    Great content Sarah! Though I do feel you left out an 8th mistake: not considering second hand or 'pre loved' cages. Having a look at local classifieds for people who may be selling their old set up for whatever reason can save heaps of money and be a great source of inspiration in seeing just what is possible in the real world that you wouldn't always see in the shop photos. 😀 Hi to the piggies and I hope you all have a great day! 😀

      Just make sure to have an animal appropriate disinfectant... you never know why they are getting rid of that cage. I don't know about communicable guinea pig diseases, but I have birds. I know Birds have a high degree of communicable diseases,so better safe than sorry. I keep a small bottle of F10 veterinary Disinfectant.

    As always, a brilliant video highlighting the importance of space. My 3 have a 10' x 5' space and they love being there and zoom around so fast. I also have a 6' x 4' hutch outside with an attached 6' run, they go in there for several hours (weather permitting, when not too cold or too hot). But they are always happy to go home again.

    I made my own C&C cage because it was an easy and inexpensive way to get the size I wanted for my two boys. I made a 2x6 (2 sections wide and 6 sections long. Each section is a 14 inch square.
    I ordered the connecting cage parts from Amazon, and I bought one large piece of coraplast (about 96 inches long) from Home Depot. I chose those measurements because I already had an 8 ft long table I could put it on. I used white zip ties snd white duct tape on the coraplast and my daughter drew cute little paw prints meandering along the inside walls. I learned how to make it from a video that Scotty’s Animals has on his TH-cam channel. I started and stopped it as I was getting to each step in the process. It was super easy snd ended up costing less than $60.
    Then I used my barely there sewing skills and made four sets of fleece cage bottoms and about 25 “pee pads”. (My dear mother actually spent a day with me and made about 1/3 of them!)
    I think I will make a cage like yours whenever I need a new one. It looks even nicer!

    Thank you for this! I've been wanting guinea pigs for 6 years and have been doing my research for those 6 years. I started my guinea pig "obsession" when I was about 8, now I'm 14 and I still dream about owning my own guinea pigs! Hopefully my parents will agree this time! (there were reasons why my parents said no for owning guinea pigs) Your videos help me a lot and I learn so much so thank you!!

      Brilliant that you do the research. I had guinea pigs as a kid, not so much info then, no google/internet etc. I'm now 63 and adopted 3 rescue pigs and I love them - complete time wasters, but such happy times. Hopefully your parents will come around, especially as you've done all the research. Good luck

      Definitely. I have sold all of my C&C 2x4 cages, piglus, bowls etc as my pigs have passed away. I am currently selling the Little Friends 1m x 1m square indoor cage in very good condition and for a very good price as my last pig passed away at 6 and a half at the end of June. I'm having a bit of a pig break for a while as I am heavily pregnant with my son who is due in a few weeks and I already have a nearly 4 year old daughter who has always been besotted with our pigs as she's been surrounded by them since she was born. I have had 40+ rescue pigs since 2011 and had a guinea pig themed wedding that was featured in a pet magazine that Sarah mentioned in one of her videos many years ago :)

    I got second hand C&C panels from Facebook Marketplace very cheap! I have utilised them to make a floor enclosure with an easy lid over the main living /sleeping space as I have cats. With the cage panels I have made a series of gates using zip-ties and easily removable clamps, so I can effectively close the gates when I want to confine them to the main safe living area and, when the cats are not around, open them so they can run and play on the main run. SO easy to make it fit your space and "herd" the pigs when you're cleaning etc. xx

    I think a lot has to come down to owner responsibility as well. If you’re going to get a pet you should research how to care for them properly including enclosure size, proper diet etc. Yes the shops and manufacturers are partly to blame but if owners did their research before they got a pet then it wouldn’t be as much as an issue x

    Hi Sarah! So recently I brought 2 female, adorable piggies called Thelma and Louise, and I have been doing all my research taking in a lot of information! But on the night my dad came home he started having watery eyes and a sniffly nose, so the next night my dad came home he started up the same repetitive, sneezing and etc... So I figured out that it may be the guinea pigs that are causing all this commotion so I thought about if I could close the door a little bit mor or open the window a little, but no, how much i tried my best it still didn't work 😫. So it took me about a week to figure out what to do and absolutely HOW HOW HOW much I loved those cute little piggies I had to give away my piggies back to the RSPCA that I got them from! I was weeping my eyes out! I'm giving them away someday next week! I will be really, really, really extremely sad to see them go! 😭😢🙁. I will absolutely miss them! 😫❤️ Thank you so much 😊 for listening to my story Sarah! Please can you pray that they will go to a wonderful and safe home for my piggies! ❤️🤞🏼. And once again... thank you so so much for listening to my story! 🙂. P.S I wish my dad wasn't allergic to guinea pigs because I have been begging my mum for about a year to get them!

      @nicoleford3369 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some can be white crested (or just have a crest on their head). Or there are Abyssinians that have rosettes. So likely not an issue. If the spots on their heads are dry or scabby looking, then I'd find a vet that sees guinea pigs to rule out mites or ringworm. I'd be cautious keeping a male and female together unless the male was neutered (and has been a month I believe) or the female has been spayed.

      Guinea pigs can only jump/climb up 12” so as long as it’s 12” or more they shouldn’t be able to get out (for anyone having runaway guinea pig problems)

    I do not agree on that level cages are not okay for piggies. Mine enjoy it a lot. Just make levels not to high and stairs too steep and safe and it will be fine. They have ancestry in the Andes mountains.

    It's pretty rude to browse in person then buy online! If nobody buys in bricks-and-mortar shops, then these will vanish.
