Speaking shortly, it's a political satire. They mocking russian dictator putin and dictatorships in general. Also, it's an anti-war statement. There's more some small features which are for slavic languages speakers only, for example ŠČ is very roughly similar to the letter from russian alphabet which represents unique sound in russian language. Another linguistic thing here is despite the croatian lyrics, they are quite simple and, let's say, ukrainian speakers can easily understand and sing it.
the one she said looks like uncle fester has in a different structure(and language) Lenin written on his forehead and the tractor represent the belarussian president Lukashenko who aids/aided russia in the war and send Putin a tractor for his 70th birthday
The lead singer represents Soviet leader Joseph Stalin (and NOT a certain other mustacheioed dictator😅), while the bald guy with the missles represents Vladimir Lenin (''NJINLE'' on his forehead is an anagram of ''Lenjin'' / ''Lenin''). The first line of the song is ''Mom bought a tractor''. Since tractors are a common symbol of Belarus, this means ''Mother Russia bought Belarus''. It also refers to the gift that Lukashenko gave to Russia's leader on his 70th birthday. The second line is ''Mom loved a mor*n''. The ''mor*n'' is the current leader of the world's largest country. The third line is the whole Russian alphabet, since ''ŠČ'' is a Russian letter, and ''Mama ŠČ'' here means ''Mother Russia''. The next lines are ''Mom I'm going to play. Mom I'm going to war''. This means that world leaders treat wars like a game in which their soldiers are just ''playing'' to win. The final lines are ''That little psyc*opath. That little vile psyc*opath. Crocodile psyc*opath''. The ''crocodile'' has two meanings. One is Boris Johnson's statement that Russia's leader is like ''a crocodile eating your left leg'', while the second is that ''krokodil'' is a popular Russian drug that makes people act like zombies. The missles have the words ''NJINLE'' (anagram of ''Lenin'') and ''PAJČU'' (anagram of ''čupaj'' (to pull out), which means the opposite of to ''put in'').
Thanks for filling in some of the blanks. I think it's safe to say "krokodilčki" refers to the drug (was wondering why the four guys turn into zombies).
Congratulations on the explanation. I absolutely understood it that way too. But there is much more. Every day I discover something new in a song. Everything has a hidden meaning. A true masterpiece for me. It's amazing how many messages in 3 minutes. PAJČU.
@@darkobudak3504 Absolutely 🙂 It is a very well thought out performance, and in no way a "joke entry", as many would suggest upon their first viewing. The imperfect vocals give the song a kind of raw feel, and the chaotic staging actually goes well with a war theme. I actually missed a line of lyrics in my first post. When they say "Sha la la, armageddon nona", this sounds like a reference to how world leaders throw around threats of a nuclear war, as if it were just a game. It sounds like something a child would say when "playing" war games.
"Trajna Nina Armageddon Nona" means: Trajna Nina is a neutral verse but in the context is for example Bla Bla. Armagedon is Armageddon. Nona is Grandma. So, if Mama is Russia, Nona is the World. Follow the sequence of the Word:"Trajna Nina Armageddon Nona"

Krokodil in Russia is the name for a type of drug that destroys the mind. That's why every dictator is a crocodile psychopath. etc...etc...That's just a small part of the explanation. It's hard to explain everything. For example, why does the general (singer) take off his clothes at the end? When he takes off his clothes, you can see his nakedness, he has nothing but his uniform, he is empty. But it also shows that he is only human too. As they say in Croatia: He is also bloody under the skin. That means - he is vulnerable. And he will end up like any dictator.

Еvery movement, word, intonation, image, in the performance of the song "MAMA ŠČ" by LET THREE _ is a well-thought-out artistic genius message, you just have to open your eyes and ears to hear it.
I find myself singing this, and I don't even speak a Slavic language! The lyrics are actually not that hard to learn. Quick linguistic note: The Slavic languages didn't really start splitting apart until 1000 years ago. Compare that to the Romance languages, which started diverging during the Roman Empire, but kicked into overdrive after the fall of Rome. So every country speaking a Slavic language can kinda-sorta get the gist of any of the other Slavic languages. Which means every country speaking a Slavic language is gonna know what the lyrics are saying. And they're gonna Understand what this is about by the middle of the song. And they'll realize how genius it is. The rest of us? We're gonna be left scratching our heads wondering W.T.F. is going on?!?!?!? Some people may pick up on the words "moron[a]" and "psychopath", but even then, we're not gonna clue in. So there's going to be a *_MASSIVE_* divide in how this is received.
You are right about the Slavic languages. I am Polish and I understood 80-90% hearing it the first time. The exception was the Croat word for war (rat) which is different but otherwise the lyrics are simple to understand and sing.
Just confirming Rach, you did just see that, you're not having a fever dream. I think. I... hope. I gotta lay off the coffee after hours. What I'm about to say will split opinions - this entire package is genius. Musically it's very rich and goes all sorts of directions, and is a very surrealist and roundabout way of expressing anti-war sentiments, whilst still being quite easy to see where it stands. It's strange you should say that there's nothing "regimented" about it though Rach, I mean look at the costumes and the marching rhythms (ba dum tss). Not sorry. It's kind of like what Georgia wanted to do last year, but with a clearer message that's slightly less open to interpretation and with a much more "artistic", shall we say, way of expressing it in terms of music. Visually both were excellent. I'm quite sure we'll be seeing Croatia in the final, it's memorable, no matter what you think of it, and I think it has more televote appeal than it let(s) (3) on. In short, I enjoy this A LOT, but not ticked off at your mark. It's a lot to swallow and I wasn't sure what the frick was up the first time either 🤣
Hvala !! LET 3 BEND from Croatia we say Hrvatska..check Let 3 albums they are great rock band i love his album PEACE..a big hug from Ana from Rijeka in Hrvatska ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Tractor is a reference to Lukashenko's birthday gift for Putin. In the song, Putin is described as "little vile psychopath". The vocalist represents Stalin, while other guy has written on his head NJINLE (word game: LENIN). Mother ŠČ is a metaphor for mother Russia, and crocodile is a drug popular in Russia that makes people behave like zombies. Lyrics could be translated like this: Mama bought a tractor Mama loved a moron Bridge: (The most chaotic part of the song; letters of Croatian alphabet) Mama im going to war! That little psychopath Little viscous psychopath Crocodile psychopath Mama, I'm going to war fun facts: Let 3 has been on Croatian music stage for over 30 years, they are known for making provoking, satirical songs based on political events They actually arrived to Dora music contest on tractor ŠČ is the oldest letter of Croatian's Glagolitic script originated in 9th century
All over the place, but I expected as much given the band. To be fair, I can tolerate it. Had the juries been sticking around for the semi-finals, they may well have been up against it but this may go through. 99% of viewers in May won't know anything about the message behind it, so whether that plays any part, I don't know. It's one of those Marmite entries where if you say you're not so keen on it, you may end up with plenty of vitriol coming your way. Anyway, at least it's different.
I appreciate your reaction to the song. When I first listened to it, I was totally confused. Thanks a lot to everyone explaining the meaning here in the comment section! 👍 Their message is truly important and I hope they won't have trouble, because it's that political. I'm happy they'll be able to bring the message to a broader international audience. But musically it's absolutely not my taste. 🤷♀️ I'm sorry, it won't make it to my playlist.
A piece of avantgarde art, a political revue of excellence, a master piece... You should give a 10/10 score as soon as you have considered the message... 🤩 🥰 😛
You are looking at it musically. I get it. But to give this a 7 out of 10 on visuals and uniqueness makes no sense at all. It is simple yes, but I think if you give it 3 or 4 listens your rating for musicality will also increase.
From Mia Dimsic to this is just embarrassing. What were you guys thinking? At least Mia nearly qualified. This will get buried, and it's a disgrace to the contest.
@@TheMrJoKeeR What a childish response. It's not about ballads or up-tempo, it's about quality. This is shite. My top 5 are Estonia, Australia, Moldova, Sweden and Portugal.
@@jet687 I understand punk is not for everybody, but let 3 is real punk band present on the music scene of former Yugoslavia more than 30 years. This is how punk looks like. I don't have educational background related to music but I know that you cannot analyse most of the rock and roll music and especially not punk the way she does. Rock&roll goes way beyond melody, chorus blabla. Lyrics matter, attitude matter...
I don't think that musical opinion will change with understatement of the message. Personally I don't like the song, it's not my type of music. I know the message of the song but that still doesn't change my mind.
It can have a great message, it can be a satire to war but i'm here for the music, and as a song entry i dont like it, i always want esc to be a quality contest with quality songs. I respect who likes this but i prefer music.
It is not "one of theese" because the song is totally original and diferent from all other seen - this my article about the song on Wikipedia This is my text on Croatian Wikipedia about the song -- Mama ŠČ! is a song by the rock-punk group Let 3, which won at Dora 2023 held on February 11, 2023 in Opatija. The song will therefore represent Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool. According to the authors of more than 100 reactions to the song published so far on TH-cam, the song is amazing - a spontaneous, organic and compact amalgam of metal-rock, children's (nursery) rhyme, punk, classical opera, psychedelic music, marching, slet (mass games) music, with a concrete reminiscence of chaotic Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, with elements of pop and even dance music. It is already clear that it is the most original song of this year's Eurovision Song Contest, and one of the most original Eurovision songs in general. According to the comments of numerous listeners on TH-cam, it is an art song with a strong message, but also a parody. Let 3 complemented the ingeniously composed music with great choreography and stage performances, so many commentators on TH-cam point out that it is immediately clear that this is an original masterpiece, which will undoubtedly be noticed and remain prominent in the annals of the Eurovision Song Contest. The words of the song are cryptic, and they mention the mom who bought a tractor, the mom who a moron, a small vile psychopath, armageddon-nona (grandmother), and they end-up with the line: "mom, I'm going to war". The meaning of the word "ŠČ", which is repeated after each verse, is particularly mysterious. The song is intentionally allusive (because Eurovision songs must not have any political message), and has a fluent meaning. Her interpretation is greatly helped by the fact that the main vocalist, Prlja, with make-up resembles Hitler from Chaplin's "The Great Dictator", but also wears a Stalin`s mustache, and it is clear that this is a parody of all the "little vile psychopaths, crocodile psychopaths" who push humanity into nuclear war ("armageddon"), symbolized by missiles carried by a bald man with the word "Njinle" (an anagram of Lenin) written on his forehead, although he is actually dressed as Rasputin, which represents an additional transition of meaning and performance into the surreal and the counter - reasonable. The tractor mentioned at the beginning of the song probably refers to the tractor that Belarusian president Lukashenko bizarrely gave as a present to the Russian president Putin for his 70th birthday, and which - given that Russia finances Belarus - Russia bought to itself. The word "mama" (which bought a tractor) therefore means Mother Russia , and it is also symbolized by the double voice, i.e. the letter ŠČ, for which there is a special sign in the Russian alphabet (Щ). "Mama ŠČ" therefore means Mother Russia, although the song is not anti-Russian, but anti-war, because it "trolls" i.e. mocks and/or ironizes (with make-up, costumes, choreography, words and music) all those (both Hitler and Stalin) who, for the sake of the pleasure of their own domination, turn the world into a private playground of war, the price of which must be paid by the "little man". The words "moron" and "psychopath" are therefore based on all those who start wars, as the co-author of Mrle confirmed in his interview on February 16 on Bosnian television, and not only on Putin, as stated in most media, although the allusion to him is perhaps clearer than others. The song immediately delighted the majority of the audience, and won overwhelmingly at Dora, although there are also those who react negatively to it, so it is clear that it does not leave anyone indifferent. This was obviously the intention of the authors, more than winning the competition. Despite this, some "Mama ŠČ!" already see as the winner of the competition, which largely coincides with the bookmakers' predictions. WIWIBLOGGS, a specialized portal for Eurovision, has published the results of its poll on the favorites among the 15 songs selected so far. The first place was taken by Let 3 and their song "Mama ŠČ!". 31,437 people participated in the survey, and “Mama ŠČ!” won the first place with incredible 53.99% of votes (16,974 votes). Really without understanding the language I think I’m missing the message here. With no concept of the lyrics it does seem slightly inappropriate for the times we’re living in but I’m hopeful that once I understand it more it will become clear!
The salient points of the lyrics. :) Mother < Russia> bought a little tractor. (Putin got gifted a tractor for his 70th) Mother loves a little moron. ( self explanatory) That little psychopath, Little vicious psychopath Crocodile psychopath Mama I’m going to war. Rinse and repeat.
when i was in school we used to dance the makarena, that's basically the song...even the hand gestures are very similar. I think it's a criticism of the war, good one for audience and listening to it you appreciate the song more, but it remains poor and leaves little impact in the depths IMO.
I can understand how the song can be confusing to someone who is hearing it for the first time. So, let me try to explain the meaning. The song is basically an anti-war performance, making fun of the world’s most “famous” dictators. The title itself “Mama ŠČ” would be - Mother Russia (ŠČ being “the first letter of the oldest alphabet in the world"). The tractor is symbolism for president Alexander Lukashenko, who has aided Russia in the invasion, including gifting a tractor to Putin for his 70th birthday. The lyrics “mama kupila traktora” and “mama ljubila morona” - mama bought a tractor, mama kissed/loved a moron, I think is pretty much self explanatory, now that you know who mama is and what a tractor represents. “Onaj mali psihopat, mali podli psihopat, krokodilski psihopat” - that little psychopath, little vile psychopath, crocodile psychopath. Crocodile being a popular drug in Russia and psychopath… Well, pretty much any dictator ever. In this case, it’s clear who they’re talking about. The rocket guy has Njinle written on his forehead, it’s wordplay - Njin-Le/Le-Njin (Lenin). When you put all of this together, even musically the song makes complete sense. The beginning, when the song sounds even child like; because they are indeed acting like children playing their own little game of war and ego, while people around them die (hence the rest of the band on the floor surrounding the “main player”). The chaotic little opera part, because what is war if not chaotic? So even the “unclear” musical arrangement of the song is actually pretty clear and very clever, once you understand the story behind it. I hope I was able to bring the song justice in my explanation and that you will be able to watch and listen to it again with more clearence. 🙂 Greetings from Croatia! ŠČ!
Thanks a lot for the explanation! Their message is truly important and I hope they won't have trouble, because it's that political. I'm happy they'll be able to bring the message to a broader audience. But musically it's absolutely not my taste. 🤷♀️ I'm sorry, it won't make it to my playlist.
It feels like a backward step to send a circus act to Eurovision when it has produced so many worldwide selling artists in recent years. 5 bellowing cranks stood in a line like Morris dancers gives me Eurovision naughties vibes and entries like this challenge the credibility of the contest which is why I don’t agree with circus acts been sent. On the other hand, I can see this qualifying and possibly doing quite well for daring to be mad.
What was your feeling when the war in Urkain started? Did you understand somthing what´s going on? Did you undetrstand what Putin says? That´s what the song represented ... chaos and is full of metaphors. It´s an anti-war song who troll all dictatorships and people who have te power to kick your life into chaos ;)
How can you make a public appeal that someone needs to "explain" and you are underlying that you are "confused" so many times - well do your research! What do you want - a shortcut - you have a group name - do your research if you are interested. These guys do deserve that and not just superficial shortcuts.
Rumor has it.. The song was on the Reference Group table (urgent meeting) before was accepted! The song itself is just all the Eurovision is about... Croatians are angry at one of their relatives who invaded another relative's house and they're singing their frustration in this crazy guilty pleasure. No nudes, the main condition for them! I think televoting will grant them the final spot, but jury will place them low in the final.
So just because a 'song ' such as this has a message does not mean it is a good song because where is the melody? I thought the eurovision was about the music as well as the message. If this wins than I feel sorry for all those song writers who really put their heart in the job of writing beautiful music.
Let’s say, the lads have risen the queastionmarks in the ex Yugoslavia foe decades. What would be the message if you brought the Sex Pistols to a “ competition”. musically judged . 🤣
Loved it. I saw references to Kubrick's Dr Strangelove movie in the end. A great satire against war. Love it for it's dark humor and it's originality! Ps: I believe the stage performance misses a lot context comparing to the videoclip. Make sure you check the videoclip which is like a small movie, love it.
Lol.... Why am I not surprised??Like every other reaction video to this song, Croatians in the comments gaslighting everyone else to like this crap song....
Personally the subject matter of the song is so on the nose of humour that it's not that funny to most and given who is co hosting it's not funny in the slightest. It's not music.
I understand why you used the term, but calling this effort avant garde is bestowing credibility on what is basically just half-baked rag-week agitprop. 1/10

It's about Russa
mama kupila traktora
means mom bought a tractor
and the belorusian president bouht Putin a tractor for his birthday
idem u rad means i'm going to war
ŠČ is a letter in the russian alphabet (Щ)
mama ljubila morona means mom loved a moron
they are dressed as world leaders but also very unorthodox (they are makeing fun of them)
onaj mali psihopat means that small psycopath
I think you can get the point (hope this helped croatian isn't my main language but I know a lot I'm from the region)
In any way this unpredictable chaos hits hard enough to get us out of monotony and boredom 😅 it will certainly stand out at the Eurovision stage
its genius, arrangement has many ellements and audio breaking sounds impressive, great satirical number which cant be less then 10 out of 10
Еvery movement, word, intonation, image, in the performance of the song "MAMA ŠČ" by LET THREE _ is a well-thought-out artistic genius message, you just have to open your eyes and ears to hear it.
…and see it!
when I open my ears to hear it, it's a uncomfortable sound to me
I find myself singing this, and I don't even speak a Slavic language!
Greetings to everyone from Croatia, this is an anti-war song about Putin and his aggressive wars and the threat of nuclear weapons
Rock opera in 3 min
Hvala !! LET 3 BEND from Croatia we say Hrvatska..check Let 3 albums they are great rock band i love his album PEACE..a big hug from Ana from Rijeka in Hrvatska ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
It's like looking at a car crash in a sense of not being able to look away but at the end I want more of it
Exactly. And for that reason, it's winning!
This song landed way better after a few listens
Tractor is a reference to Lukashenko's birthday gift for Putin. In the song, Putin is described as "little vile psychopath". The vocalist represents Stalin, while other guy has written on his head NJINLE (word game: LENIN). Mother ŠČ is a metaphor for mother Russia, and crocodile is a drug popular in Russia that makes people behave like zombies.
Lyrics could be translated like this:
Mama bought a tractor Mama loved a moron
Bridge: (The most chaotic part of the song; letters of Croatian alphabet)
Mama im going to war!
That little psychopath Little viscous psychopath Crocodile psychopath
Mama, I'm going to war
fun facts:
Let 3 has been on Croatian music stage for over 30 years, they are known for making provoking, satirical songs based on political events
They actually arrived to Dora music contest on tractor ŠČ is the oldest letter of Croatian's Glagolitic script originated in 9th century
So, ŠČ is refering to a letter in the russian alphabet. Mama ŠČ is Mother Russia, but this song mocks dictators in general
Euro song is very old but Let 3 is something very new. The world, wakes up!
I appreciate your reaction to the song. When I first listened to it, I was totally confused.
Thanks a lot to everyone explaining the meaning here in the comment section! 👍
Their message is truly important and I hope they won't have trouble, because it's that political.
We Are small but this is masterpiece greetings from Croatia
From Mia Dimsic to this is just embarrassing. What were you guys thinking? At least Mia nearly qualified. This will get buried, and it's a disgrace to the contest.
@@catrionacolville2192 Go listen to another boring sad ballad then.
@@TheMrJoKeeR What a childish response. It's not about ballads or up-tempo, it's about quality. This is shite. My top 5 are Estonia, Australia, Moldova, Sweden and Portugal.

" it's one of theeese" and the side eye 🤣
yup. they've been consistently like that since the 80s. theatrical, absurdist
i don't really have any coherent thoughts this time lol. the song is unlistenable but i respect the chaos.
I'll help you understand what is this. It's real punk.
You know what... makes sense. Often it is quite difficult to approach something so unconventional.
This coming from the rock group whose last album was titled "Angela Merkel sere". It is what it is. It's a brave choice from Croatia to say the least.
Phahaha! I like your reaction, even though I strongly disagree. I hope you will change your mind when you understand the message of the song.
Naravno... Ha-ha-ha...ŠČ...Pozdrav iz Croatia 💥🇭🇷🇪🇺
I don't think that musical opinion will change with understatement of the message. Personally I don't like the song, it's not my type of music. I know the message of the song but that still doesn't change my mind.
WOW Crazy but I love it so much
the song is about mocking dictators, strongmen, uniform lovers, psychopaths sending people to war, and their admirers ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It can have a great message, it can be a satire to war but i'm here for the music, and as a song entry i dont like it, i always want esc to be a quality contest with quality songs. I respect who likes this but i prefer music.
Thank goodness.....a sensible response at last.
Nah.... No sensible person likes it.... It's just Croatians gaslighting people to like that terrible song.... I really hope it comes last in sf
We are The best..Let 3 winn this Eurovision☮️

Reading some other comments about the anti war statement and comments on dictatorship I think I’m there now!! 👏🏼
I love the concept behind the song, but not the song. Maybe listening to it a few more times, but honestly why should I force myself into liking it?
The salient points of the lyrics. :)
Mother < Russia> bought a little tractor. (Putin got gifted a tractor for his 70th)
Mother loves a little moron. ( self explanatory)
That little psychopath,
Little vicious psychopath
Crocodile psychopath
Mama I’m going to war.
Greetings from Croatia!
At least I thought you would appreciate this rock opera! :) Try to listen to audio version..and then, watch the performance .. again!
On the other hand, I can see this qualifying and possibly doing quite well for daring to be mad.
great performance, madness, chaos, I love it
Psychic on leash......bark..,.bark...bark
I really enjoyed your analysis on this one.

The entro doesnt seems like " olivia rodrigo - brutal"???
The shade thrown to Crazy Frog is real lmao haha ;p
Let’s say, the lads have risen the queastionmarks in the ex Yugoslavia foe decades. What would be the message if you brought the Sex Pistols to a “ competition”. musically judged . 🤣
Music-wise this is nothing, but the message and the performance is "interesting"
it's unique and very suggestive visually but it is too lacking musically for me honestly
yea the world is simple ...
The part where the camera is overhead - is that not the most musically inventive part of anu song this year?
Loved it. I saw references to Kubrick's Dr Strangelove movie in the end. A great satire against war. Love it for it's dark humor and it's originality! Ps: I believe the stage performance misses a lot context comparing to the videoclip. Make sure you check the videoclip which is like a small movie, love it.
You should've looked up the lyrics.
Dingle dangle 😂 ❤
They are talking about war
Guilty pleasure was tame? It was about adultery! I mean, sure, it wasn't weird.

Lol.... Why am I not surprised??Like every other reaction video to this song, Croatians in the comments gaslighting everyone else to like this crap song....
Just waiting for their crying after Croatia isn't in the final in May and the results show them as last place in semifinal 1

Apsolute Mastersong!!!! top performance and message!!! Dit song is genius with a poverful message!!!!
A bizarre blasphemical political allegory. Not for everyone, obviously too much for the ESC (EŠČ). Not much music here but that was on purpose. SH-CH.
Personally the subject matter of the song is so on the nose of humour that it's not that funny to most and given who is co hosting it's not funny in the slightest. It's not music.
I couldn't follow you on Spotify. Write down your user, please 😊
It is a rock mock opera..... ŠČ!

This song is an INSULT to my ears... horrible. I give it MINUS 1000 and I still think is to high.
I understand why you used the term, but calling this effort avant garde is bestowing credibility on what is basically just half-baked rag-week agitprop. 1/10
