homesick for Nunavut. I first grew in Igloolik, where Pakak is from and then in Iqaluit and Niaqunngut where this was filmed. beautiful

I love this video... I think my grandfather Celestine Erkidjuk would of really liked it too.. because of how slow and calm he drummed his drum compared to other people drumming

Hello, very beautiful!! I have a Question about Inuit lore. I was curious if someone can help me. I am a Master's student researching the legend of the Grandfather who made a knife...It is a story told by an Anthropologist here in the U.S. I am trying to find a primary source or insight in general.

Celia Brandt My cohorts and myself are researching a legend told to an anthropologist, Dr.Wade Davis. Evidently, the grandchildren of this man, during the 1950s (a time when Inuit culture was being suppressed), took the old man's things in an effort to get him to give up his old ways. That night he slipped out onto the ice, fashioned a weapon out of his feces and killed one of his dogs. He fashioned a harness and sled from that carcass, and used the remaining dog to slip away into the night. I know it sounds very sketchy, but it seems that Dr. Davis was pointing out the resilience of the Inuit...the way they utilize their environment. I am trying to find a primary source of this legend.

Maybe depressing for you and so sorry you feel that way.
For many Inuit is a way to express and share their stories, gain skills and knowledge.
Many songs are sacred for them and deeply rooted in their culture. These practices are healing and helped Inuit to live in their hardship throughout long winters and more!

@Sindri Már Smárason These songs are ancient , so they were there even before the contact with the colonizers. I'm very sorry for your ignorance. If you really knew the real causes, it wouldn't be this easy for you to comment on that matter.
