Hello Terry and River. Man old man winter just doesn't want to quit up there in Minnesota. My Dad was born and raised in Littlefork, Minnesota up near International Falls. I appreciate all of your videos. Guess you're loving your retirement. Thanks for another video buddy. Take care, stay safe, be aware of your surroundings.
River Dog chasing squirrels reminded me of something I saw many years ago. A very large cat started chasing a Red Fox Squirrel. The squirrel; started running in a circle, making the circle smaller each time around. Finally, the circle got to tight for the cat and when the cats feet went out from under it, the squirrel whipped around and tore the cat up real bad. I hope River Dog doesn't do that. I'll admit it, I enjoyed watching that squirrel tear up that cat, and I like cats. Oh well. ;-)

Great Video! Funny thing about the squirrel, years ago my Schnauzer used to chase squirrels all the time. One day, a squirrel lost its balance and fell from the tree (never saw that before). It landed right on top of her....needless to say they we're so startled all they could do was stand there and stare at each other. Then they both jumped and took off running away from each other. The only suggestion I got About when you do maple syrup When you drill your holes Into the tree You need more of a downward angle on it So it makes the sap flow a little bit easier out of it I noticed you're going in 90 ° angle You need more of a downward angle When you draw Into the tree
Thanks for the tip. I know I need to drill in 2-2.5" but how deep do you usually put the tap in? All the way or more just towards the front of the hole?
Congratulations on your retirement! And for your service! Good luck on all your new adventures! Arent you going to miss getting up early and figure out how to be in 3 places at once? Haha When i retired, i missed some of my coworkers n officers I worked it (I worked with crime victims). You kind of take me back to my childhood. My Grandfather had a sugarbush, so naturally we’d spend some time out there while he was making syrup. It does need to be a little warmer for the sap to flow. A couple of thoughts mark your trees this summer so you know which ones are maples and if you still have the blocks from your last evaporator lay a course of those down to set your new evaporator on. This will keep it from freezing into the ground and help direct the draft up the stack. PS my wife was ready to head off to Minnesota to have lunch with you, brats mustard onions and kraut is her type of food. Very good video Thank you!

Good afternoon my brother Matthew and I are actually watching your video post right now. I really like the balance of what you put out here. Easy-going but yet interesting and teachable applications. On your outdoor stove in order to have a good draw you have to have it enclosed. That would mean maybe a door I'm hinges and a top. You probably could have the option to put a small grill on top I know it's not a nice little opening. It would be your option to put a small little grill on top of it for a flat piece of steel. That way you would would have a good draw. I learned a lesson from our renowned McDuffie Schoolhouse Cabin. It was built in 18 61. There's still a lot of work to do to restore. It was still an active s chool to 1950. Anyway later on in the 1970s it was auction to the public to buy. It was then a fireplace was added. It was a very cool rustic design with a big opening with a round top. Long story short the ratio of the opening to the chimney was too big. We eventually fix that. Getting back to your awesome videos. This is just the right flavor for Matt and I to watch together. You're just making sauerkraut backwards. That's right up my alley with a little bit of dill pickle and muster. Time to get back to your awesome video. Whoops you just showed Alaska old school style snowshoes. I want a pair just like them. Keep those videos coming. We are your faithful followers !!! 💙💙

@@mikemckinley1031 I was a K9 handler for 10 years in my Career but River was just a companion. When I had to put down my last PSD I swore I’d never have another dog. My son finally convinced me to get another and of course River had always been my boy
LOL about the wife! I have some bricks but they are under 2.5 feet of snow! Definitely need to do some marking next summer
I'm in Minnesota as well - worst winter driving conditions ever this year. I got stuck in snow numerous times and had to get towed twice. I'm ready for warm weather
OMG! Me too! Except here come the flooding!
Excellent again my friend. I have to carry plenty of extra blades for my drone. I learned early on why drone pilots say “trees are dicks”. Good luck come with the syrup. My P.O. Box is in the description of my videos lol.
HAHA! Literally laughed out loud reading this..... I've thought about the P.O. Bx has it been a good experience for you? thanks for the visit Joe!
@@TRERUNSWILD It has been as far as a way for people to send license plated for The Barn Beam License Plate Project, but that’s all. If I was one of those channels that advertise it receive. “gifts” and donations it would probably be worth it, But, I don’t do the ebegging like so many others are starting to do. If not for the plates, I probably wouldn’t have it. I can’t have things shipped to it, and I finally have a street address out there.
@@StBernardAcres do you have a z Minnesota plate yet?
@TRE RUNS-WILD I do. My wife's family is from Winona. I put up plates, though, regardless if I have others. It's a great way to do shout-outs and highlight other channels. Feel free to add one of yours and become a permanent part of the barn. Especially with the syrup lol
@@StBernardAcres send me an address and lll shoot you one I know you won’t have!
Love this post! Thanks to and Matt! That's good info about the stove. I'll make some mods. Interesting about adding the grill part. I clearly need to think bigger and more purpose. Thanks for the kind words, I'm very glad to have you part of the channel family!
One more entry and I'll let you go for the day LOL. Man and I watched several of your videos today. We got a taste of every season. Wow I absolutely love your setup. A beautiful cabin a matching shed in a good stack of wood nice and organized and protected. I also love your attitude when things don't get right you're even keel. No doubt God molded you to be a policeman. I feel you're a man of Faith man. I also can feel your excitement now that you're retired. Lookout followers put your safety belt on this is going to be a wild ride and we'll enjoy every minute of it

New subscriber this is my second video of yours. I love the night shots. That one with the stars. So beautiful
Welcome!!! I’m glad you like the shots. The night sky absent of any light pollution is amazing. I want to convey that sense of wonder, amazement and feeling so small. I’m not sure I’ll ever get good enough to do that. I appreciate that you noticed!
The swirling stars were absolutely amazing. You did an awesome job.
Lol! I probably would've tapped all trees, but the maple ones! I laughed along 😅 Never seen such a vast amount of snow in person. I think is beautiful. Like the fact that you like mustard. I do too 😊 River looks silly/cute with his face covered in snow, lol. Love your videos, pls do not stop making them!
Ahh, thanks Leslye! I'm glad you are here!
Great star lapse!
Finally...someone noticed! thank you for that!

Love your videos Terry they are great...River Dog is really a good dog...my dream is to have a place like yours...take care keep the videos coming
Thank you Jeff. I was at the point where I was going to trade in my car and decided to drive it longer and put the car payment into land. Little by little as money came I added on. You can do this.
Hey Terry, Thanks for the great video! Hope you’re adjusting well to retirement. Sounds like you’ll stay plenty busy, which is the key. Take care & stay safe!
Hi Steve!. It still kind of just feels like on vacation. Once the snow goes things will really get busy.
Nice thanks for sharing
Thanks Kyle. Always good to hear from you
From one 70 vintage guy to another : I appreciate what you’re doing ! Two videos in one week. The content and approach ! I’m lovin it ! And from a Maine boy to a Minnesota boy I feel your pain ! Lol. Take care T !
Thanks Tony!
Again good stuff. Always look forward to new videos from you Terry. It makes me excited about going to my own family's cabin in the Cascade Mountains
I've never been to that area of the U.S. It's on my list. I bet you have an amazing place
Hi Terry. Thanks for the cool video. Seems to cold there for syrup to run. I have done Maple syrup as a teenager with my dad on his small 100 acre farm in upstate NY. It is just like Mn. Just more hills and humidity. Hope you are enjoying retirement! I just got a new Biewer puppy. I lost my lil fur boy to cancer in Oct. He was Mia diagnosed by three vets here in Northern NJ. I found a wonderful vet now! He is 1pd 9 oz. & will be 6 pds fully grown. Enjoy!🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s
Hi Laura! I've never heard of a Biewer! I'll have to google it. I had to laugh when you said small 100 acre farm. Of course you are talking farming and making a living but I can't imagine having 100 acres!
@@TRERUNSWILD Oh, In Upstate NY farming is big! I had 3 Labrador Retrievers as an adult. So my deceased husband was a bird hunter & we had AKC bred dogs. So… my puppy is a newer AKC breed of a Yorkshire. Very intelligent, calm, playful & beautiful.
I hope spring shows up soon. Good luck with your maple sap season.
Sounds like it will arrive this weekend and come all at once. It's going to be wet!
Great video Terry!!! When you were flying the drone I see a lot of lakes for you to fish this year. You are going to have a fun summer. The food looked really good. Take care buddy be safe.
Thanks Bud! Yeah there is like 20 lakes within 5 miles of the shack.
Nice video
Thanks Mustang! Always good ti hear from you!
Your cabin's interior is beautiful. Love it. 💕
Thank you! 🤗
Still have 4 feet of snow in Lake county. You and I are going to need muck boots to get around the rest of the month.
No shit Troy! I was thinking about a kayak video into the cabin with these 60F days coming.
Hey Terry.. I would love to do the syrup thing. Also I saw a tic toc.. the guy blew air into the pails and they came apart easy. Guess u would need an air compressor. Just thought I’d pass it along
Oh funny! I actually saw that too! Great idea but yes, I do not have electric or a compressor at the land. I appreciate the heads up... I';m always looking for easier ways for life.
@@TRERUNSWILD that’s hilarious 😂

Glad Jay got the blower going and I missed one of the boys?

If you have a rivet gun you could attach a piece of metal to upper part of your sap cooker.
I do not have a rivet gun. Maybe I should get one?
I recognize both your sweatshirts … first one from Superior trail races? Awesome night sky shot! ❤ while I was watching the vid a MPR noticed flashed on my phone saying the maple syrup run will be late the year….is it odd or is it God ?!? 😏
I'm hoping this week it will go. As of today, nothing yet. ugh. SO GLAD I"M NOT RUNNING ZUMBRO this weekend!!!!
I love your cabin Tre, so cozy.
Thanks Dawn. So far I'm pretty happy with it.
I'm in the same situation with the maple sap. I've only collected a half a gallon. The big storm just cleared out and going to get warm this weekend. Hopefully get enough to boil down. Bring on warm weather!!!

If you have an air compressor and an air hose getting 2 stuck buckets apart takes 3 seconds. Look it up
Lol! I just saw that on TikTok of all places!!
Tre, love your stuff! What is the size of your cabin (interior) again? I know its been mentioned on previous videos but I can't find it quick. Thanks!
It is 12x22. The porch is 10x12. Thanks for spending time with us!
You must go through a lot of soy sauce hey!😂
LOL! I got them for $3 at my local chinese restaurant. Cheap and food grade so I couldn't resist!
LOL, tap an oak tree!
Dang! Those trees are hard to identify without leaves! LOL!

Hey Bud!
Sooo much snow that will be melting soon. Will that be a problem with ur beautiful cabin?
Yes, I'm afraid it might be. I had some overland flooding last spring that did not affect the cabin. This week it will go from 25 to 65 degrees F. I'm a little worried.

are you planning on updating the solar system?
I'm planning on adding another 100 watt panel which I have and another 250 AH vmax battery. Which I don't have. But so far it's working well for my needs.
@@TRERUNSWILD Thats really awesome! We’re doing an upgrade to our system at the heritage site. We have two 350W panels with two 250AH AMG batteries but our all in one controller fried. We upgraded to a new Renogy charge controller and inverter. We’re just waiting for the snow to melt to get access to our site, for the install.
With a blade for snow or grade your road what do you offer?
