RIP Paul Reubens, who created and starred as the character Pee-wee Herman on stage, television and the big screen, has died after a private bout of cancer. He was 70.
Pee Wee was a man way before his time. We who watched it in the late eighties were blessed. A bright moment in each week. Paul Reubens was such a pioneer. It's startling how well he his character still plays today. From Wikipedia: "Reubens, always trying to make Pee-wee a positive role model, sought to make a significantly moral show that would teach children the ethics of reciprocity." And it doesn't even mention why they abruptly stopped airing his shows.
I hate to burst your bubble, but, The show ended because he exposed himself on stage in front of children. I think alcohol or something was in his system at the time, But i don't know the details much further than that. it was a long time ago. I'm not here to advocate against him or condone his mistake in anyway. I did however, enjoy his show quite a bit as a kid and I watched his movie too and enjoyed it a lot. All I will say further is that I hope he is in a better mental health than he was when he made that mistake and that no one was traumatized by that mistake.
@@ralphmueller3725 it was actually an indecent exposure charge which was filed when he was found at an adult theater touching himself. There were no children involved and he pleaded no contest to avoid a trial and national news coverage, of course that didn’t happen and he was dragged and CBS cancelled Peewee’s Playhouse. Very unfortunate how it all went down, but I don’t think he was in the wrong at all.
@@ralphmueller3725 You are incorrect. It was in an adult movie theater in Florida, i think. I always wondered with as much money as he had why did he do it there, if he did it at all. He claims he didn't.
I saw this movie on a Saturday night after playing organized football earlier in the day. We had won the game and wanted to celebrate. Almost in unison we decided on seeing peewee herman. I was 13. I loved this movie as well when I was a kid. I went years without watching due to life. I watched it again recently and I enjoyed it more than most movies I've seen as an adult.
That movie was incredible to me as a kid in the 80's. Man as an adult to think what went into making this movie what it ended up being. Tim Burton directed it! Man. Paul I wish I could have thanked you for the entertainment. I've watched that movie 100 times easy & loved it.
this scene is so iconic that the name of this song has forever been "the peewee herman song" in my household. RIP Paul. you created an iconic figure that spans across generations. we miss you!
This movie actually syncs up perfectly with Dark Side Of The Moon. I'm not even kidding. Put the album on repeat and start the movie exactly when the Warner Bros intro starts. The opening scene will begin exactly when the music kicks in. Balloons float up in the air when they sing "Breathe in the air". When he waits to be crowned for winning the race, they sing "please don't leave me" as everyone around Pee-Wee runs away from him. He wakes up realizing it was a dream and looks around as they sing, "look around". Seconds later he sits up and puts on his bunny slippers to the lyrics "Run rabbit run". He does a quick workout with weights and puts them down as they sing "the work is done". The music matches the feel of the Rube Goldberg machine making his breakfast. He creepily laughs in the mirror with tape all over his face precisely with the man laughing in the song. And the bells begin chiming right when he steps outside his house. And that's all just in the first 5 minutes. I could list at least 30 more instances for the rest of the movie. Like when he walks into the Magic shop exactly when they sing "softly spoken magic spells". Or the man in the phone booth, hanging up and walking away to "Thought I'd something more to say". The bell logo on the wall behind him to "tolling of the iron bell". Him getting antsy trying to ask the tour guide to show him the basement while they sing "waiting for someone or something to show you the way". The dream about a dinosaur eating his bike right as the bells go off again. For real, I could keep going lol
Me and my mom saw this rescreened a few days ago at a packed theater, and the crowd participation was great. We all quoted some iconic lines and of course we clapped along to this scene. I’ll never forget that night!

I'd love to see a Pee-Wee dance-alike contest. Of course bonus points for making Pee-Wee sounds.
Jerma better be practicing this chat is going to hold him to it next time he shows up on camera.
Should be titled, “How to Win Friends and Influence People”.
great book
Good one. He did make a lot of friends along the way.

Rest in Peace brother, thanks for the memories!
Well said, and agreed.
@@ralphmueller3725
You are incorrect. It was in an adult movie theater in Florida, i think. I always wondered with as much money as he had why did he do it there, if he did it at all. He claims he didn't.
I loved watching pee-wee’s playhouse every Saturday morning as a teen
I saw this movie on a Saturday night after playing organized football earlier in the day. We had won the game and wanted to celebrate. Almost in unison we decided on seeing peewee herman. I was 13. The next monday the coaches were scratching their heads wondering why the entire fooball team was dancing funny in pads and helmets. Great memories. RIP Pee Wee.
God I miss him already.. Such an amazing soul taken away too soon. Rest in peace, you gave me lots of great memories growing up.
Thanks for the memories Pee Wee. RIP to a legend.
Brings back memories. We did the peewee Herman dance like crazy. Even football players did it after touchdowns.
Yep, I'll admit it I did! 😂
I remember watching Pee Wee’s Playhouse as a kid, I’d admit I didn’t understand much of what was going on but the way he looked, acted, spoke & laughed kept me entertained!
Thanks for the memories! R.I.P.
Fond memories of growing up in my early 30's watching his show with such talented guests in Pee Wee's fun and surprising playhouse!
the actresses who says" I say you let me have him first" is Cassandra Peterson aka Elvira
@Freedom Isn'tFree she actually did playboy back in the 80s but unfortunately not in the elvira outfit (she's naturally a redhead) with a lot of Bush lol
Daniel Seth No Way!
@@BDX169 Yes way! Red Bush...Never shave a red or the very rare blonde...

Best part of the movie, from him saying " I'm trying to use the phone" to " I say let him go" then the brilliant Pee Wee dance just makes me laugh and feel great every time and of course thi knof this scene every time this song is played. Such an awesome comic actor . Thanks for sharing this 😂😂😂👏👏👏❤❤❤❤
Another piece of my childhood gone. RIP Paul and thanks for bringing laugher and joy into this world.

He was/is a comedy - still can't figure out why was he destroyied. For what ?
@@lorenzomagazzeni5425: You *really* don't know????
Note that at the time of his arrest, he was starring in a kid's TV show called Pee-Wee's Playhouse. Note also that his career *might've* survived had this happened back during his HBO days.

RIP Paul. Thanks for the laughter and the memories !!!!
RIP Paul he is with Large Marge now
Rest In Peace, Pee-Wee! Thanks for giving us all the laughs over the decades. RIP Paul Rubenfeld (August 27, 1952 - July 30, 2023).
This never fails to make me laugh. RIP Mr. Rubens.
This was my favorite movie as a child in the 80's, I watched it every day and still watch it to this date, LOVE Pee Wee 😊
I thought I was the only 1 who watched Pee Wee Hermon repeatedly like that. I watched this movie so much I broke my VHS tape!🤣
Same
I loved this movie as well when I was a kid. I went years without watching due to life. I watched it again recently and I enjoyed it more than most movies I've seen as an adult.
In Pee Wee's voice: "I'm a loner Dottie." Always made me giggle hard!
Great memories watching this with my dad. Thanks for the laughs, Paul. ❤
That movie was incredible to me as a kid in the 80's.
Man as an adult to think what went into making this movie what it ended up being. Tim Burton directed it!
Man.
Paul I wish I could have thanked you for the entertainment. I've watched that movie 100 times easy & loved it.
“IM TRYING TO USE THE PHONE!!!” Lol
Lmao
RIP Mr Reubens Thank you for the joy and laughter you brought to all of us
RIP Pee-wee Herman. Thank you for the childhood memories you provided me when I was growing up.
The greatest 🕺 solo ever! Thank you Pee Wee Herman for all the wonderful epic memories.
Still my favorite scene. RIP Paul.
Paul Reubens has always been a complete genius. Much respect!
I know you are but what am I?
this scene is so iconic that the name of this song has forever been "the peewee herman song" in my household. RIP Paul. you created an iconic figure that spans across generations. we miss you!
Gone but never forgotten. Rest in peace Pee Wee Herman.
Keep going
That's funny because Phil Hartman joked about listening to Dark Side of the Moon in the Newsradio sitcom and he co-wrote this movie.
How high were you when you figured this out?
Thank you for giving me plans for this weekend 💜
Put on wizard of Oz and hit play as soon as the lion in the mgm opening turns his head to roar twice. Syncs way better
RIP PAUL! You will be missed! Thanks for all the laughs!
Me and my mom saw this rescreened a few days ago at a packed theater, and the crowd participation was great. We all quoted some iconic lines and of course we clapped along to this scene. I’ll never forget that night!
As a kid, I died laughing to this whole movie.
