget to fabric and trim. Acquiring this historical trim was basically the highlight of my life, I can't stop swooning over it and all the possibilities.

    I’m so jealous of that embroidery thread!!!!!!
    Drooling!!!
    I’ve been embroidering since I was a kid I’m 63 now. There are so many different types to learn too. I’m really into stump work now. Have fun, I loved all the trims too, I received a bunch from someone a few years ago, love all of yours!

    Fabulous haul!
    I've suffered with eczema since I was an infant. I've found anything with oats (unless you have a gluten intolerance) is highly effective! It limits my dependence on hydrocortisone. As for dry hands, I've found Crabtree & Evelyn Gardener's hand cream is superb!!!

    Every once and awhile I find a video on TH-cam that I think I agree and then thumb up and fallow... that being said I just watched two of you videos and turned to my husband and said I just watched myself on TH-cam. Talking to my dog talking to my fabric and notions and accepting that I will forever see and love everything sewing 😂

    oh those trims are wonderful! I recently got some French trims from an etsy seller called Ruban Ruban. I have no idea what I'm going to do with them but they are just beautiful.
    RE red, I'm one of those people with the complexion of a ghost and I can only wear a couple of red shades. If it's too orange or too bright or lurid I look absolutely terrible in it. As a consequence I only ever buy red fabric and yarn in person, and when I'm ordering online I stick to shades that will still work even if they're a little bit off how they look on the monitor, which for me are greens and blues and purples. I'm not a big fan of white and I'm also not a big fan of black, my "neutral" is navy

      Thank you 😊 oooo I’ll have to check Etsy out. I feel that, only true red and darker shades of red look good on me. I love navy and a forest green as neutrals

    Those trims are mind-blowing. The closing of the Mom 'n' Pop's is heartbreaking. It's happening here too.
    The fabric has me in a half-swoon. Well done.

      @@CarolineElizabethMartin Thanks for the heads-up on what to look out for.
      Tip to return the favour - if your machine is low shank, and adaptable to Singer... be on the lookout for the 1950's version of an Automatic Zig Zagger. It will make working with knits possible. Just make sure it's not meant for a slant shank (it's printed on the needle arm).
      Then start the hunt for a 1960's Jetson style Buttonholer with the extra cams. Game. Changing.

    • @CarolineElizabethMartin
      @CarolineElizabethMartin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s so bad! Thankfully I slathered an endless amount of vaseline and steroidal ointment before this video so it doesn’t look too bad but it bleeds time to time and the constant itch is mind numbing

      This is something I’ve been struggling with. Fabric mart is my favorite online place. Mood is my second but it’s soooo expensive, it has a better selection though. If you’re looking for something specific, Etsy is good.

    The floss you have there looks to be all DMC and is still 100% cotton, also DMC the company has been around since 1746. Cool thing is they are still manufacturing the floss in France its not often you see a company last that long. I cross stitch and do some embroidery I love it just don't get in to silk embroidery its an account draining rabbit whole that will consume you, or maybe that's just me.

    • @CarolineElizabethMartin
      @CarolineElizabethMartin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they’re dmc and j&p Coates. Wow since 1746 that’s amazing and they manufacture in France, that’s super impressive. Thanks for the heads up about purchasing silk floss! I’m sure it’s super expensive.
