This song used to scare the shit out of me.. I remember being woke up to it blaring out the stereo
I think My World would of been better had it been a hidden track. It would of been mysterious. After Don't Cry (alt lyrics) a few moments of silence and this song out of nowhere. I don't take this song seriously, how could you being that it was only 90 seconds?

Interesting song, reminds me of a strong industrial feel that was developing in the Brisbane night clubs and Sydney underground here in Australia moving away from technotronic in the early 1990s.This type of music changed the night scene vibe at the time and the change was do different. I remember this.

Didn't someone's book (maybe Slash) say that Axl did this song all by himself and he strong-arm'd the record label into putting it on the album at the last minute? I think Slash said he never knew about it either.

I like the song because of its shock effect and I think it recontextualizes the rest of the material on both albums. It leaves me with a chilled, horrified effect.

I honestly think My World is one of the best GN'R songs. But you have to be insane in a certain way to really understand it and dig it.

Axl was always promoting new bands back in the day including NIN, Nirvana, Faith No More, etc… they never seemed to appreciate it.
I used to despise "My World", but now I've come to appreciate it, if only for the crazy weird Axlness of it. And I kind of love how much the fans hate it. Similar to "Absurd", now. I like a band that can occasionally confuse, frighten or disgust its fans 😂🤣😜 ✌ Gn'fn'R!

i think that the truly story behind this song is that axl rose was sick of a terrible diarrhea when he composed it.
I personally love the track bc it sticks out and is completely memorable. Like the first time you get through that onslaught of an album, only to be treated with some bullshit like "let's do it" over and over, haha. Good on you, Axl. Stick to your Guns.
Slash is a rock n roll guy, I can't picture him playing anything else!....but that's why I love him!!!!!

If you look at the timeline this kinda predates Korn and the NuMetal/rap rock genre, but it’s on the right timeframe to have helped contribute to it. Idk if Korn or Marilyn Manson were fans of this song but it’d be very believable if that was the case

I was so young when I heard it. I felt entertained. I think it was quite good. I suppose I could have been stretched out of have part of it used in a movie or video game. I like how it was just a dab of something completely different but still tied in with Axls psyche. The music is interesting and the samples are vulgar. Really sparks imagery in the mind...kinda feels.like bits of a magazine cut up and pasted together.

Yeah Sympathy is gonna be interesting too, I read Slashs book recently and he talked a lot about how bad the vibe was during that recording, with Axl talking to him only from behind a magazine for 15 minutes and stuff like that. looking forward to stuff like Locomotive aswell!

Just stumbled across your channel & love it so far (and I am a Lafayette, Indiana native to boot). :)
So far, this is the only album I have heard in full, front to back (the rest in separate tracks, out of context). UYI II always struck me as the most bloated of the 2, both in the amount of ideas & how long they lasted (they just did not know when to let a song end, yet not a second of "November Rain" is wasted). This song just sounds like yet another idea added to the pot, except Axl did not know where to take it. Cannot say if Chinese Democracy is the direct result of "My World", but I wonder if Axl already had a game plan set for it that early.

I recall around 97 or 98ish they played a new Gn'R song on the radio, I forget what it was called, but it was an Industrial type song and it was never played again. When it comes to My World, I always assumed it was just a filler track and not to be taken as an actual song, used to flesh out the album to make it more conceptual.
it was oh my god for end of days soundtrack. I have a true story episode on that song too. If you search oh my god true story guns n roses you should find it.

some songs are just fun throwaway fillers , done for a bit of a laugh - you can't expect every song on a double album to be brilliant. i could imagine axl laughing out loud when he heard the finished song and insist it was put on the album as a fun bonus.
I love that distorted smile line, the "guess what I'm doing now....(woman moan)" part and its got a really good Axl scream but it's such a stupid track too

I hated it when I first heard it but now I like it. I am a big NIN fan tho
I get the idea of ending the Illusions albums with a short little coda song, but My World is godawful. First off, whatever the end track was, it should have been hidden, not cited on the tracklist. Second, you don't end an album with a song who's lyrics sound like they're inviting someone into an experience; you need lyrics that properly end something. "Farewell & Goodnight" by the Smashing Pumpkins is a good example, if a little long. Personally, after two albums of gandiose rock, I think they should have ended with something quiet and acoustic. A sound kind of like "Elizabeth my Dear" by the Stone Roses. Hell, they could have taken "Look at your Game Girl" and thrown that at the end, and it would've been great (I've always had a weakness for that song). Even if Axl really wanted to do an electronic piece, there's plenty of cooler, more downbeat electronic music that would be a better fit (see the end of nearly any Moby album). My World is just... just bad.

I see this song as what was gonna be the next GN'R album "My world" it's not GN'R music. But I believe this 9 inch nails etc thing is a direction Rose was going for. Of course Slash, Duff would not go for it. So Rose during the tour came up to them said sign the name over to me or I'm not going on(they did it just to keep the show on the road). Duff, Slash wanted to keep it a hard rock band Rose wanted to go in another direction they would not go for it. So get rid of them take the name and do his own thing in which I believe it was Rose's plan. He did his album that took so long to do with so many different players coming and going. His hired guns for a band. And the album tanked like come on(nothing against the bucket heads guitar skills) but you have a guy wearing a KFC bucket for a guitar player is this a band or a freak show?. Rose is supposed to be this brilliant guy writes these lyrics but he comes out with his version of GN'R and it falls big time. Just goes to show you he's not gonna have the right mix with out Slash and Duff.

i always thought that too, but from Axl's interviews it seems to suggest the opposite.
Axl's theory is that they in fact hated it, but pretended to like it so he would put it on the album and make a fool of himself.
