This is a mashup of the teddy coat and the shacket with a utilitarian vibe! I have also included a pattern for you .
You can easily tweak this pattern to make the trendy Shirt Jacket by removing some pockets and rounding the hem. Or you can make the cropped Shacket by shortening the length. Stay tuned to the end to see how easily its done!

Materials (amounts based on size small, see pattern instructions for other sizes)
2 yds Sherpa, Flannel, Wool, Fleece (always get a bit extra in case of cutting mistakes)
1 yd Lining - I used Bemberg but a less slippery option would be some cotton sateen, fine linen or tencel
1 yd Fusing - Fusable Interfacing, use a press cloth so you don’t ruin your iron or iron board
135 in Bias Binding
7 buttons (1”- 11/8” diameter)
4 buttons (3/4” diameter)
This couldn't have come at a better time. I'm making this jacket, but 2 pockets less, from the fabric on my couch. Phenomal, this is such a treat.

This looks amazing - although would this be a bold project for a domestic sewing machine, as it can get quite bulky at times from what I see it the video?? i’d really like to get this pattern but don,t want to be stuck half project with something I can’t finish!!
I'm actually sewing on now with a wool blanket and it's very bulky definitely a challenge but if your machine is strong enough to sew without breaking needles then you should be fine. Try layering the fabric that you might use four times and sewing through it and seeing if that works if not then either use a lighter fabric to sew this or it may not be a project for your machine ☺️
This will take me months, but I'm gonna do this!

Hi Lydia, love this coat so much!! I've ordered wool to try and make my own, just waiting on the pattern :) I was wondering if it is possible to add wadding or something to make a coat really warm? Or would wool and a lining be enough? Hope you've had a good Christmas!
Thank you Katie! My Christmas was wonderful! I am tackling the pattern grading this month! You could definitely add another interlining. It is a roomy cut so it’s possible. But if you have a heavy closely woven wool it will probably be warm enough. :) this Sherpa coat is very cozy and warm!

Back in the day (1970s), the "shacket" was called a CPO jacket because they were based on the Chief Petty Officer jackets that were worn at that time.

I was thinking, could you do this with lining all over and in a fussy material - like yours - and like corduroy or something on the outside. Do you think that would become bulky?
That is definitely a possibility! The fit is quite roomy so it would work well!

Thank you! This one from start to finish was 3 weeks. I made 2 partial muslins and a full muslin to develop the pattern. The cutting and sewing of the final took 3 days( because I was filming it, it would take 1 and a half usually) . It was a lot of fun :)
It looks like the pocket flaps have both lining and interfacing, is that correct? The pattern says you need 4 self and 4 interfacing for the waist pockets plus 2 self for the chest pockets, but really you need 2 self, 2 interfacing, and 2 lining for each of the chest and waist pockets. yes?

hot hot hot!!! looks gr8 on u and ur husband, derek zoolander. I am curious about ur schooling + if you prefer draping or flat patterning? Theres some things i never got to in school, like vents n collar stands like this one. But worry not, im TH-cam Certified!!!!!
Hahah thank you!! I like both draping and flat patterning. I love the detail and predictability of flat patterning but I also love the freedom and fit accuracy of draping. I just don't have the proper dress form yet! I am so glad i could teach some things you didn't get to learn. I did a lot of jackets and coats in my final year so I got the hang of it, more to come!!
