This approach, meticulously outlined and approved by the vet, has proven highly effective in alleviating her symptoms. Additionally, her diet is carefully managed to minimize sugar and starch intake. We are currently testing her for PPID (Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction), a condition typically associated with older horses but also seen in malnourished youngsters. This condition, similar to Cushing's disease, may be influencing her overall health. Based on our experience, I highly recommend considering cooling boots or hydrotherapy as part of a comprehensive management strategy for similar conditions. These methods have made a significant difference in her well-being.

I am not a vet. In listening to your narrative I wondered about the o2 exchange in relation to skeletons leg swelling. Could the fire smoke have any effects on lack of oxygen from his lungs to the furthest two extremities his two back legs to the tendons and connective tissue in fetlocks. He began to improve🎉 when the smoke disbursed. In racing horses the STP Oxyhen exchange is exilerated the higher the demand for o2 exchange by the muscles the faster the lungs take in n̈ew o2. Is there a corelation? Could the lack of hand walking during the worst time of smoke remove fresh o2 from Skely's increased need for fresh air? Smoke inhalation narrows the pains in people. We get headaches from the smoke. It makes is sick. Just wondering if this has anything to do with clean air? Hoping all will return to improved conditions with your hard work. Waiting is difficult. Stress on you is difficult. More will be revealed as time passes. Some events we are powerless to control. That is when we must learn acceptance of what is. My prayers for you and Skely.😮
I'm from the UK owning a horse here is much different. It's very expensive for one thing and sadly I'm sure cruelty is everywhere but still I'm so shocked at the scale of cruelty, suffering and the terrible state of many of the auction horses in the US. My heart sunk when I saw how serious his swelling and lameness was. I think you and your vet are doing a marvelous job, checking and rechecking every avenue for his healing but knowing in the back of your minds that the last act of kindness may be in his future. Poor sweet Skeletor.😢 This is so unfair, after what he's endured in his short life. The only luck he's ever had was the day you brought him home. No matter what happens, he's in the best place he could be and no one would give him better care. 💕💗

Seeing Skelator “horsing around” on day nine made me feel so very happy. But the reality of maybe having to put him down because of the degenerative disease makes me sad. I’m keeping my hopes up though for a recovery and a relatively long life for him. Hang in there CC and keep your chin up!
The bad thing about a horse that is a jokester and has a mischievous tiny brain is that they go from listless to bucking around in a flash. I had a paint stud years ago that impaled his leg with a t-post. He got to showing off for the neighbor mares, bucked, and his rear leg came right down on a post. A 6" deep huge puncture. We had to be very careful with meds because if he felt even a tiny bit of pain relief he'd proceed to jump around and open everything back up. Skelly seems like he's the same way. It's so hard to make them rest and heal. You've done an amazing thing with Skell!!! Your patience is also amazing. Hugs

It is very obvious how much Skeletor loves & trusts you. He's a sweetheart for sure. I've been part of large cat colonies for most of my life; kidney disease is terrible in cats. From sad experience, I learned that the worst thing a caregiver can do is to condemn/force treat thru extreme methods an animal to misery and suffering just to say you kept them alive. It's a hard lesson to learn.....😢
Being able to end the suffering of a pet is such a comfort, though it means saying goodbye. We know this decision may be waiting for us to make when we welcome that new member of our family. At least we can do this for our pets. I fervently wish our society could evolve to allowing us to make this choice for ourselves.
Great care for Skeletor. Eons ago I rubbed a 2 year old champion. We were getting her ready for her three year old campaign and she developed a swollen place on a tendon. Never bothered her, but we could not diagnose it or get it to come down. I worked for the man who trained the great Ruffian. My champ went to the farm to begin her life as a broodmare. Whew! All the best to you and Skeletor.
Just read William Nack's book, Ruffian, A Racetrack Romance. Nack wrote descriptively and was very heartfelt talking about the very young Ruffian. Skeletor is in tremendously loving hands and I am sure that Ruffian and all horses are telepathicallly in tune to each other in some way.
It broke my heart to see him in so much pain. I hate seeing anyone, animal or human, suffer. I pray that he has a long and pain free life. I am also so thankful that you truly care about the animals in your care. God bless you.

The stress level of trying to keep the animals we love healthy through a degenerative condition is immense. Walking that line of life and death in our minds is a constant. Trying everything we can think of to help. In the end, it is what it is...we deal with what comes. We give them the best life we can. In your case, you give them a life they would never have had both in quality and quantity. I feel such joy watching skeletor enjoy life so fully and my heart breaks to think of that ending. Skeletor is such a gem. And if I may quote the original. " I dare anything. I am skeletor. " He will always give it his best shot. The way Skelly looks now compared to when he came home with you is night and day. It hurts my heart that this beautiful creature is hurting but I am very happy that he is in loving and knowledgeable hands. I wish him continued happiness and health. I have had pets with life long chronic health issues..and we did what we could for them always, while always gaging their quality of life. I know you will do the same for skele. I hope he continues to improve and has many happy days ahead of him.

It would be an absolute shame for him to have DSL, but he could be a nice, little kooky, pasture pet and ;you are probably the best person to be his owner if that were to be the case, because I know you'll do right by him either way. Have you ever used Uptight for tendons? White clay basically the same thing as your black goop, same sweat bandaging. We used it at the track a lot. Bit of a mess to remove though. Hosing plus sponge scrubbing involved. Thoroughbreds having healthy, happy legs is kinda important! lol
This is so depressing; I hate it when animals are ill. I wish there was something we all could do for Skeletor he deserves a good life considering his past.
I really hope that those few "high brow" mostly msle horse trainers I've pointed to your channel are paying attention to you because in my opinion (I've had "everyday" horses most of my 73 years on this planet), you are a horse trainers' trainer.

The area alone is such a difficult area to treat and also to enable sufficient healing time necessary as a horse is in constant motion and having to weight bare. Its an incredible job you are doing CC! It's not just the time and care you put in , but the absolute tenacity to help make sure your horses have the best quality out of life in regards to their health and wellbeing. Thanks for sharing CC. It is incredibly sad to see Skel not his usual self however on the positive side this video may help others to identify and or help advise and teach observational skills on what to look out for. Spreading awareness and knowledge is invaluable especially with your treasures so thank you CC! Hopefully it'll spur on more on the topic of ligament damage and other common hereditary diseases whereby other alternative treatments are push forward in the future..you never know. CC I have been in your position so many times when I had my horses and you get to love them so much that it is unthinkable that you cannot keep them safe and sound always. I hope Skelator improves enough to live at pasture at the least.
It's so unspeakably sad when medication begins to be as detrimental as the condition it treats. Mort was so lucky to have you as are all of your horses. You give your all whether it's time, attention, veterinary care, special food, careful rehabilitation and bringing them along slow so they can be the best they can possibly be and have a good life. I salute you CC and all that you do and all that you are.
This ability you described may be the one human element that might be what our species can use to better understand the mystery of being and the conundrum of existence. There comes a time when all of what we may know is less than we could know and it may be a time when intuition and our heart may help fill the gaps. 'The bigger the bonfire the more darkness is revealed'.

Whole-hearted wishes for Skelly's recovery. You made it possible for him to be a magnificent horse, and long may that continue. Very encouraging to see him wanting to play. What has changed recently that could cause this? Do you think he misses being at the barn? Does anyone else feed him or give the mare treats? Just racking my brain for reasons, as you must have been doing. Hard to see how he could pickup a virus when he is so isolated, but maybe. A long and happy life for Skeletor and good luck for you both.
On the lighter side, Some of us have seen Skellys short video of him dancing, maybe him and the neighbor girl are dancing under the moonlight and now his legs hurt. :)
He lives in the moment, he will have good days and slow days. You have done amazing things for him . He is living his best life possible for him and his condition. I understand your situation. I for my ESA support K-9 I always adopt senior and dogs nobody wants that have been at the Bucks County SPCA for a long time. I believe that every dog and every horse has one true owner that really understands there issues and conditions fully. That owner will keep the animal as comfortable and healthy as possible with in there ability help. When the owner has exhausted all options and the animal is not comfortable anymore . Then the owner knows the only option is the last act of kindness so the animal doesn't suffer. It's hard very hard but when the owner knows it's time it's the best thing the owner can do. I have known some of my dogs longer than others . I have adopted them at different stages of there lives. I would not change anything. They have made my life better for them being in my life even if they had special needs. I am thankful that they have shared there life with me and I was able to help them know they were loved and cared for until they took there last breath. It is all worth every moment spent in there presents. I always remember to take each day as it comes. Take any challenges one at a time a by the numbers and enjoy the time with them it so precious. The stress level of trying to keep the animals we love healthy through a degenerative condition is immense. Walking that line of life and death in our minds is a constant. Trying everything we can think of to help. In the end, it is what it is...we deal with what comes. We give them the best life we can. In your case, you give them a life they would never have had both in quality and quantity. I feel such joy watching skeletor enjoy life so fully and my heart breaks to think of that ending. Skeletor is such a gem. And if I may quote the original. " I dare anything. I am skeletor. " He will always give it his best shot. Have you ever used Uptight for tendons? White clay basically the same thing as your black goop, same sweat bandaging. We used it at the track a lot. Bit of a mess to remove though. Hosing plus sponge scrubbing involved. Thoroughbreds having healthy, happy legs is kinda important! lol

Sorry to hear about Skelator CC. Sending good vibes and healing prayers your way and hope it was just a fluke virus. The area alone is such a difficult area to treat and also to enable sufficient healing time necessary as a horse is in constant motion and having to weight bare. Its an incredible job you are doing CC! It's not just the time and care you put in , but the absolute tenacity to help make sure your horses have the best quality out of life in regards to their health and wellbeing. Thanks for sharing CC. It is incredibly sad to see Skel not his usual self however on the positive side this video may help others to identify and or help advise and teach observational skills on what to look out for. Spreading awareness and knowledge is invaluable especially with your treasures so thank you CC! Hopefully it'll spur on more on the topic of ligament damage and other common hereditary diseases whereby other alternative treatments are push forward in the future..you never know. In the meantime time sending love, healing energy to Skel and many prayers 🙏❤
CC I have been in your position so many times when I had my horses and you get to love them so much that it is unthinkable that you cannot keep them safe and sound always. I hope Skelator improves enough to live at pasture at the least.

You give your all whether it's time, attention, veterinary care, special food, careful rehabilitation and bringing them along slow so they can be the best they can possibly be and have a good life. Whole-hearted wishes for Skelly's recovery. You made it possible for him to be a magnificent horse, and long may that continue. Very encouraging to see him wanting to play. What has changed recently that could cause this? Do you think he misses being at the barn? Does anyone else feed him or give the mare treats? Just racking my brain for reasons, as you must have been doing. Hard to see how he could pickup a virus when he is so isolated, but maybe. A long and happy life for Skeletor and good luck for you both.

On the lighter side, Some of us have seen Skellys short video of him dancing, maybe him and the neighbor girl are dancing under the moonlight and now his legs hurt. :)
He lives in the moment, he will have good days and slow days. You have done amazing things for him . He is living his best life possible for him and his condition. I understand your situation. I for my ESA support K-9 I always adopt senior and dogs nobody wants that have been at the Bucks County SPCA for a long time. I believe that every dog and every horse has one true owner that really understands there issues and conditions fully. That owner will keep the animal as comfortable and healthy as possible with in there ability help. When the owner has exhausted all options and the animal is not comfortable anymore . Then the owner knows the only option is the last act of kindness so the animal doesn't suffer. It's hard very hard but when the owner knows it's time it's the best thing the owner can do. I have known some of my dogs longer than others . I have adopted them at different stages of there lives. I would not change anything. They have made my life better for them being in my life even if they had special needs. I am thankful that they have shared there life with me and I was able to help them know they were loved and cared for until they took there last breath. It is all worth every moment spent in there presents. I always remember to take each day as it comes. Take any challenges one at a time a by the numbers and enjoy the time with them it so precious.
