  • If you have located a wild American persimmon tree on your property, you are in for a treat. Our favorite treat is persimmon bread, made "kind of" like zucchini bread, but in my opinion it's better!
    Recipe:
    1 cup persimmon pulp
    1/2 cup softened butter
    1/4 cup white sugar
    1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sorghum syrup (can be substituted with additional 1/2 cup sugar)
    2 eggs, room temp
2 1/4 cup self rising flour
    cinnamon to taste
Preheat oven to 350. Cream together sugars and butter. Add eggs and sorghum syrup, combine. Add cinnamon. Slowly add in flour about 1/2 cup at a time. After all flour is combined, fold in persimmon pulp. Add mixture to a greased loaf pan, cook at 350 for 45 min- 1 hr or until toothpick comes out clean.

Hey y'all, I'm Meagan. My husband Andy and I grew up in rural NC and as newlyweds, decided we wanted something more than the typical American lifestyle. So we started growing our own food, I learned to can and so started this passion of food preservation and knowing where our food comes from.
Even though we grew up around this lifestyle, we still had to learn for ourselves, the ways of our ancestors before us. We now grow a huge portion of our food, including our own meat.
High society and MSM want you to think you don't have time to grow, preserve and cook your own food from scratch, but I am here to help you along the way. As a working mother of 2 on a busy little farm, there is time, we just have to prioritize it.
Through my weekly videos, I'll show you how to prepare easy meals cooked from scratch, tips on preserving your garden harvest and the occasional farm video. Live life on YOUR terms

Thank you for your wonderful persimmon bread recipe. My persimmons aren’t quite ripe yet, so I have to wait a bit longer. But, I will definitely be making the bread. Btw do you have any wild plum, wild mulberry, or black walnut recipes? If so, I would greatly appreciative them. Thank you so much!🙏🏻

❤I have seen persimmons but never eaten them in any way. So, my Lady, you have taught me a wealth of knowledge about them. The bread looks so delicious!! Your apron, and I know this video is a year old, is so pretty on you. Thank you for all you do, all you teach us, and being transparent about the things y’all have learned through trial and error. You and Andy are so real!!! And I think that’s why folks love your channel. 🙏🏻❤️

About a year and a half ago we moved out to the country and we have pecan trees and black walnut trees everywhere. Those trees were one of the biggest things that drew me to the place. We probably have between 20-30 pecan trees and 10-15 black walnut trees. We also have a creek that runs across our property. We recently made a walking trail along the creek and around the property and I take my dogs for a daily walk on the trail. During the summer I was walking along and noticed something reddish/purplish on the ground and butterflies were everywhere. Hundreds of them! I got closer and knew right away that they were mulberries. So far, I’ve found two mulberry trees on our property. I didn’t collect any. But, looking back I wish I would have. I’ll definitely collect them when summer rolls around again. Then, around the first of October 2023, I was out on the trail walking and noticed something small round and red. I picked it up to look at it and noticed it had a line on one side that looks like a butt! I googled it and found out that they are wild plums. Once I learned what the tree looked like I searched all around the trail and in the creek too. I’ve found 6-7 wild plum trees so far. I’ve collected about two gallon size ziplock bags of them and need to find out what to do with them quick. Now, while I was out searching for wild plum trees I stumbled across something else smack dab in the middle of the creek. I had never seen this before so I had no idea what I was looking at. However, I knew enough to know it was some type of fruit. I look up and see in front of me around 5 trees that look around 80 feet tall with green fruit everywhere that from the ground looked almost like tiny green apples. The bark on these trees was so unique, I have never seen anything like it. Again, all of these trees are in a group… or close proximity to one another and they are all growing in the middle of the creek. The creek is dry right now btw. So, I could only find 3 of these things on the ground and they were almost gooey and an orange color. The rest of the fruit was so high up in the tree that I couldn’t reach any. Again, I googled it and found out it is persimmons. I’ve never had a persimmon before. So, I’ve checked TH-cam to learn more. I came across your video on collecting them and making bread. And, I also found a pudding recipe for them too. But, I think I need to wait a little bit longer for them to ripen since they are still green in the trees. I enjoy exploring/foraging and learning about the property and what is growing on it. And, I’m glad I came across your video. I learned something new. Thanks! Now I need to collect some recipes for the rest of these goodie’s!😊 Got any wild plum recipes?

That is so awesome!!! Be sure before you try your wild persimmons that you let the frost bite them or else they will turn your mouth inside out! After the frost bites they are delicious!

I learned the hard way. However, I’ve been checking everyday for persimmons that have fallen off the tree….the first 2-3 were sweet in the beginning and towards the end yuck. But, each day that goes by more and more have ripened and fallen off and the last few I’ve collected are perfect. They couldn’t be any better. Now, I’m in Oklahoma. So, I don’t know how other persimmon trees are in colder climates. But, here we have very mild winters. Summer temperatures get up to 110-112. And, we have had a couple of nights that got down to about 40 degrees already in October. Then back up to 90 degrees the next day. I will say that when I first noticed the persimmon trees, the fruit was still green. Now, it’s only been a couple of weeks and the fruit is turning orange. And everyday more and more fall from the trees. At first I thought there were only 4-5 persimmon trees. But, turns out there are 16 mature trees and probably around the same amount that are in different stages…some are probably 4-5 years old and others look like they are maybe 1-2 years old. But the 16 mature trees are all extremely tall. At least 80 ft, maybe taller. I tried to figure out which ones were male or female. From what I can gather, it looks like all of the mature trees are female except two. There is so much fruit that it will keep me busy canning and baking for days! Thanks again for the tips. And, if you come across any wild plum or mulberry recipes please let me know! Thanks again. I can’t wait to use your recipe for the persimmons once I’ve collected enough of them.🙏🏻😊

I'm not familiar with the Wild Persimmon Tree. I have seen the bigger ones, Tangerine size or a little larger. I've had Persimmon Pudding, oh my, so good. I like that you know where all the free plants, herbs and fruit lives.😅😅 The Apron is lovely, and how thoughtful. I wear them all the time myself.
