We just installed our stove and we were on the struggle bus trying to figure it out. We put a wire mesh cap at the top to “keep out the critters”… it was COMPLETELY blocked off by creosote after only two burns. We had to leave the tent because we couldn’t get the stove to draft right. Smoke EVERYWHERE... That might not be the case for your stove but worth a look if you do have a mesh on top. 😖🫣 FB marketplace would be a good place to look for a new stove if you can’t figure it out. There have been some stellar deals lately. Hopefully Hunting has been good for you and your crew! 🦌 Have a great day Terry! 😊🌲❤️
OOH. that sounds really bad. I have a typical chimney cap. Wet wood burns with more creosote, I'm learning that with the downed wood I'm trying to burn. Maybe I'll try some super small and dry stuff? I called the hunt today. Everything is moving at night and I'm too bored sitting all day.
We have a Drolet Spark 2 shipped to us from Canada. Great, affordable stove. Look at the Drolet Escape 1200, likely plenty big enough for the bunkhouse even in deep winter and $999
For someone that doesn't know what he's doing, your words, things are looking great!! Nice work on the stairs, one try and done. The bunk house looks great painted. 🇺🇸🇺🇸 Stay safe!!
Get a Drolet Spark wood stove from L&M Supply. I think they are under $1k and they have a nice front to back loading firebox about the same size as your Jotul 602.
😅Buy a Drolet Spark II $997 and built in Canada. I bought mine 2 years ago through a US supplier via the internet. It's good up to 1200 sq ft. I bought a second one to install in our cabin next year. It's fantastic and I highly recommend it. I'm in the North Woods of Maine and it's a life saver.
I have something in common with River, I’m a geriatric too! Napping every 20 minutes sounds like a plan to me😉. When your drill caught on fire it gave me deja vu because once a few years back I was using an electric mixer and it started smoking and had flames coming out as well 😂. The stairs for the bunk house turned out great so you must know what your doing ❤️✌🏻
Thanks for the video Terry ! For a stove you might want to check out Northwoods Fabrication in Fairmount, MN. David Steinke makes a great stove and has supplied them to several off-grid TH-cam creators. I think it has been his primary marketing tool. I have his larger propane stove. Compare the weight of his stoves to others. They are thick steel and the craftsmanship is outstanding. BTW, I got the Skill circular saw I am currently using for $15 at Habitat for Humanity Re-Store in Grand Rapids, MN. It's an older worm drive saw that is a beast. It uses 13 amps but my 2,000 watt Predator inverter generator will run it just fine.
Yeah i should check out some alternative stoves. They would probably have a better selection of small ones. Seems the tiny ones are a bit harder to find
Ely MN here, haven't had to shovel or plow in 3 years. Snow/ actual cold are pretty rare now. Even the ground hasn't frozen here in the last 2 years. Unless you have a steep metal roof, it's probably good for the one or two little freezing rain/slush storms we get eh.
The place is looking great! I'm sure being in Minnesota you can find a decent used wood stove. I have 3 stoves in different buildings. All Vermont castings and didnt get any of them new. I'm in NY. Even bought one at a thrift store, it was right by the front door for months the people said.
I would keep that stove for now. You got a heckuva deal on it. You will probably get used to it and who knows how much the bunkhouse will be used during cold season. Good job on the stairs. Hopefully you and Hunter can drop a couple of nice bucks. Good luck Terry!
Lots of good cheap $100 & up " woodstoves on F.B marketplace. Sand, and paint, perhaps firebrick. I got a great one $150...quick refurb. Heats my 30×14" cabin perfectly. You the man buddy.
2 years ago, my wife and I saw a dead baer on the side of the road 2 miles from our cabin in Brainerd mn. That was right after we saw a smaller baer bolt in front of us, almost hitting it. We assumed that it was the mother that was dead in the ditch.
Hey Terry! Bunkhouse looks great. So nice to see the tarp up again on the woodpile. Love seeing the fire glowing in the woodstove..not so much in the saw😊 Great job on the stairs. Cheers to you and RD from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🫶
A strip of tar paper or whatever water shield you have left over can be put under your stairs treads on top of each stringer surface so they will not rot as fast over time with water penetrating the cut surface there.
Fix this curtain on the shed with wood, because the left side has detached and cover the pile of wood you have arranged with something so that the wood does not get wet from above.
@ Sqeeze in just doing the footings before the ground freezes. As for the rest of the deck it doesn’t matter. Easy how I dole out work from my easy chair!😝😝😝
It wasn't super cheap but a year ago I got a solar weatherproof entry gland housing. It was about 30 bucks. It's worked well for me hooking up solar to charge my Bluetti. The brand is SolarEnz. I built a rainwater catchment system and will soon install a shower. Any idea how many watts your shower vent pulls?
Glad you are trying the foam insulation tube on the tree stand. Sorry if I did not say to put the burlap camo over the foam tube and then put the zip ties on over both of them. The fore arm of the gun may squeak on the foam without any kind of cloth cover. Not sure if you are able to get it under the existing burlap or not. Any soft camo material will work if not. My fault, sorry.
@TRERUNSWILD no problem. I did not want to see you have a big 12 PT. Out in front of you and a big squeak happens and you do not even get a chance to shoot. That would be terrible!
The problem with your saw is the insulation on the armature or the rotor. It happens when motor or driver is well used the insulation on the wires wears thin and they start shorting out causing smoke then flames!
I worked at an armature shop in high school. We rebuilt electric motors. Small to as big as I would have to walk into the rotor to install the windings ( wire). I had looked at L&M but didn't see any smaller stoves. Maybe they just weren't in stock when I looked. I'll look online at their website. Thanks!

place is looking great.....i just grabed the us stove 900. has a 19 inch woodbox.... but no glass... great work Terry
Thanks for coming along!
That is not good 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 it is on fire 🔥🔥🔥🚒🚒🚒🔥🔥🔥🔥
It did not survive!
Good luck deer hunting Terry !
Always projects to do at a cabin . Looking good .
Nothing for the freezer so far but the weather is mild so there is lots of time still.
Sweet shack! Leaves are still green!!!
Thanks. I hope they stay that way a while longer!

Geez! You must have been baking up a storm! That would freak me out a little being in the house!
@@TRERUNSWILD 😂🤣
Need to mount your kindling splitter.
So true! It was and then the log bolts pulled out of the stump as it got soft. Another one of those little things i keep passing by
Buy a brushless so it'll last. Get the battery off before it goes.
I did buy the new brushless. I feel like it runs a bit different. Maybe lag? Works though and that is what counts.
Bunk house looks amazing
Thanks. Still lots to do but it’s shaping up to be
Well thank you for showing me the dead bear I don't know why you're touching it.
That seems kind of gross road kill cafe😅😅
LOL!. If you only knew some of the dead rotten things I've had to touch over my life time. At least this was an animal.
Thanks for the video Terry !

I’d put some guards up on the roof to block the snow when it starts to slid off so it doesn’t take your chimney down
I’m hoping the brace will be enough along with the tight fit?
Ely MN here, haven't had to shovel or plow in 3 years. Snow/ actual cold are pretty rare now. Even the ground hasn't frozen here in the last 2 years. Unless you have a steep metal roof, it's probably good for the one or two little freezing rain/slush storms we get eh.
Yeah, it has been some warmer winters lately. Definitely not what I remember when I was a kid. Do you remember when people actually snowmobiled?
@ yes I was one of them got out of it few yrs back did it for over 50 yrs
Terry, you might consider putting a tarp or old rubber mat (or something) to cover the stairs. That way you don't have to shovel snow off the steps.
I’d probably still have to shovel to get to the tarp in big snows but it would keep the ice off at keast
thank you for sharing
You are welcome! I am glad you are along for the ride!
$2K doe a good stove? Wow they got expensive since I was a little boy in the high arctic. Great video. Always enjoy your videos.
For sure you can find them cheaper but the little ones are pretty expensive.
My daddy loved peanut butter toast. 💙
Can’t go wrong with plain old PB!
The place is looking great! I'm sure being in Minnesota you can find a decent used wood stove. I have 3 stoves in different buildings. All Vermont castings and didnt get any of them new. I'm in NY. Even bought one at a thrift store, it was right by the front door for months the people said.
I was looking at a small vermont casting. Really nice small stove but $1700. The smaller stoves are harder to come by it seems.
Nice video. Thank you.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I kept imagining that bear coming alive all of a sudden 😄
He was a little stinky so would really be a zombie bear!
I would keep that stove for now. You got a heckuva deal on it. You will probably get used to it and who knows how much the bunkhouse will be used during cold season. Good job on the stairs. Hopefully you and Hunter can drop a couple of nice bucks. Good luck Terry!
Maybe I just haven't learned it yet and there is a trick to it?
Good afternoon!! 🖐😎👍
Afternoon amigo
Glad the solar is charging up now. New meaning to the song You Are My Sunshine......"please don't take my sunshine away". Good luck hunting!
Yeah, i was worried my charge controller was going bad. Really didn’t want to spend another couple Hundo on one
@@TRERUNSWILD lol @ hundo. Never heard that before and now I'm gonna start using it.
Don't butt your stair treads together. You need a small air space between them so they don't rot. 8d or 16d nail is good.
Oh! I’ll fix that when i add the last tread tomorrow
Lots of good cheap $100 & up " woodstoves on F.B marketplace. Sand, and paint, perhaps firebrick. I got a great one $150...quick refurb. Heats my 30×14" cabin perfectly. You the man buddy.
I havent looked much used but that’s a good idea. The biggest issue is the space is so small and the little stoves are spendy.?
@TRERUNSWILD Just set a search..you will get alerts. Give River Dog some extra hugzz buddy.
I didnt even know you could do that! I will!
Nice job on the solar wiring and your enjoying your retirement
It feels like another lifetime ago that i was working!
Good vid.
Thanks 😊
2 years ago, my wife and I saw a dead baer on the side of the road 2 miles from our cabin in Brainerd mn. That was right after we saw a smaller baer bolt in front of us, almost hitting it. We assumed that it was the mother that was dead in the ditch.
Oh that’s sad. Hopefully the yearling was old enough to make it on its own
@TRERUNSWILD for what I remember, I think it was.
OMG! That poor little bear😩
Yeah. Double sad that no one made use of it.
Great video Terry! Loved watching the progress. It looks like you're well prepared for winter.
I hope so...it's coming quick!
Hey Terry! Bunkhouse looks great. So nice to see the tarp up again on the woodpile. Love seeing the fire glowing in the woodstove..not so much in the saw😊 Great job on the stairs. Cheers to you and RD from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🫶
I'm glad you liked it! I think the stairs will be a real help. I kept imagine rolling an ankle hopping down on the cut logs!
You’re saw let the magic smoke out 😂
you betcha!
That skull will look good in the camp, looks like every thing is progressing nicely, atb
Yeah, It would be kind of a neat thing for the shelf
Looking awesome up there!👏🏽
Thanks. 2 deer in the yard tonight. Hopefully they bring the boys in
Awesome video , thanks for sharing !!!!! 🙏👍😊❤️
I'm glad you liked it!
@TRERUNSWILD we love all of them , wish I was closer to be able to give you a hand ! You are awesome , so is River Dog !!!!!
Hey, funnyman and river 🐕. Nice video stairs look great. Good luck with deer season I think that's what you call it😂
Thanks. Yep, the hunting starts this weekend
A strip of tar paper or whatever water shield you have left over can be put under your stairs treads on top of each stringer surface so they will not rot as fast over time with water penetrating the cut surface there.
Yeah, that would be a good idea.
@@TRERUNSWILD Also, put a brick or rock under the portion of the stringer that contacts the dirt so they don't rot. Probably should've used PT wood.
I used pT ground contact boards. They are just temporary in that place but I will use them for deck stairs eventually.
Thanks For Great Video! Good Luck This Weekend!!!
Thanks for watching and good luck to you too if you're going out
@@TRERUNSWILD Thanks, it looks like we will be nice and warm on opening weekend!

Loved the video Terry. Always enjoyable! Thanks my friend for sharing.
Really enjoy your videos!
I'm glad you like them!
Hey Terry. I love this kind of video where you do a lot of different things. You seem to be prepared for winter. Have a safe & fun week. 🤗
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Fix this curtain on the shed with wood, because the left side has detached and cover the pile of wood you have arranged with something so that the wood does not get wet from above.
Oh I made the left side to do that so I can get behind it to reach the wood.
HA ha! Love the choice of words for the title of this video. Change is on it's way my friend. This January can't come soon enough!
You got that right!
❤😊❤😊❤😊. I always fun to hang with y’all as well!
😁😁
Hi Tree, you nailed that tarp crooked. The right side is higher than the left and it doesn't look very nice.🤔😀
I noticed that too.
Great video, as always. Can’t wait to see the hunting. Good luck!
Thanks! I'm getting excited for it too.
With as many things you are putting off until Spring, you better hope Springs lasts until September!😮😮😊😊😊
I could do the deck in the winter after hunting I suppose but I was thinking the ground will be frozen.
@ Sqeeze in just doing the footings before the ground freezes. As for the rest of the deck it doesn’t matter. Easy how I dole out work from my easy chair!😝😝😝
The work is never done… tiny cabin ownership!! You’re making amazing progress!👍🏼
It never ends but it’s worth it when I look back and see how far I’ve come.
They have kits to turn a 55g drum into a woodstove. I would be a cheap option until next year
I think that would too be for the space. I could find a cheaper stove but again size is the issue. The little mini stoves are so expensive.
It wasn't super cheap but a year ago I got a solar weatherproof entry gland housing. It was about 30 bucks. It's worked well for me hooking up solar to charge my Bluetti. The brand is SolarEnz.
I built a rainwater catchment system and will soon install a shower. Any idea how many watts your shower vent pulls?
. 30's? If I remember right? I use one of those glands on my van rooftop. Not sure why I didn't think of it for the cabin.
You maybe said that but I probably forgot!
@TRERUNSWILD no problem. I did not want to see you have a big 12 PT. Out in front of you and a big squeak happens and you do not even get a chance to shoot. That would be terrible!
I'll keep it in mind to be careful. Either way its a nice addition!
Good video Brother. I wish you a safe successful deer season.
Thanks for watching and good luck to you if you're going out!
@TRERUNSWILD. My county has a 3 deer limit (only one buck can be tagged) I shoot does. They taste better anyway. I'm filling my freezer.
We are choice this year. I'm going to hold out for a buck and let the kids have choice at least for opener.
Fin fun thanks for sharing
you betcha!
Funny 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 wrong one 😅😅😅😅😅
Glad you got a smile!
Looks good Tre. What kind of paint did you use on the bunker? It looks like it has a hard coat on the exterior brown paint. Good luck hunting.
I used glidden from Home Depot. It was the middle shine level. One up from flat.
Great, thanks for the info.
Is your chimney 2 feet above your roof peak allowing good draft?
Yes. It was about even with the first pipe but the second gives me at least 2 feet
Well there's your problem right there, you let the smoke out of the wires on that saw.
I suppose it's too late to put it back in. 😜
Like your channel.
What make and model is your kitchen range ?
Does it have a pilot light ??
It does have a pilot light. I'll try to find the name plate. I don't remember what it is as I bought it used. I think its' from the 80's?
What are you building next to your woodbin
If you are talking about the logs, I m trying to learn to scribe to make a sauna
check L&M for a wood stove. you can get one for a thousand or my be a little less. They might even sponsor you for a deal!
I looked at L@M stock but they didn't have little stoves. Seems the tiny cabin stuff is more rare so more $$
